3rd. Duncans whole body was taken so they could carefully extract his beard for the Archdemon. They didnt think to remove and discard the robe.
Whoa. A beard-toupee? A beard-toupee of Awesomeness? Surely, the powers granted at first attachement would be overwhelming. Too jaw-tacular. I'd probably knock you over a few times, knowing that the aformentioned bad-guy is not the original owner.
Yes, I AM suggesting that the beard is independently intelligent.

Personally I don't think the player should ever have been allowed to return to Ostagar. It was just not feasible that each and every individual Darkspawn that looted you-know-whose armour would remain there.
Ostagar lost its long-term impact when the developers allowed the player to return, and even exact revenge on the "squeeze" that killed you-know-who. It's all too contrived for my liking.
Edited to remove spoilers.

The beard is independently intelligent. When the Archdemon exploded so did the beard. It mutated dog into the Architect by giving dog its intelligence and Grey Warden Taint. Thats why dog isnt a character anymore.Elastic Otter wrote...

Except Duncan never became a character that was ever remarkable or worth caring about. We expected more of him before DA came out because we saw so much of him in the marketing. Bioware shoots themselves in the foot with these tactics.Axis Swordarm wrote...
He's dead.
Good characters dying is what generates drama and in turn generates good stories.
If he popped back up it would negate much of the atmosphere in Origins, he got closure stabbing to death an Ogre and you got closure killing it all over again in RTO.
Bioware seems to be picking up an awful habit of hyping up characters before release, making them look to be key to the story, and then either killing them off within the first few hours of the game or terribly underutilizing them.
Bioware even had the idiocy to present and announce the soldier-girl (forgot her name) as normal companion on the official site along with the likes of Anders and Velanna when they were just going to kill her off in the beginning! Misleading much?
yeah exactly, the guy's narration in that game from beginning to end, is also one of the reasons why I thought he was alive, as if he still existed telling the tale of the wardens, and you think wait, didn't he die in the battle, so how is it possible he narrate in the end of the game lol. If hes not supposed to be a major character of the game, they should of done him what they did in the beginning of Mass Effect. Show me the body, so we know hes dead, and we can shut up about it lol, but bioware, well had to be..... interseting I guess.

For it never SHOWED his death... just a big one charging at Duncan.. and they showed the kings grosom death, so why not show duncans... and no body of duncan is found... And it's only what they lead you to believe is that he died.. where's the body? where's the movie of his death?
And if I read right... his beard was found.. but... anyone could loose their beard... and If i recall right, there's this one lost new npc player from the fade that is a grey warden but he can't remember thing about his past... and his hair is just barely at stubs (his beard too)... I forget what his name is on the bioware's awakening site... but... My mind is still giving me hope on this... lol

It seems strange to 'declare' Duncan dead in a random thread on a forum, when all throughout the game its a big mystery as to whether he's alive or not, and its pretty much implied that he's probably still alive. You'd think if he was going to end up dead they'd at least make it some kind of shocking revelation in one of the expansions/sequels. Very strange comment indeed.
See, I find it just the opposite. It seemed much too cheesy an idea to bring him back. The second we faded to white I knew he was gone and wasn't coming back. Imagine my surprise when I come online and people actually think he's going to return.
This isn't meant to be a soap opera. Sometimes well-liked people die and they don't come back.

All we are asking of Bioware is to create a DLC where we can find his body and armor. Thats it. It would not take too long to make and Bioware would benefit from the money earned from a DLC with Duncan
