Okay, managed to track down the culprit: its the .rim file starting with al_arl01al_redcliffe.

Problem is, i'm working in a foreign city and have my been playing DA:O with a no cd launcher fix. Can't get the original file off my DVD, which is on my desk at home.

If anybody could be so kid as to upload the file somewhere, i will have your babies! Pretty please?

If you have an officially registered copy, you should be able to download the game via the EADM with your account login. You don't need a disc for that. Just call and have someone at home give you your key code, register your game with that code via the EADM, and you should be able to download a digital version and install that to play without the disc.

Ok, I got it to install. Here's the thing... I honestly believe that it's just luck as to weather it finishes or not. I noticed that it was failing at a different part every single time, so I decided to just try to install it a bunch of times in a row, without changing anything, to see what happens. The first time, it failed at ~50%, then ~15%, then ~80%, then ~50% again, then it completed installation. I didnt change anything in between attempts. I just kept trying... which, again, was super lame.

I am having a different problem x.x
Every time I try to install Awakening, it stops at  'Preparing to extract ep1_core.rar (this may take several seconds)
It doesnt give me an error or anything, it just stays like that and does nothing =.=''
I tryed switching to win 2000, win 98/me and nothing seems to fix this problem XD I tryed waiting for it like an hour and .. NOTHING >__>'' any ideas?

This could be an incompatibility issue with 7z or winrar.

I had those install so you could try uninstalling 7z or winrar or any self extracting archiver and try again

This is just the theory though.

If you bought the software, make sure you know how to redownload it again.

Finally got it to install it seems there are a few different fixes out there.

What worked for me was to first change to compatibility mode windows 2000

(i am using Win XP) Always use the compatibility just below your current version eg. for vista use XP compatibility.

If this alone doesnt work reinstall a manually downloaded version of patch

DA O 1.02a

then manually install the patch DA O 1.03 which is provided separately with your DA O awakenings CD or download.

Then do an install of awakenings.

If this is still no good you then will have to use winrar to find and isolate the path files that are not extracting and insert them manually. Before you do that though i would personally do a clean reinstall of DA O.

Hope this helps

hey guys, I'm new to this whole gaming thing but I got a PS3 and dragon age for christmas and it has taken over my life, I don't know whether I'm in the right place to post this but I'm trying to install dragon age awakening and when I put it in, I install the patch, it says installation complete, then when I go back and try to install awakening it tells me I have to put in the dragon age origins disk, as it needs origins data to install awakening. When I do this nothing happens, it simply goes to the normal dragon age origins menu. I have tried many times, and I'm probably doing something stupid but I'm DESPERATE! PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!

I got it to install. 1.03 is not giving me any woes or anything--I had uninstalled, then re-installed DAO, updated to 1.03 but failed before installing Awakenings, so I re-downloaded Awakenings from EA and the installation went fine, my broken file was fixed. Those of you with digital downloads should try the same. Nothing happened during my first download that would have caused the error, but, whatever.

In our internal testing, we believe we've narrowed the issue down to being related to an old version of a WinRAR dll file in the system directory.

If you are having difficulty installing, either try the compatibility mode workaround, or you could also try and uninstall WinRAR or install the latest version from http://www.rarlab.com/

Any advice on how to handle this if you're using the EA direct download? I mean, I do not see how I could use the compatibility mode workaround when their whole install process is automated. Second, for that matter, how to do you reinstall an EA direct download---do I have to uninstall both DA:O and DA:A before I can get the downloader to want to reinstall?

I'm not entirely sure what is the problem here? The PS3 patch for DA: Origins (the original game) should be downloaded from the PSN store automatically. As far as I know the PS3 version of DA: Origins (retail box) should be installed to the PS3's harddisk automatically. And then you'll need the original disc (or the Awakenings disc?) to play the expansion.

In the menu, the normal dragon age: origins menu, is there not an option for selecting 'awakening'? You can also import a character from Origins to Awakening, so it is possible, you'll need to start DA: Origins up to see this option?

edit:

If you look longer down the list, you'll see a forum for ps3 tech support. Please use this one in the future as the people there probably are capable of answering your questions.

I keep getting this in the install log (below). Does this make sense? What keeps happening wrong at the end?

Reinstalled again, and the install log looks like this -- I think it's the same. There's a "Result -1" after the running saferun line. Any ideas. When I boot the game, the other campaigns is greyed out.

And yes, if you have a digital copy it would be to whatever location that is. The point is to put the path to that file in the command promt. So if you have the file "DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.Exe" in "C:\\\\\\\\Documents\\\\\\\\DAA\\\\\\\\data" or some such hypothetical location you would use "C:\\\\\\\\Documents\\\\\\\\DAA\\\\\\\\data\\\\\\\\DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.Exe" instead

works with STEAM problem where you do not see AWAKENINGS in Other Campaigns. Make sure you include the " when you paste in the CMD line. Also remove all the double or triple \\ to singles and also point to where those files are on YOUR computer.

Gamers, All this mumbo jumbo you are subjecting yourself to while trying to install Awakenings is foolish and a waste of time. These installation problems are the responsibility of Bioware and should be addressed and corrected by Bioware. Sure, some of these tinker-toy solutions may work for some of you but makeshift fixes don't correct the problems for the majority of users. Be patient and wait for the programmers who wrote the code to repair the bugs. The majority of these posts sound like it's a crisis of life threatening proportions if you're unable to play the game immediately upon receiving it. I'm sure Bioware will come through with a new patch a.s.a.p. and you'll be able to return to your virtual world with a donut in one hand and a mouse in the other minus all the anxiety and loss of sleep.

QFT - I have to say I do agree.
I'm imminently expecting my copy to arrive and whilst I'm not overly confident it'll work - blah-de-blah - I'm not gonna let it ruin my day!
