If you cant make your own decisions and oppinions on something before experiencing it you a bigger one, sorry but are you saying I cant criticize something until i try it ? Because thats just idiotic, yes I can be wrong, but chances are I will not be as its my opinion, and yeah 2 worlds new it was bad before playing it, played the demo just confirmed it, so your wrong I can make a judgement before playing a game.leeboi2 wrote...

Im glad I did this, sure I am spoiling the game, but damn im not buying this, it sounds terrible so far, seriously no way to save her WTF why give her a trailer then, why not kill Howe, no one wants him to live (he better die in this otherwise this is total BS killing of a good character and keeping a one who I hate alive).
You think a characters good, and you hate another character even thouht you've never played the game? You're a retard.
Does *Spoiler* Die? [Just a confirmation.]

wonder if they'll all be locked out, but, if not, my two cents on the
matter is, well, just confusion. I mean, a Plot choice like this is
D-List stuff, not something Bioware would do. If they choose to have
a character that is close to the Protaganist die, they have always left
that till almost the end of the game, not with-in the first half bloody hour
(give or take)
Also, if they die, it's usually meaningful, not just, "Oh, by the by, being
a Grey Warden can be hazardous to your health," (Pause) Like we did
not already know that quite well, thanks. Had they not given Mhairi a
reveal Trailer and Character Page, we would have simply lumped her
in with Jory and Daveth. But, she was, for all intents and purposes,
promoted as being there four the duration. Well, now we find out not
so much.
Alot of folks have been saying, "Well, Bioware wants to make the Joining
feel more risky." Wtf? We we not told a hundred times in DA:O that not only
does the Joining kill people, but that, even if you survive you are, in essence,
slowing dying and won't live to see 50 before you go **** bat crazy? Also, for
the people saying the story needed more drama. Are you frakking serious?!
Have you not been playing either game? There is already Tradegy and
drama out the bloody wahzoo; so we sure as hell didn't need to have a Party
Member character die not even halfway through the game to drive the point
home that Thedas is a Brutal place. We already knew.
Look, I'll finish the game. Was a **** to get and I want to see this threw, but,
I pray to God that whomever game up with the idea to off Mhairi DOES NOT
get a say in Dragon Age 2, or any of the possible other expansions between
now and then. I mean, when Obsidian pulled this crap with NWN2, it really
just showed that thier writing team needed work. But I do 'not' expect this kind
of D-list crap from Bioware. If this is what thier writing team thinks is good
"Drama', then someone needs to bring the ME2 writing team over from Vancouver
to sort things out. Well...here's to hoping they don't pull this with Valenna. If she
does die, it better be at the very end of the game, and it better be significant, not
"Drink this chalice full of Blood and become what you've always wanted,"
*Cue Death Rattle* "Opps, sorry Mhairi..."

I'm pretty sure almost everyone just sacrificed their least favorite human soldier on Virmire, and iirc that's considered one of the most powerful moments in Mass Effect...Drasanil wrote...
I think it is, not because she was some
"token female", but rather because she was one NPC people really
wanted, thats what makes it dark. If they had given you the option of
who dies then it would have sucked: most people would just pick their
least favorite character, and end up feeling like they came up a head as
opposed to actually losing something.
EXACTLY. If you treat someone as a real character when they aren't (especially if they're something the fanbase wanted, like a female warrior/woman who's not a jerk or semi-crazy), people will feel betrayed and get angry.G1ganotosaurus wrote...
This is like if Jenkins from the original Mass Effect got his own companion video.
And really, what's the point? "HERP DERP THE JOINING CAN KILL YOU"? Both you the player and you the character already know that.

Why? You exactly -shouldn't- be able to alter it. I tried at first, I had her approval up at 30 through gifts I had carried over, I tried raising her will power and her constitution, nothing worked. And it hit me exactly as that. People don't survive the joining, the player needs to understand that, not get pissy Mhairi dies. She and every other person willing to become a Grey Warden is literally dooming themself to a death sentance. Whether immediately or just a bit further down the road, when The Calling hits. I'm actually glad from an observers standpoint they did it, and I wish they made everyone possibly die from the Joining. I only wish the player could be the one to actually perform the ceremony like Duncan did, to understand you're possibly killing these people for the greater good.
This. Exactly. I would have been far more upset if everyone survived.

I can't disagree more. How is it "D-list crap?" The joining is not safe, and never was. It should be expected that someone would die during the joining. The fact that I didn't expect it is telling. BioWare did what was best for the story and the game, and they played off the conditioning we all have had from other games. Seriously, thanks BioWare for showing us you have the balls to follow through with the lore you've created. +10 Rep to BioWare.

Just out of curiosity why do you hate Nathanial Howe? Because of what his dad did? I could understand to a point, but have you ever thought that Renden Howe might of been the only 1 that was downright evil in the family, that maybe the kids had no idea what dad was doing? It's a possibility. I had my revenge with Howe in DAO, he got exactly what he deserved but to take it out on the kids who you don't even know their story yet. That would be just as bad as what Howe did to your family. Just because there's 1 bad apple in the bunch doesn't mean their all bad and to get rid of them before you've had a look would be such a shame.
1) He tries to kill me.
2) He defends his father (sorry but if my dad was a murderer I wouldnt)
Howe did it to my family, I see this as evening the field, It dosent make things better but it makes one person feel better and it sends a message "Dont **** with my family". Besides Howe saw no problem killing a what was it 9 year old defence less child.
And how could he not know, "So dad how did we get a new place in Highever, and why arent you in Ostagar and wasnt this place recently attacked ?" No way would he be that blind.
When did he try and kill you?
Have you played the game yet? Have you talked to him yet? Obviously you haven't if you make this comment:
"So dad how did we get a new place in Highever, and why arent you in Ostagar and wasnt this place recently attacked ?"

But the point is "No one is safe", and you can't trust a teaser and what not. People are just angry that they wanted her and can't have her. Also, she's the new Daveth, Ser Jory was a coward who didn't deserve to be a knight, or a Grey Warden.
Agreed, she's not Jory, she is Daveth. Jory tried to bolt and run Daveth manned up and drank it down knowing it might kill him (and it did). Mairi knew she might die but she still drank it anyway though she had more of a "Ser Gilmore" outlook in my mind, someone who wanted to be a Gray Warden but could handle the ewww I'm drinking darkspawn blood aspect of it.

But...a character without any unique items in the beginning of the game for me isn't a good sign, I mean Oghren's got that nice looking axe and a unique belt item while Ander's got a nice pendant and rings and Mhairi's got...well typical dragonbone heavymail armor and a warden's helmet I could see this as a telltale sign that something might happen to Mhairi in the opening events...just didn't expect her to die in a very anti-climactic way.
That said I wish they could've developed her more, I wanted a female warrior for my team and Mhairi was becoming interesting up to the point where she died.

I was pretty bummed about Mhairi. I loaded an old save and tried again just to make sure! But I had my suspicions about her when I realized that in the cutscenes, her helmet wasn't disappearing... and all of the player characters' were >_>

I was horribly bummed when she died during the joining......I personally would have thought it would have been a bigger impact if everyone's favorite drunken dwarf bit it.....
but yeah to be honest, I have never been broken up about a video game action before but I am sort of annoyed that they decided to kill her off (so early too)
that is my rant, would love it if they brought her back to life or tweaked it so you can save her (doubt it :-\\\\ ) but that is sort of what I want.
*sigh*
.........I know I may sound sorta whiney, but come on.........you kill off the determined, good intentioned, powerful (enough to be a tank and personality-wise) female character.
-35 approval ...........and for that you lost my major enthusiasm attribute..........now gimmie gifts to win me back :-D

The environment is better - there are no marathon places. The Fade is fast and fine - less 'wth is in my contacts???' Some of the characters would be great if you could get to know them better. Some of them would have been nicely romantic, given a chance. (men more than women - I can only see an aging doctor meeting Velanna at a country club golf party, personally - she's kind of dull, but the dwarf is adorable.
(What's with the weirdly tanned elves, btw? Aren't they woodland creatures? With Zevran - ok. He had a surfer quality. But for the most part, they look like they've seen the inside of too many tanning booths, turned leathery orange, & will die of skin cancer long before they reach their Calling.)
