Theorectically speaking though(Devil's Advocate in me), Thedas is supposed to be a very dark world, where horrible things happen. Look at the City Elf origin to get my point, or the fact that women get dragged away by Darkspawn to become Broodmothers. The reality of our world's past is, Women weren't really warriors because of such problems, and it's logical Thedas would have the same problems.

It's as if they promoted Okeer in Mass Effect 2, just to kill him off. Instead, they promoted Grunt directly.
If you are going to promote someone on the same level as regular companions, there darn well better a good reason for it.

Were her death an alternative to say, Oghren's, that would have been fine. A warrior for a warrior seems reasonable. But for for an avertised companion to suffer an undisputed death less than an hour into the game is cheap and tasteless.

Seems like a good decision. Now I can finally have a party of Anders, Justice and Nathaniel Howe, three human male characters, just like I wanted from the beginning, and not worry that I missed anything. Non-human NPCs will stay in camp or keep or wherever.
You realize Justice isn't human, right? He is a spirit trapped in a human's body, one that is dead and rotting at that. If you wanted an all-human party, Mhairi was your only option.

This is game-breaking for me too, Noir. Party composition was of great significance behind my decision to purchase Awakening despite noted shortcomings. Without Mhairi that puts an unrepairable dent in my motivation. She was a significant and needed alternative to the drunken dwarf and the rotting corpse. Obviously, that's my opinion, but my sentiments were no less developed by the misleading advertising of her as a party companion.

Yeah i totally agree.
While I think it's important for a charatcer to die through the joining.. cause It would be silly if one didn't.. a Loghain/Alistair situation would have been nice.

So far, Sigrun looks like the only ally I'll like. Besides Ander's occassional jokes.
Mhairi was going to be like my best friend. We'd go get ice cream, kill darkspawn, and avenge Roland by killing the skeletor. Turns out Skeletor dies early, and Mhairi drops dead afterwards too, DLC equipment doesn't really carry over, and romances don't exist, and the old party members make cameos at best, besides...disgusting putrid Oghren.

Anyway, really really disapointed that they killed her off right in the first half-hour with seemingly no way to alter it. I was under the assumption that we would be able to pick who to put through the joining and at least have some sort of hand to seeing them make it or not. I feel betrayed that this isnt the way it is. Mhairi was a great character for the half hour I had her. A real shame that theres nothing anyone can do to save her.
Its simply upsetting.

C*ck teases. I want my party back, damn it.
EDIT: Wtf... now I'm worrying about the actual sequel and thinking if any of my favorites return, they will die horribly less than half way through. >:[

Yeah, but that's beside the point honestly.
Whether it 'makes sense' or not I was really looking forward to having a female tank without playing that role myself. Tanks being male gets old, damn it! There are two mages too, BW should have killed off one of them and not Mhairi. >/
That's because women are more squishy. As Shale would say.

Uh, I'm pretty sure all of the character trailers are a minute-ish.
Yep, they are. That's pretty much what the outrage is about, they hyped a character we would only play for 30 minutes, with NO option to save them.

Not gamebreaking in the least for me, but she seemed quite likable, so it's just sad. At least I know Ser Cauthrien is still alive in all my playthroughs, couldn't let myself kill her, Summersword be damned! Could always use toolkit or console if I really wanted it...

It's not as if we don't get the the whole "ohhh somebody must die!". We got that already at the beginning of Origins during every damn playthrough with Jory and Daveth. We were expecting more from Mhairi, and reasonably so. This is a deliberate ****with. And I don't want to hear "well if a person just doesn't have the resistance it can't be changed", I make my rebuttle case with the instance where you meet Sten. If you force the key from the Mother, he mentions that you should have papers if you lie and say she gave permission. However, if she really DID give permission, he never asks even though he has no knowledge of such. Is it not his personality to do so? Things changed depending on the situation.
Anyhow, this is the end of my rants. I'll probably still get the game when the price drops. Funnily enough I waded through any other disappointing thing I heard, but this threw me over the edge.
