i'm sure they have something planned.

For Duncan? There is nothing planned.

Because he is dead.

Like I said, the only way he could possibly be used is in something that takes place in the past.

Why the no-love? Why harsh our squee? Can't we keep hope alive without that ice cold splash of reality? Don't you know that delusion is an essential ingredient of fandom? The Man should never take away the hope and delusions of the masses (ref. J.Whedon for appropriate behavior towards delusional fans).

Bad Bioware is Bad. Keep hope ALIVE.

Duncan's beard was clearly used in the dark ritual.

In a few years, you'll be certain to hear of a reborn old god with an amazing beard that could make any dwarf jealous.

They can rebuild Duncan.  They have the technology.  They have the capability to build the world's first Golem Grey Warden.  Duncan can be that Golem.  They can make him better than he was before.  Better, stronger, faster.  And bigger.  Much bigger.

David, how can you let alistair not honor duncans death? your favour character you said (alistair) and yet you dont want him to honor duncans death

Alistair honored Duncan's death plenty. He grieved over him like a father. He just doesn't do it in Return to Ostagar -- perhaps if he'd found his body, he would have, I suppose. But he didn't. I didn't write Return to Ostagar, however, so I can't really comment on their decisions.

I mean come on we got to honor the kings death in return to ostigar, But not duncan? fair enough hes dead then as you are his writer, But at least let us honor his death

You can honor his death all you like.

Also not every player comes on the forums, So alot of people dont know that you declared duncan dead.

I didn't declare anything. He died at the beginning of Origins. It's part of the tragedy. Squeezing your eyes shut and clicking your heels together isn't going to make that un-happen.

its very unprofessional to leave such a loophole in this very well written lore game.

Loophole? I don't think that word means what you think it means.

We only have your word duncan is dead but alot of the evidense in-game suggests he alive (from RTo)

You mean... the evidence which is not there? The lack of evidence being the evidence you are speaking of?

It's flattering that you're so attached to a character I made, but at the same time a little disturbing. I suggest you accept that Duncan is dead. Sorry to break it to you, man.

Duncan was a hero figure..to some of us....I don't get how that would be disturbing.  (here's where I disagree with you :P)

If only we had his beard to honor... on a separate note, I think that it is really great of you, David Gaider, to actually take the time to reply to these posts, and give us your opinion.

"Duncan's Beard" would make for a great tavern or band or village name.

To be fair, David, it has been four months of conspiracy theories flying around that were never addressed.

Sure, you can drop in to be sarcastic, but you never confirmed or denied his status until a few days ago when you threw it out there in a "sad face" post where people were bagging Awakening pre-release...

If people are reacting with suprise, it is probably due to this.

I'm sorry... are we supposed to run around and address every conspiracy theory that comes down the pipe? The lack of a denial means it must be true?

Come on. I don't generally read threads that don't look like I might have something to say on the topic.

I have no idea how you are handling the reaction to this non-functional expansion.

Which non-functional expansion? The one that many people are playing right now?

that what i assumed he died it sorta the heart breaking moment of the game that gives the PC a reason to defeat the darkspawn IMO.

my point by "they have something planned"
was even though his dead there is still lore and pre DA:O books he could be part of.

though seeing him or his body in any event after DA:O would sorta be a "wtf" moment.

Psssst... I have the answers, only I know the truth, listen, listen to me, and be enlightened. They tried to hide it oh yes they did, but I see past physical events, visual illusions, and explicitly stated canon by the deceivers, yes I do! I knows it, I does. The only plausible explanation the this web of intrigue crafted by the deceivers themselves is that Duncan is the Maker! Search your feelings, you know this to be true. His body was not found, and his death was an ambiguous truth. But Gaider, the slimy old weasel, may Duncan show mercy upon his sinful soul, wants us to believe our Maker has passed on. Who does he think he is anyway, the man that created Thedas? Ha! Duncan obviously did that too (btw I am his prophet so donate $600 to the temple of Duncan, paypal = morriganhavemybabies237)

...

No. I don't think you need to go around denying every rumor.

This was a rather prevalent one, however.

My point was that you should not really be suprised at peoples mistaken impression after the issue festered for months.

And by non-functional expansion I mean that bugged up piece of software called "Awakening"  Image IPB

Sorry - but look at the boards for Gawd's sake.

If the expansion is "bugged up" ..from the looks of things it may be the console owners who are having the most issues..personally I have had one bug and one crash to desktop..(on pc) and the rest has been fine. I am 12 hours into my expac, and still have LOTS to do..I am in no hurry ..to "beat da game" :D

Feraele, I've had glitchy cutscenes and two crashes to desktop (also on PC). I'm not using those as reasons to like or dislike Awakening but it's not just the consoles.

Before Gaider confirmed, Duncan could have quite likely been alive...

The scenes and such concerning him and his "death" were all quite ambiguous, up to and including the Dev's open statements about Duncan when discussing RtO ("Fight the Ogre that killed the King and potentially your mentor..") and the lack of a body or anything to confirm his death.

Until now, the proponents of the "Duncan isn't dead" theory believed that Duncan's death was deliberately made ambiguous, which, unlike some video game theories, was a good conclusion, one that I subscribed to for a while after realizing Duncan's body wasn't in RtO, you don't see him actually die...

My original playthrough was as a Dwarf Noble, and I loved the story and grew quite attached to my character. Then just for kicks, I tried out the Dwarf Commoner. I was enjoying the commoner playthrough, but then something awful happened that caused me to stand up from my chair and begin passionately yelling at the computer screen. As a Dwarf Commoner, when you get conscripted as a warden, Duncan awards you with a mace belonging to a dwarf warden who was once a member of House Aeducan. I felt betrayed. As a dwarf noble I didn't get a damn mace, and I was IN House Aeducan. That dwarf warden was member of my family and Duncan didn't think, "Hmm... maybe he might like to have a family artifact that ties him to the Wardens. Afterall, I am just carrying the thing around." but he'll just hand the mace over to some random dwarf commoner dude, who more than likely treats it like vendor trash. Consequently, whenever Duncan is mentioned I feel nothing but contempt. I am glad he is dead. I hope it hurt like hell and I hope I never see that bastard again.

This read made me lol! (^_^ ) Thanks for sharing. Favorite post of the day so far Grand Moff Darth Beaver!

Look at it this way, Duncan may not be a fan of dwarven nobles... you know thinking "look at this entitled little runt, *sigh* he don't need any additional help from me." vs. "Oh, the poor dwarf commoner, this guy may have had it rough. I know how to ruffle them nobles feathers, give this commoner a noble house mace and let him proof his worth to be acknowledged as a member of the warrior caste or even a paragon!"

My first char (that knocked up Morrigan rather than die) became attached to Duncan like Ali, so much so I jumped for joy when I saw a user created mod that gave his armor and his sword. To keep it in story I figured my noble char looked up to him and was able to reclaim the armor during his return to Ostagar.

LOL! But that sensation of betrayal = rpg gold. I am thinking that for my next full playthrough I'm going to try being a dwarf.  (once done with Awakening with 1st char/ and finish second full playthrough with my second char a mage)

Eventually I'll try an elf, but they are just too... [IMHO] pissy and prissy for me (which is understandable given what they've been through, but wow)
