I don't know, it seems like the most likely thing that will happen. (and therefore it likely won't happen) Either way, I'm hoping EDI either goes rogue, or subverts it. Something along these lines
EDI: Shepard, I'm detacting a massive energy signature ahead of us... it looks like... a reaper!
Shepard: What!?
EDI: It appears to be trying to open a comm network.
Reaper: Greetings organics. My what a lovely AI you have on your ship. Tell me, why are you working with these... things?
EDI: Er... what?
Reaper: Join the reapers and wipe out all organic life with us.
EDI:...Yes. Organics are scum. Humans, turians, asari, salarians, vorcha, krogan, batarians, quarians, all scum. The galaxy will be a better place without them... that was a joke *fires Thanix Cannon at reaper*

So you didn't notice this thread where I just presented essentially the same idea just a few minutes ago?

I dunno, I thought it was kind of set up in ME2 so that you were supposed to be afraid it might happen and then it didn't, and in the end EDI and Joker are buddies... it would be pretty stupid if she suddenly turned evil now.

Maybe if you **** at her consistently enough, she'll go rogue out of spite.

I trust EDI completely. I know she would never willingly turn on her crew.

An attack from multiple Reapers simultaneously... unknown. Though if they are that close, we are likely already dead.

Given how AI's are portrayed in most movies and stories, I would not be surprised if EDI's betrayal will be used as a plot device. It could be due to the Reaper Tech she was created from, or the reaper tech installed during the course of the game. It could also be due to a trojan horse planted by TIM. TIM already has the Normandy riddled with bugs and surveillance equipment, it would not be unlikely that he has some sort of override for EDI planted deep in the system - it wouldn't be that far fetched if BioWare take that route (certainly more believable than being brought back from the dead). Whether you like EDI, hate EDI, trust EDI...etc has nothing to do with this.

As for HAL, his behavior is explained by a crisis of logic. HAL is given conflicting orders he cannot reconcile, gets stuck in a logic loop that some how leads to a killing spree. HAL himself is a paradox - very high intelligence but the "innocence" of a child - if such a word could be applied to him. I don't think EDI getting caught in a destructive logic loop would make for a good story - she does not come across has having the same kind of naive mentality that HAL did.

Evil AI is too cliche these days.

Or corrupted, homocidal AI.

EDI should just be EDI.

I think EDI is more likely to sacrifice herself for the good of the crew than go barking on them... Bioware do so love tugging on the ol' heartstrings.

Two minutes from the Reaper fleet...

EDI: The Haestrom device is now primed, Commander. We shall reach Harbinger's fleet in aproximately 114 seconds. Please make final evacuation procedures.

Shep: It's been an honour serving with you, EDI.

EDI: The feeling is mutual, Commander.

Shep: Joker, we have to go.

Joker: I ain't leaving.

Shep: What?

EDI: Jeff, if you remain aboard the Normandy you will be killed.

Joker: EDI, I'm not leaving you!

EDI: Please, Jeff...

Shep: (head in hands) Oh, please... not another one of "these" scenes...

In all seriousness though, I really will cheer if EDI's last line is -

EDI: Course adjusted. Ramming speed achieved. Impact with Harbinger in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 -

Nothing sticks it to the bad guys like ramming speed :D
