Is it possible to change your class when you import your character from ME1?  I have a friend who wants to play ME2 and import his character but he played ME1 using a Vanguard.  I was the one who recommended he play ME1 as a Vanguard because I thought it was a fun class.   But I told him to play ME2 using either a Sentinel, Engineer, or Adept because it will be a much better experience for him.   I just know he will not like the Vanguard for ME2.

Yep you can change your class and appearance to anything you want when you import. I've imported the same character at least 10 times and created one of each class from him.

On another note, why wouldn't he like the Vanguard? It has a high-ish learning curve, but it's easily the most fun class in the game. Send him to the sticky at the top of this forum and he won't have much trouble after reading it, especially if starting off on a difficulty lower than Insanity.

Either way, the answer to your question is yes, you can change your class.

OMG. Awesome.  He's gonna love this game.

I'm gonna recommend anything but the Vanguard.

Nope.  He will not like the Vanguard.  I did it on Veteran before the sticky stuck and it was extremely frustrating.   I played it as a gimped adept.   And if it hadn't been for Biowares awesome ability to tell a kick ass space opera story, I'd have been forever turned off from the ME universe.   I've played ME2 3 times.  And I still find the Vanguard frustrating.   We are folks, well into our 30's.   We've been playing games since the Atarii days.   So we know what we like and dislike.  Also, it's unlikely he'll play the game more than once, so I gotta find a class that suits our playstyles.

But thanks for the info!

Well, playing as a gimped Adept is what I did the first time and it was incredibly frustrating for me as well. Once I read that guide and learned how to Charge better it became the most fun I've ever had in a SP game.

But to each their own, I'm glad I could help.

Also, gibbed's save editor can be used to create a ME1 character import with custom decisions (wrex alive/dead, anderson/udina councilor etc) without replaying ME1 if you don't want to, it's also pretty user friendly.
google gibbed save editor mass effect 2 if you're interested.
Hope that helps, and that your friend enjoys himself :)

I miss my pc.  :( We're playing on the xbox.  But yes, that's exactly why he wants to import from ME1 so that he can see how or if his decisions have an impact.  I played ME1 on the pc then did ME2 for the xbox.  So I'm not sure if imports work across platforms.   He's played ME1 on the xbox so he shouldnt have a problem with his import.
