Whether it 'makes sense' or not I was really looking forward to having a female tank without playing that role myself. Tanks being male gets old, damn it! There are two mages too, BW should have killed off one of them and not Mhairi. >/

Why? You exactly -shouldn't- be able to alter it. I tried at first, I had her approval up at 30 through gifts I had carried over, I tried raising her will power and her constitution, nothing worked. And it hit me exactly as that. People don't survive the joining, the player needs to understand that, not get pissy Mhairi dies. She and every other person willing to become a Grey Warden is literally dooming themself to a death sentance. Whether immediately or just a bit further down the road, when The Calling hits. I'm actually glad from an observers standpoint they did it, and I wish they made everyone possibly die from the Joining. I only wish the player could be the one to actually perform the ceremony like Duncan did, to understand you're possibly killing these people for the greater good.
Don't think you see the point, you don't hype up a new party member for a month, to then find out that its nothing but a repeat of jory/davath, its cheap, and takes player freedom, in all bioware games, you have the choice who lives and who dies, thats what sets bioware rpg apart from the yes crowd.
If she was like jory/davath, then shouldn't she not lvl, not get approvel, or not be able to give gifts, it a very cheap shock tactic and deja va of what happens in origins, doesn't make for a good story.

I think part of why people are getting pissy is because they gave her a full video, only to kill her off half an hour in, apparently. that, and she's the only female warrior. I wasn't on top of the Origins trailers or anything, did Daveth / Jory get videos?
I can understand that not everyone survives the Joining (duh), but as I said, people are mostly pissed because they hyped her up as a near full expansion kinda companion, not a girl Jory. EDIT: Noir more or less beat me to it.
You don't perform the Joining, either? gah, maybe I will regret buying this.

the cost of a Silent protagonist =( It would be a pretty ****ty ceremony if you didn't get to hear a badass voice entoning the Grey Warden motto.

Don't remember them getting devs talking about them, or video, and char profiles of them for month in da:o or any bioware game to date, in jade empire 1 of your party members dies but halfway during the game, saving your life.
If it was random who dies in a joning, it would make sence, from a replay point of view, killing the same member takes a great deal away from the story.

They wanted us to feel how is rly to be in charge of ritual joining , pretty much how Duncan feelt .
And most logical option is that any gray warden leader would pick any comptentent and skilled person for joining since they have lack of ppl and she volunteered
And now i got party full of males, looks pretty gay if you ask me and desperatly awaiting on part to comme accros Velana to recruit her.
At least Anora appearing in my game was nice since i dont like Alistair.

Its annoying and very frustrating, that at last a female gets a roll which is normaly a male roll as a warrior tank in a rpg, to then kill her off so soon, if bioware wants to use that sort of cliched view of woman, which normaly they don't, then its like going back to the 1980/90s of game storys.
Wtb my Morrigan back and her awesomenes .

I know. G-d forbid we depict (physically) strong women in a role usually taken by men. Morrigan is strong-willed, but she's still a squishy mage. Leliana is in the same squishy boat, and she's more mentally strong methinks. and, well, wynne is your healer, you don't exactly put clerics 5 feet from the boss if you can avoid it.
gah.
