Read my post again. I was never pretending to agree with you in any way, shape or form. Learn about sarcasm, then come back and speak to me again. People who throw phrases and diagnoses around without knowing their proper meaning are not people I wish to communicate with.

End of line.

I was looking foward to Mhairi, but honestly I think the fact they just kill her off is seven-shades of awesome.

Bioware took the one character concept people were clamering the most for, hyped her up, and then gave her a pointless totally suck death, why? Because that's what it means to be in a dark fantasy world, no matter how much you want something, you just might not get it and I think the fact they had us make an emotional connection to her in the first place was awesome. The whole thing really reinforces that being the Grey Warden Commander actually sucks pretty bad, despite the hype and the hero worship.

I wouldn't really call killing the token female in the first hour of gameplay proof of Dark Fantasy.

But that's just me.

Yeah, I just would have loved to see how a female warrior actually played out throughout a game. Couldn't they have made two of them? :)

Maybe I'll just re-play Metroid for a while. Go Samus.

I think it is, not because she was some "token female", but rather because she was one NPC people really wanted, thats what makes it dark. If they had given you the option of who dies then it would have sucked: most people would just pick their least favorite character, and end up feeling like they came up a head as opposed to actually losing something.

Can't you just kill off companions anyway? Like in DA:O? I wouldn't know, I'm not planning on getting the xpac anytime soon.

Besides, it could also be called 'bait and switch'. And you know, people are funny. If they expect something new and exiting, and it's pulled out from under them, they tend to get upset. There are other ways do darken this dark fantasy without disappointing people by using a cheap cliche.

What to you think will happen now? Unspoiled players will get their little 'shock', but in subsequent play-throughs, the warrior woman will be just ignored. Those who got spoiled (by accident or on purpose) will do so even in their first play-through.

Well in all fairness, quite alot of people did see this coming story wise, how Mhairi story would end (but didn't want to belive it) all i can say is, it's a expansion, almost meaningless and optional.

Yes, i will be one of the many for quite awhile who really didn't like this, but i'm giving bioware a 2nd chance with this for DA 2.

But as it's been said in this thread, what would have been better is random joining death, to make it more surpising, as it is now, it's what it is, and number of people don't like it.

I'm over it now.

No, but potential is wasted. The warrior had great potential. She will matter only once, and only to those who have no idea what will happen. This game is touted for it's replay value, by fans and devs/producers alike. The unique warrior has zero appeal after the first time around.

I still find the Deep Roads quite disturbing. I still grind my teeth when my PC and her gang approach the broodmother. Hespith's poem still makes my skin crawl. After quite a few times around. Now that's dark and disturbing fantasy. Not a unique warrior who will surprise people once, and then lingers around, mostly ignored until it's time for her to die.

I agree with Noir. A random death, now that would be continually surprising/shocking. I couldn't even begin to know how that could be scripted through a gc script, but it would definitely not be as boring.

Random death would be fun, but hey, if someone had to die it could be a midget, sorry Oggie.

I'm not sure how to respond to those that are dissing the game because of someone who doesn't make it. And I don't think I will just to be safe lol. The only thing I've got to say is play it, try it, your going to be in for some surprises. I've already found 2 n I'm really eager to see if there's going to be more. Lets put it this way a some of your choices from DAO will play a factor in this game. I'm not putting in spoilers because not everyone's played yet or is going to but so far I'm enjoying this big time.

Personally she looked interesting from the ads. Right now I just finished the sidequests in Amaranthine and I'm not missing her as much. I was expecting all three to survive the joining initially. Frankly didn't expect the death. Great surprise - I didn't expect the immediate follow-up squaddie Nathaniel to be as big a surprise.

Overall, it really doesn't detract from the game. I was intrigued by Legion in ME2 - but we all know ads are meant to push people to purchase the thing. What matters is when you get the game and run it.

As for having a female warrior as a squaddie? I'm cool and open to it. So far though, I'm still in the early development of each NPC. I'd already forgotten about her when I started seeing this thread. Although to be honest, I looked to see if there was a way to keep her alive.

Im glad I did this, sure I am spoiling the game, but damn im not buying this, it sounds terrible so far, seriously no way to save her WTF why give her a trailer then, why not kill Howe, no one wants him to live (he better die in this otherwise this is total BS killing of a good character and keeping a one who I hate alive).

Just out of curiosity why do you hate Nathanial Howe?  Because of what his dad did?  I could understand to a point, but have you ever thought that Renden Howe might of been the only 1 that was downright evil in the family, that maybe the kids had no idea what dad was doing?  It's a possibility.  I had my revenge with Howe in DAO, he got exactly what he deserved but to take it out on the kids who you don't even know their story yet.  That would be just as bad as what Howe did to your family.  Just because there's 1 bad apple in the bunch doesn't mean their all bad and to get rid of them before you've had a look would be such a shame.

It seems Mhairi dies every time no matter what. This is kind of disappointing. I thought the party members that survive the Joining would be chosen randomly. Oh, well.

Oghren burping after drinking the darkspawn blood was classic...lol.

Why I hate nathanial
1) He tries to kill me.
2) He defends his father (sorry but if my dad was a murderer I wouldnt)

Howe did it to my family, I see this as evening the field, It dosent make things better but it makes one person feel better and it sends a message "Dont **** with my family". Besides Howe saw no problem killing a what was it 9 year old defence less child.

And how could he not know, "So dad how did we get a new place in Highever, and why arent you in Ostagar and wasnt this place recently attacked ?" No way would he be that blind.

Lmao Oghren's a riot in this game, just like he was in DAO.  And listening to him banter with the mage, I love it.

When did he try and kill you?

Have you played the game yet? Have you talked to him yet? Obviously you haven't if you make this comment:

My initial thoughts were that she died because I was a rogue (our initial test run-through) or that you put Oghren in the joining.

Happened again when I ran through as a mage. Then I remember that she never had any scenes outside of the Keep in the adverts. Oh well.... ^^

I slept on it, I'm over it.

I wonder how my PC would have reacted to this. I'm sure you don't really get to adequately express it in game, but I imagine he would have been very torn and grievous about it. Being the commander, meeting Mhairi who was so eager and had the potential to play a great part in helping him lead the Order... watching her drop dead.

Well played, Bioware. Now my character is pissed and I'm not even sure if Nathaniel is going to survive anymore.
