Actually, high school does affect your post-high school life, probably more than anything.

Seriously, I belong to an organization that meets every-week, and I'm one of the few teenagers there.  Most of the people there are in their 20s.  And do you know what they always talk about?  That's right, they talk about high school and what they did in high school, who they dated, who they hung out with, etc.

I'm in my 20s and I don't often, if at all, talk about high school, and haven't found anybody else to, either.  It just doesn't come up. Which is good, because to be honest I'd be a little put off by people I know constantly prattling on about who they dated or hung out with at high school.  Reminiscing is one thing, but 'always' talking about high school is quite another.  It sounds to me as if you've encountered a group of people whose lives have not become any more interesting since they left high school.  This doesn't actually mean that it therefore 'affects your post-highschool life' - it just means the people at your organization are juvenile and boring. :P

I'm in high-school and I don't talk about high-school. My friends and I pretty much apply the whole "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" philosophy to it. When we get together, we find it way more pertinent to talk about less catty BS. I suppose being a senior helps. We've made it through, and we see the light. Posted Image

BS. High School was probably the worst part of my life so far. I don´t like to talk about those times and what I did back then because it stenches like rotten on a huge number of levels.

I have almost no contact with any of my former mates from those days I do not miss any of those excrements of births.

What Inorial said, basically.

High school really wasn't bad for me, exactly, but I hated it because I like being academically engaged. My years in high school were probably some of the most counter-educational years of my life. Hell, I hated it so much I gave up on trying near the end, and as a result almost flunked out. True story, that.

Socially, people liked me, and I generally didn't mind them, but I never had any really close friends in high school. I'm glad to be rid of it, personally, but I understand that some people like it, and I say good for them, making the most of what is often a bad situation.

High School? What is Highschool? Oh, you probably mean those 4 years lost between elementary school and university... Nothing special about them. I think I did much more in 3 months of university than in 4 years of high school. I don't miss it one bit.

Actually, it doesn't.  The things that are going to be a good indication of how your life turns out will most likely be the choices you make.

Gotta agree with Inorial on this one. If all they can find to talk about after several years is what they did in high school, then their lives must be terribly dull. Not that these people strike me as riveting conversationalists. With the sheer volume of social, political, and philosophical topics out there... not to mention the latest pop culture trends and celebrity shenanigans, the best subject they can come up with is high school? Really? For shame. -_-

Yeah, it sounds like the people in your 'group' are a bunch of needy retards. In college almost nobody talked abut their highschool days unless it was to relate a funny story, after college highschool is pretty much forgotten (unless you are one of those needy jock types that isn't aware it is over)

It might affect YOUR life, but I can tell you that it had almost no impact on mine, and pretty much everyone else here. But hey, if that's what you want for your life, more power to you.

To the OP: Only in their twenties, you say? Give your circle of friends time (say, about 20 more years) and you'll bet that they'll be talking about other priorities in life.

Also, have you considered that perhaps your friends might be attempting to communicate with you and find stuff to talk about at "your" level, and the easiest subject matter is the shared experience of high school? Try changing the conversation to other topics such as world politics, the economy, books and movies, etc and see what happens. :)

That's sad. I never talk about highschool. It was pointless except for a few fun bits and the fact that a few great teachers got me on track to go to college. Otherwise it was a waste of time and most of the kids there were wastes of space.
