I just got the game and it won't install
During the setup phase, it tries to install the 1.03 patch and it fails there.
It says "installation failed"

So i downloaded the patch manually from the website and that successfully install.
But when I tried the setup again, it fails again at the same spot

Is there any logfile that I can check to see where the installation fails?

My system is XP Home SP3
Intel COre 2 Duo 1.86
2GB Ram

I have exactly the same issue - the installation dies when attempting to apply the 1.03 patch.

EDIT: And strangely enough, running setup.exe in Win 2000 compatibility mode did do the trick.  What on earth??!?

Can't install at all here. Running Vista Ultimate. I tried all compatibility modes, and nada.

I can't seem to get past installing patch 1.03. Tried patching it seperately and that also fails.

Did i just spend $50 on an expansion that doesn't work?

Whoa that's crazy...

I'm running Windows XP SP3

I had copied the CD to my desktop in a single folder named "DragonAge" (I don't know if this step was necessary)

I right clicked "Setup.exe" and clicked "Properties"

Then clicked on the tab "Compatibility"

Then checked "Run this Program in Compatibility Mode for" and selected "Windows 2000"

Then clicked OK.

Then doubleclicked Setup.exe, clicked all the next's and typed in my key again, and it is installing now.

I have windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit, and all I get is "installation failed" after I enter the product key - it starts installing, then just stops. No error message, no nothing. I just reinstalled DAO last night (thank you 1.03 patch - had to roll back to 1.02) so I don't know what the problem is - at least with an error message I could troubleshoot :-P

Well, uninstalled then reinstalled DAO (no mods), ran the 1.03 patch from the Awakenings disc, and it is now installing.   (the other fixes listed in thread did not work for me)
I really hope the crash problem is not there from the original 1.03 patch :(  If it is, I may have to wait to play Awakenings, and roll back to 1.02 *crosses fingers that this is not the case*

I have Windows XP SP3 and it's still failing, even in compatibility mode, though I got mine from the EA store as a digital download. :/ It fails in the first 10% of extracting the ep1_campaign.rar. :( Blah.

I'm running windows 7. The installation fails in all compadibility modes. I will try a fresh install of DAO and re-try. If I don't here again today then it worked.

Okay, managed to track down the culprit: its the .rim file starting with al_arl01al_redcliffe.

Problem is, i'm working in a foreign city and have my been playing DA:O with a no cd launcher fix. Can't get the original file off my DVD, which is on my desk at home.

If anybody could be so kid as to upload the file somewhere, i will have your babies! Pretty please?

For what it is worth, I have the same "installation failed" problem. I am running Vista. I really do not want to uninstall DA:O because I do not want to lose all the downloadable content (not sure if it will recognize it). Call me a stone-age rock cruncher, but I do not have a clue as to how to run the set-up in Widnows 2000 mode - can anyone enlighten, please?

Oops, I take it back. I went to "computer" then "Dragon Age DvD," then "explore" then found "Set-up" then right clicked on "properties" and found "compatibility." I set it to Windows 2000 and now it is installing as I type.

However, what in the name of bits and bytes and almighty DOS is going on here?

Same issue here, Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Switched compatibility mode to Win 2000 and it works. So, thanks for the fix, I'd already uninstalled and reinstalled only to have the same issue and I was getting angry. I hate to bash developers or anything, but this seems like a pretty big issue that someone should have noticed before sending the copies out to stores...

i had to turn user account control off, then switch to 2000 compatibility and then run as administrator to get the installation to finish

thanks to the previous people who figured this out

Mine is failing to install patch 1.03 from both the Awakening DVD and from downloading it from Bioware. I've tried changing the Compatibility Mode to 2000, XP (service pack 2) and XP (service pack 3). I have windows 7.
