Haha I find it extremely ironic how David Gaider is calling some people "obsessed" with his character. I mean, Mr. Gaider, I can understand your frustration, but you really should be quite happy that people are so attached to Duncan, and you can't really blame them, I mean, that whole scene with him and the darkspawn screamed ambiguity. I think that people had every right to believe that Duncan still lived. But honestly, bashing the people who take the time to write on these boards to even discuss your game is something you should be grateful for, and I'm not saying your not, I'm just saying that these people aren't conjuring up crazy ideas and what-not. I too think you guys slightly dropped the ball on Duncan, I mean, he was one of the coolest guys in the game. And I'm not trying to come off as disrespectful or anything, I know people were throwing insults at you, but you ARE the developer, you don't need to prove your worth in these posts.

This is why I hate the overuse of celebrity VA; they're far to expensive to employ for long. Thus making for mostly short-lived and ultimately half-assed characters. The fact that they're hyped so much before release only makes it worse.

The story of Duncan is just another example of this.

Alot of fans will buy Duncan DLC in a shot because he was one of the best characters in the game imo and his death was not certain even more so because his body wasnt in RTo DL, As for the people who werent fans of him, you would get his cool looking armor/robes at the end of the dlc.

Its clear there is room for duncan to come back, either alive or as a darkspawn or a body. To just write him off as dead with no closure is such a deservice to such a great well written character.

He's dead.

Good characters dying is what generates drama and in turn generates good stories.

If he popped back up it would negate much of the atmosphere in Origins, he got closure stabbing to death an Ogre and you got closure killing it all over again in RTO.

No, Duncan is clearly what we have all identified as Bigfoot.
I mean, look at THAT beard!

Except Duncan never became a character that was ever remarkable or worth caring about. We expected more of him before DA came out because we saw so much of him in the marketing. Bioware shoots themselves in the foot with these tactics.

Bioware seems to be picking up an awful habit of hyping up characters before release, making them look to be key to the story, and then either killing them off within the first few hours of the game or terribly underutilizing them.

Bioware even had the idiocy to present and announce the soldier-girl (forgot her name) as normal companion on the official site along with the likes of Anders and Velanna when they were just going to kill her off in the beginning! Misleading much?

Also, the fact that such a prominent character like Duncan died so early in the game felt....IDK, kind of wrong in a certain aspect.

Yes I understand that important characters dying early on in the game is suspenseful, sets the tone, is great for plot, etc. But the fact remains that if you replay Origins, and actually think about how long Duncan lives during the game, its actually extremely short, like too short. For such a great character, Bioware should have stretched out his role just a bit. It's almost laughable. And yeah, I agree that from a marketing standpoint, they really did shoot themselves in the foot.

On another note, I suggest all of you play Mass Efffect 2 = 100 percent awesomeness.

My two cents - Duncan's (permanent) death made the Battle at Ostagar all the more epic.

You shouldn't use words if you have no idea what they mean.

I mean, that whole scene with him and the darkspawn screamed ambiguity. I think that people had every right to believe that Duncan still lived.

It's been implied that the RTO team didn't really work with Gaider on continuity.

But honestly, bashing the people who take the time to write on these boards to even discuss your game is something you should be grateful for, and I'm not saying your not, I'm just saying that these people aren't conjuring up crazy ideas and what-not.

Have you even read half the threads on this forum? Half the users are threatening the Bio Dev's families, and the other half are telling them that they know the game better than the people that made it. Don't even get me started on the Tali Fans.

you don't need to prove your worth in these posts.

That's not what he's doing.

If David Gaider wanted to write duncan off as dead, Then his body should of been in RTo. Its just lazy otherwise. and a diservice to all fans of the character.

Hey, get over it guys! It was obvious from the scene that Duncan died in Ostagar. Yes, he was cool. Yes, he was a sort of mentor for the Warden and Alistair. Yes, he had an epic beard. But he is dead, ok? Just let him rest, and continue fighting darkspawn!

Did anyone notice there were hardly any human bodies at RtO? Any guess why?

Darkspawn EAT humans, or drag live ones down to their tunnels. Duncan is in a darkspawn belly. Cailan should have been too really. It made no sense for him to be strung up like that.

I can't believe people are wondering why there is no body. Duh.

hmm i had an interesting idea just now how about when and if they ever release DA 3 assuming one comes out this one will focus before DA1 so the timeline would be perfect get to play as duncan now that would be nice (never going to happen). But if this did happen we would see things before DA1 then DA1 and then the expansion and the story continues on as normal. At least thats what i think they should do

Considering prequels are "in" now days, I wouldn't discount it, also getting to see the man Maric in the flesh and his bro-mance with Loghain would be interseting.

Remember finding the King's armor?  it wasn't laying about on the ground either, you had to take it mostly off the still steaming dead bodies of various darkspawn you killed, odds are Duncans amor was either carried off by darkspawn after the feast, or scavengers looted it for the market in "slightly used, good as new, market".

He was strung up like that because to the darkspawn he is the leader of the humans they're feasting on and they wanted to hang him there as a trophy and to make a point.

And to the OP, look man I can understand that you have grown attached to Duncan's character but I cannot understand how you still aren't willing to accept that he is dead, the expnasion has been made, he is not in it, and even his writer stated he is gone. I will miss him too, but seriously I dont wanna say this, but its just a game man.

I do however share your disappointment in not finding, Duncan's armor which I think is the best looking armor in the game, especially for a rogue character. I would love to see more armor like that - armored robes, like templar armor.
