Worked fine after swithching compatibility to Win2000. Well, it was a very good operating system. If it wasn't for security issues, I would have kept it.
It seems bioware didn't care about security so they kept it :innocent:

Open up Word
Paste the following into word
"E:\\data\\DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.exe" /addins="BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Settings\\addins.xml" /manifest="I:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\addins\\dao_prc_ep_1\\manifest.xml"
Now, change this accordingly to your own drives.
E=My DVD drive, Put whatever your DVD drive is.
I:\\Games = my location for Dragon age, insert your own path to it
With the modifications, copy this text. Open up CMD, right click in it, press paste, enter if need be. The Addon installer will run succesfully. With any luck you can now boot up Dragon Age and select Awakening!
PS. This board tend to double the number of "\\". If you see two \\ in a row instead of one, simply make sure it's only one, as folder paths should be.

For what it is worth, I have the same "installation failed" problem. I am running Vista. I really do not want to uninstall DA:O because I do not want to lose all the downloadable content (not sure if it will recognize it). Call me a stone-age rock cruncher, but I do not have a clue as to how to run the set-up in Widnows 2000 mode - can anyone enlighten, please?
Oops, I take it back. I went to "computer" then "Dragon Age DvD," then "explore" then found "Set-up" then right clicked on "properties" and found "compatibility." I set it to Windows 2000 and now it is installing as I type.
However, what in the name of bits and bytes and almighty DOS is going on here?
Your DLC is safe - as long as you "log in" it's on the server side, and will recognize you. Once I got Awakenings installed on a pure version of DAO (fresh install, no mods, 1.03 patch I took from the DVD) and working, the DLC is available - you just have to download it again.
I'm going to try adding mods one at a time - most are just cosmetic.

For the DVD drive, I'm assuming this is if you've got the Awakenings hard copy? For the digital downloads, we'd put that path, right?

Go to "Run" in your start menu, and type CMD, then hit enter.

And yes, if you have a digital copy it would be to whatever location that is. The point is to put the path to that file in the command promt. So if you have the file "DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.Exe" in "C:\\Documents\\DAA\\data" or some such hypothetical location you would use "C:\\Documents\\DAA\\data\\DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.Exe" instead

It's Command Prompt, and can be acessed exactly as bleeding hearts described.

Edit: The 1.03 patch took longer to install than Awakenings did.

In a "command prompt"
Check Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt

None of the compatablitiy fixes work for me right now. Neither does safe mode or different extraction programs. I was able to get the patch installed, but the installation fails at a random completion percentage after that.
