I'm running Windows Vista Pro 64bit and the compatibility fix isn't working. I downloaded Awakening with EADM and even after setting compatibility for EADM and DAOriginsLauncher.exe my Awakening installation still fails.

I've manually patched Origins to the latest patch but still cannot install Awakening. :/ Any help?

I was having the "Installation Failed" message for a bit too. Then I did two things and I'm not sure which is the one that worked, but you can experiment. First, I used Windows XP compatibility mode on d:/setup.exe. Second, I set full admin permissions to d:/setup.exe before executing it.

The easiest way to give full admin permissions (which alleviates a lot of file permission conflicts on games that weren't built with Vista or Windows 7 in mind. I have Windows 7 64-bit, by the way) is to run the file listed on this website: http://www.mydigital...ght-click-menu/ It'll add a "Grant Full Admin Permissions" option to your right-click menu in windows. Very easy.

You might also need to disable UAC, but I'm not sure. I've had it disabled since the first time I booted Win7. But to do that, just follow these steps: http://www.petri.co....ndows_vista.htm

I hope this helps!

It's not necessary to disable the UAC, and, in fact, I'd recommend against it for the sake of your system's security.  But changing the compatibility settings and granting admin rights to the installer is essential.

Hey, i think i've found the solution for problem with ep1_core. When instalation fails, when there's unpacking ep1_core or after instalation patch 1.03 you should do 4 steps.

 step 1

Copy game from dvd to your system (i don't know if i'ts necessary) or explore dvd. Then right click on setup and go to properties. ( or compatibility)

 step 2

Next, choose Windows Compatibility mode for Windows 2000.

Step 3
 img38.imageshack.us/i/dragonageeee.png/

I have pl ver. of windows, but YOU should choose  what i choosed on this pic. (run in 256 colours etc.etc.)

Step 4 (optional)

Setup shuld call Setup.exe :)

I don't know, if i will help you, but it helped me. I if helped you, than write it in this topic. Sorry for my english.

I am having a very similar problem, with only minor details differing.

- I run on a Windows XP 64-bit OS.
- I have purchased the game as a digital copy through the EA Download Manager.

I went to install the file, and it managed to do the following before failing:

Extract: unrar.dll... 100%
Extract: saferun.exe... 100%
Extract: saferun.dll... 100%
Installing update: patch\\DragonAge1.03.exe
Preparing to extract ep1_core.rar... (this may take several seconds)
Extract: packages\\core_ep1\\audio\\sound\\audo_categories.fev
Extract: packages\\core_ep1\\audio\\sound\\c_dragona.fev
Extract: packages\\core_ep1\\audio\\sound\\c_dragona_bank02.fsb
Extract: packages\\core_ep1\\audio\\sound\\c_ltdragon.fev
Extract: packages\\core_ep1\\audio\\sound\\c_ltdragon.fsb
-----

At this point the installer fails, as you might have guessed. I may have missed a line as I had to hit print screen just as the failure occured. When the failure occurs, the window closes otherwise I'd have an completely accurate account of my installation failure.

I've already tried several things to get the expansion installed:

- Switched compatability to Windows 2000 (And all other Compatabilities, just to check).
- Reinstalled the Game (Removing Custom-Content)
- Patching at 1.01, 1.02, 1.03, and 1.04 (Each time testing at each compatability level).
- Replacing the unrar.dll file in both my system directory and the dragon age directory (as that was a fix I've come across).

I am now re-downloading the expansion with hopes that it might clear up the error. If anyone can offer additional feedback I'd be very interested. Thanks in advance if you can help.

@ Darius Are you having a failure related to .NET, or is it before the installer checks to see if you have .NET installed?

Also, check here to see if you've disabled DEP (Data Execution Prevention) at the bottom of the linked page:

http://help.dragonag...?&p_faqid=23948

I'm hoping it's not the .NET problem...

To be completely honest, I don't know if it is related to a .Net issue.

The is the first I've heard mention of one, and I saw nothing of the sort while going through my installation woes. If you could be more descriptive with what the .NET issue is?

Well, what seems to happen is that the download manager gets to a certain place in the install, and then tries to install .NET 2.0 SP2. Then an error is kicked up that says something like, ".NET 2.0 SP2 is incompatible with 64 bit systems." The problem is, there's no way around that, so far as I can tell. And it doesn't matter whether you have that version of .NET installed on your machine, or a later version.

I don't receive a message about any Service Pack issues related to .Net.

Additionally, the answer link you've sent me doesn't provide any help so far. The UAC option of my computer isn't available, and the Core.exe isn't within the folder listed. To be more specific, the directory exists. I just can't find the file.

Within the directory are these items (with the Green EA Ball):

- EADownloadManager.exe
- EADMAirComponentsUninstall.exe
- EADMUninstall.exe
- Login.exe
- MessageDlg.exe
- PatchProgress.exe

While NOT a Green Ball, there is also another two files:

- EACoreCLI.exe
- EACoreServer.exe

I hope that information is helpful.

1) You won't find anything UAC-related on Windows XP.  The UAC wasn't introduced until Windows Vista.  The big problem is EA's trying to glork together a bunch of directions for *all* current versions of Windows at the same time, which is a recipe for disaster.

2)  ...and it looks like they've updated EADM, but not their info page.  **sigh**

I'm guessing you're going to want to pick "EADownloadManager.exe." as the file to turn DEP off on.  Keep in mind, this is a pure guess-- I'm on Windows 7, and haven't used EADM.

I figured as much, as I did some research on the UAC, etc on my own.

I also made the assumption that the EADownloadManager.exe was the file to use. I've already begun the process after clearing out my cache. With luck, I'll succeed when this is finished or atleast gain additional insight to my problem.

That, or perhaps some post-release QA will yield more options for fixing these problems. Thanks for your help thus far.

I currently have patch 1.04 installed, so I am going to uninstall Dragon Age: Origins and install a fresh copy. Hopefully it will allow it to patch correctly. Note: The installer is now failing earlier in the process. ^_^;

Well, I managed to isolate a portion of my issue.

Either I am having an issue from my end downloading the files from the EADM, or the files themselves are corrupt.

I found a site refering to an NSIS Error. Using the information on the page I used the /NCRC command to force Patch 1.03 to install. It got to 75% of the "patch set 2" in the file before failing. After this, I downloaded a solo version of Patch 1.03 and wrote over the executable in the expansions files.

This caused the patch to install correctly, but the installer still crashes. This time, it is ~20 seconds into the installation (much further than normal for me). The files now get to the first music_bank files.

This leads me to believe that I either had packet loss, or that the install from the EADM is bad. Going to trying letting the downloader pull the files down without an activity across my connection aside from the downloader.

Looking at my files with WinRAR, it seems that EADM is pulling down corrupt rars.

I have several clean rars, but I'm still missing some of them. I'm likely going to try and get in touch with customer service or something.

Odd... I did not have to specify any folder for the installation of Awakening... It just did...

and then it failed at Patch 1.03 (I'm on Win7 64) and when I ran setup.exe with Windows 2000 compatibility it worked.

THANKS to this thread for pointing it out!! 5 stars.

Hey guys

I downloaded Dragon age: awakening from the EA store and every time I tried to install it, the installer would stop at

preparing to extract ep1_core.rar...(this may take several seconds)"

and it would just stay like that for literally hours . I've tried updating my unrar.dll file, winrar, tried changing the compatibility mode to windows 2000, re-downloading the enitre game again, and none of them have fixed my problem.

Can anyone help me out here?

I'm having trouble installing Dragon Age Origins itself, not sure if the issue is related, but it was suggested to me to remove EADM completely then reinstall it, the download the game again. This will be my 3rd time downloading it, so hopefully 3rd time's a charm.

I've tried doing what you said, Hyno. But unfortunately it still doesn't work for me. It still pauses at "preparing to extract ep1_core.rar"

Ran it in Windows 2000 Compatibility mode and worked fine. I tried Windows XP (SP3) first but that didn't work, so running in Windows 2000 Compatibility seems like an easy fix.
