You'll have to excuse my spelling its horrid sometimes but, heres is a repository of things I've figured out that may help bioware/ea locate and solve the issue.

The run down: Random crashes.
After crashing I told it to open a debugger (Visual Studio 2008) in this case.

Memory Usage at Crash: 816,088K

First Error:
"Unhandled exception at 0x0081bc64 in daorgins.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location: 0x00000024"

Now this could be because I don't have access to the proper symbols or the needed source information but if it helps locate it, it helps.

My system information
- Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (Up-To-Date)
- AMD Phenom X3 8750 2.4Ghz Triple Core (Black-Edition)
- 8GB PC6400 Dual-Channel, OCZ SLI Ready Ram
- HIS Radeon HD 5670 512mb GDDR5 (Latest ATI Drivers)
- Integrated Realtek HD Sound
- DirectX 11
- MSI MS-7551 Motherboard

Dragon Age Information
- Patched to 1.03
- Video: 1680x1050
- Very High Graphics
- No Anti-Aliasing
- Max Texture

I hope this helps.

I am having bad crashes since 1.03. I just get a black screen, and my comp goes unresponsive. I need to reboot, restarting doesn't work. (I have a restart button on my comp) I don't get any error messages, nada. I updated my sound and video drivers since this has been happening, reinstalled .NET framework, and this is the *only* game it happens with. I never crashed prior to 1.03. I'm thinking of going back to 1.02 because I don't like this hard crashing.

System info:
Windows Vista 64 bit Ultimate (UTD)
AMD ATholon 64 X2 Dual Core processor 6000+ 3.01 Ghz
4 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 (Drivers UTD)
Sound Blaster Audigy (Drivers UTD)
Dx 11 - ran Dxdiag - nothing out of ordinary.

I cannot finish the game because it crashes to the desktop during the final boss fight. This is incredibly infuriating, since the battle is long, and it tends to crash when the boss reaches about 1/3 to 1/4 health. I've put 40+ hours of my life into the game, and I would like to finish it! It's been marvelous up until now.

This issue may predate the 1.03 patch, but I had not had trouble with crashes until now.

System Info:

Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium (service pack 2)

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU (2.4 Ghz)

3.0 GB RAM

NVidia GeForce 8800 (512 MB)

DX 11, Dxdiag - normal

I've been getting major crashes since 1.03, and still getting crashes. Running Win Vista X64 SP2, I have 4.0 GB of RAM, and I know my ram is good because I just replaced it and have run a memtest on them several times to make sure they're OK.

[Posting this to any/all relevant threads.]

Add me to the list of those experiencing FREQUENT crashes (CtD) after installing patch 1.03, but had NO crashing under 1.02. (Although 1.03 has fixed the ever-increasing load-time problem, which was pretty bad!) On my rig I the CtD seems to occur mostly at the very beginning of combat, or when an auto-save might be triggered.

System Specs:

Windows 7 x64 Premium

Intel Q6600 (2.4GHz, quad core)

8GB RAM

nVidia GT240, 1GB VRAM

Hope Bioware is working on a(nother) fix!

Same problem as everyone else I just got awakening today and cant play it due to crashing every few min, so I save after I do anything so I can pick up were I left off after 6 crashs like this I have just about HAD IT. I dont post much on forms and I expect that a game not get released if the damn thing cant play for 10 min with out crashing.

I have to say I love the storys and when the game are working the game play of Bioware games and I have had no problems with their xbox games but as far as PC games I dout I ever buy another BIOware PC game with how this game is turning out. As far is PC games go I think Blizzard is the only one that worries if the game works right before they release it.

I have givem up today, crashing every 5-7 mins is no way to play, since installing awakenings the crashing is worse then when I first installed 1.03. I know my system is more then enough as I just upgrade yesterday and perviousy the game played fine. I am very discouraged at the lack of responce from Bioware to this issue.:(

That error information is included in the System Error Console log file for the crashes. Without even the basic debug symbol file you won't get any good information out of VS Debugger (and even with the symbol file there are often times when refactoring displaces what the symbol file knows and what the loaded libraries know).

I don't have any crashes with 1.03 specifically, UNTIL I started playing awakening...THEN it crashed like 10 minutes into the game.

I've crashed 4 times already, twice losing significant progress. I really don't see myself playing anymore until this gets fixed.

I just had it crash on me with Awakening for the first time. Seeing the diversity in our systems, I'm at a lose for what it could be.

I had crashed a lot too since I installed 1.03 patch. I however re-installed the game and reverted back to 1.02a and no crashes for me again. Only thing I encountered was suffering through the loading times, but I rather wait 2-3 minutes for load than face constant crashing to desktop.

15 minutes of gameplay on Awakening resulted in 2 crashes. I loved DAO and want to play but I'd rather just load up my SC2 beta until this gets fixed.

How does one roll back the 1.03 patch after it's installed?

On Steam? You don't, on a regular installation, you uninstall and roll back to the last patch. There's no easy way to roll back.

:crying: <- Bioware you made me sad.

My issue with this new patch is constant crashes.... I have never had a crashing issue with Dragon Age Origins and now crash constantly. Oh and when I say crash...I really mean my entire freaking system freezes up and is unresponsive nothing I do works...I must manually reboot the computer the hard way....the really not so good on the hardware way....

PC spec's
Vista 32
4 gigs ram
1TB HD
BFG oc'd GTX 280
680w PSU
EVGA 680i FTW motherboard or such I forget

Anyway long story short I can run the game flawlessly....I can run anything fine no issues. Patch 1.3 rolls around and poof... crash issues. Patch 1.2 had the long ass load times but at least it didn't kill my will to play... I'm sick and tired of playing for 5 minutes...freezing and having to replay that moment endlessly thanks to not being able to save due to crashing. Anyhow sorry to just re-post this from another thread I felt this was a better place for it. Anyway Bioware what a major let down.... I finished a second game in advance pre-ordered awakening and was so excited to rush home after taking my midterms to install awakening and its un-playable due to nonstop crashing. Please rush a fix on this as obviously everyone is having the same damn issue. Thanks!

I have practically been worshiping Bioware but this time they really let me down. :crying:

I will say, since I installed Awakening though, it still crashes but not nearly as often. *shrugs* I dunno. I usually seem to crash when I'm fighting mages and such. I guess there Magicks break the game. lol

Oh I'll crash just standing still right after talking to someone when I'm ABOUT to save my game...I gave up on playing this patch was a disaster will just check the forums to see when Bioware gets around to fixing this mess. Glad I'm not the only one.

"The error 0xC0000005 is generated by an illegal "memory access violation". This can be caused by anything from faulty RAM, an incorrect/corrupt device driver, poorly written/updated software and more commonly under Windows XP Service pack 2, malware/adware installations."

"poorly written/updated software " Hehe that made me laugh.

I would love to see the bioware employee who would look at that long dxdiag report. That one guy posted... Made me scroll all the way down ... rude

When they don't even read/or post in a 20 page complaint thread that there already is.

mine seems to occur when the CD-Rom fires up. If I am paused, I have no problem, but if I am doing something it crashese. Here is my technical jargon, of which I understand nothing of. I could use some help if anyone knows anything. Thanks in advance.

I have the same problems Popeandy has. It seems randomly, either during conversations, during combat, or just sitting around twiddling my thumbs. The only consistency is that it doesn't take very long for the crash to happen (usually within the first 5-15 minutes of playing) and it locks up my computer.

Oddly enough there are times when I pull up the task manager and that seems to wake DAO out of its freeze for a few seconds to hear the rest of the conversation, or another snippet of combat sounds before freezing again and locking up my computer for good.

I've tried everything I could think of, updating drivers, going back to old drivers, downloading vista SP2, reverting back to SP1, altering all the graphics settings to low, playing in windowed mode and nothing seems to work. The only change I cannot enact is reverting DAO to patch 1.02 as I have the product through steam which leads me to suspect 1.03 is the problem. Plus, I had put in three complete play throughs before 1.03 hit with zero problems with DAO on any setting.
