My original playthrough was as a Dwarf Noble, and I loved the story and grew quite attached to my character. Then just for kicks, I tried out the Dwarf Commoner. I was enjoying the commoner playthrough, but then something awful happened that caused me to stand up from my chair and begin passionately yelling at the computer screen. As a Dwarf Commoner, when you get conscripted as a warden, Duncan awards you with a mace belonging to a dwarf warden who was once a member of House Aeducan. I felt betrayed. As a dwarf noble I didn't get a damn mace, and I was IN House Aeducan. That dwarf warden was member of my family and Duncan didn't think, "Hmm... maybe he might like to have a family artifact that ties him to the Wardens. Afterall, I am just carrying the thing around." but he'll just hand the mace over to some random dwarf commoner dude, who more than likely treats it like vendor trash. Consequently, whenever Duncan is mentioned I feel nothing but contempt. I am glad he is dead. I hope it hurt like hell and I hope I never see that bastard again.
This read made me lol! (

) Thanks for sharing. Favorite post of the day so far Grand Moff Darth Beaver!
Look at it this way, Duncan may not be a fan of dwarven nobles... you know thinking "look at this entitled little runt, *sigh* he don't need any additional help from me." vs. "Oh, the poor dwarf commoner, this guy may have had it rough. I know how to ruffle them nobles feathers, give this commoner a noble house mace and let him proof his worth to be acknowledged as a member of the warrior caste or even a paragon!"
My first char (that knocked up Morrigan rather than die) became attached to Duncan like Ali, so much so I jumped for joy when I saw a user created mod that gave his armor and his sword. To keep it in story I figured my noble char looked up to him and was able to reclaim the armor during his return to Ostagar.
LOL! But that sensation of betrayal = rpg gold. I am thinking that for my next full playthrough I'm going to try being a dwarf. (once done with Awakening with 1st char/ and finish second full playthrough with my second char a mage)
Eventually I'll try an elf, but they are just too... [IMHO] pissy and prissy for me (which is understandable given what they've been through, but wow)
