I just got the game and it won't install
During the setup phase, it tries to install the 1.03 patch and it fails there.
It says "installation failed"

So i downloaded the patch manually from the website and that successfully install.
But when I tried the setup again, it fails again at the same spot

Is there any logfile that I can check to see where the installation fails?

My system is XP Home SP3
Intel COre 2 Duo 1.86
2GB Ram

Thank you, worked a treat. Maybe their testers need to upgrade. :?

I right-clicked and chose Troubleshoot Compatibility, and chose to use Recommended Settings, which chose to run in compatibility for XP SP2, and that worked. (Running Win7 Pro)

Hi, I'm new to this 'Forum' lark, so I hope I don't sound too much like a plank!

My DAOA disk arrived today but, as seems to have happened to many people, I can't install it.
I cannot install the 1.03 patch - it cannot find my original DAO installation, (although DAO is installed to the default C-drive location and works fine), and says I must re-install DAO. This applies to the downloaded patch and the one on the disk.  But I cannot uninstall DAO either because the uninstaller cannot find the original installation!

Please indulge this 'pre-historic rock-cruncher' with any advice on how to proceed.

I'd like to keep my progress in DAO, (backing up my BioWare folder from 'My Docs' I believe does that?), and keep my DLC, (if I have to download again when DAO is re-installed will my offer codes still work?).

Or maybe someone can advise if I can fix the problem without completely uninstalling DAO? (Dropping a new install on top of the original? I can hope, can't I?) Image IPB

It could be that the registry entry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\BioWare\\Dragon Age) "Path" is not pointing to the right spot.

You people sure are stubborn. THERE ARE SERIOUS BUGS IN PATCH 1.03. Trying all the "Johnny Hacker's Guru Fixes" currently being suggested will NOT slove the problem. The best you can expect by fooling around with game files is to screw up your computer and the game. Take a vacation for a couple of weeks and wait for the Bioware code makers to correct this mess. Your game disks are not going to evaporate. I'm beginning to think that there are NO patient gamers. Next thing you'll be doing is screaming out the window, "I'm mad as hell and not going to take it anymore!"

@ topic: are there people here who've got Steam, no mods installed and yet meet installation problems (except for those perhaps who forgot to allow Steam to update DA:O to patch 1.03?). Starting to doubt whether to install Awakening with the amount of bugs I hear on the forums

I tried a clean install no dlcs or anything, update then install awakening, compatibility for every os and the command lines, uninstalling/updating winrar, still getting install failed.

Any suggestions? (besides more waiting)

Not working here. Tried everything people have said. This is garbagely. I already went through this crap with "The Saboteur" I know it isn't the same developer but it annoying to buy a game and not be able to play it.

I had to re-download my digital copy from the EA Download manager (after first deleting the cache) and it finally installed, actually without a problem. On another forum someone mentioned that their digital download had a corrupted .rar file which was causing the problem. I agree. So re-downloading seems to get you a different, or at least, uncorrupted version.

If nothing else works, try this. I tried everything else before I finally got it.

It seems clear that there are different issues between the DVD media version and the digital download version.  Sounds like the 2000 Compat fix works for most DVD people.   For the digital downloads its data corruption in some of the RAR files - especially the campaign file.  Thats a huge single file, easily corrupted by a minor network error.

I am currently re-downloading after clearing my cache.  I looked at the log file in the documents folder (felt like an idiot that I had not looked there after looking all over the place for it.  These logs clearly indicate checksum issues (read: data corruption) in some of the RAR files.  If you look at the various posted log files you will find they have different failed files.

It seems like bad advise to tell people to reinstall DAO.  Check your log file first!!!

DVD media is not as perfect as people presume.  If the 2000 Compat thing doesn't work on your system then return the bad disk and get a new one.  Dont waste time uninstalling and reinstalling DAO from scratch.  I have made this silly mistake severl times and finally learned - DVD installation media sucks for data and is prone to imperfections and corruption.

Don't do any silly command line BS - anybody who blindly pastes random code off the internet into their command prompt is an idiot begging to be taken in.

Win 2000 comp-fix finally worked.

Just took me like 15 attempts of it (and a lot of anger management) before I realised I was changing the compatibility for the autorun-file, not the setup-file... feeling stupid ;)

Anyways, thanks for the help!

This thread delivers. The compatibility thing worked for me (XP SP3). What a mess... someone over there needs to lose their friggin' job over stuff like this.
