I'm a big fan of DAO and DA 2.
Played DAO on a Windoes XP pc and that worked fine. Now i installed EADM EA Download Manager) to be able to download ME2. Well that's when i decdied to buy DAO Awakening and download it through EADM. Fact is that DAO and ME2 install fine through EADM on my new Windows 7 Acer laptop. And they play also.
Just the friggin Awakening does not want to install, not through AEDM or by clicking in the exe in the map/folder. I tried almost everything mentioned in these forums. I did notice that the installer.exe is present in Task Manager but it does not install, just lags the pc like hell.
That's when i deciced to do a search the illegal way, downloaded a copy (because i do have a legal key now), burnt it on a dvd and installed it via DVD and guess what. It installs fine and shows nicely ingame under 'other campaigns'.
So don't come tell me it has something to do with compatibility issues. It's all about the crappy version we get to download from EA through EADM.
Now you tell me .......

First of all, pirating the software is wrong. Second of all, you had the original version on disc, the expansion pack (Awakening) via digital download... and it didn't work. Then you installed Awakening via disc... and it worked.
What does that tell you?

Nope, both from digital download. I do not have a Dragon Age Origins disc. I bought my original copy through steam about 2 years ago and the Steam-key is accepted in EADM. So now on my laptop i have a digital downloaded DAO and an DAO Awakening installed into from disc. ( I took the key from my XP-pc that still has DAO installed from the first download from Steam, 2 years ago).
What does that tell you?
I've been trying to install the bugger for 3 evenings in a row and really got sick of the crap. If you are able to do a data search on me you'll see i have like bought all DLC available. If critics are like okay i'll buy a game ..... but if nothing works and Bioware does not come up with a solution that works for me (not saying they do nothing) i'll have to take steps to make it work. Not said i agree over pirated stuff but in this case it worked for me.
Otherwise i should have bought another copy at the store ....... and spend another 15 Euros on a game i already paid for.
So i still think it is not a OS-bug but caused by a crappy installer coming with Awakening (when downloaded from EADM or Steam). It has nothing to do with the combination downloaded/disc or downloaded/downloaded.

Nope, i do not have a question now. If i would have had a question it would have been the same as one of the questions asked in this forum so many times before. No point in doing that.,
As so many repliers in this thread i just wanted to tell my grievances and to maybe point out at some gamers that it probably is wiser to buy an Awakening disk at the store rather than downloading from/with EADM.

I am having a similar issue with the dragon age origins ultimate edition I just purchased.
I keep getting "installation failed" messages. Tried it on a different computer and was unable to install it is well.
The item is open so I can no longer bring it back to the store I purchased it and I registered the game to my account.

Hi,
I signed up here to make a comment on this post. I just finished migrating an old installation from my XP box onto a new Windows7/x64 box. I do not remember having any problems back when I installed on XP.
I had the same "Failed to load library procedure: unrar.dll, RARProcessFileW
The specified procedure could not be found." error.
Anyway I am a 38 year old C++/ASM Win32 software engineer so luckily I have the experience to fix the issue.
Step 1.) Locate the folder containing the setup.exe
Step 2.) Download the 32 bit unrar DLL from http://www.rarlab.com/rar_add.htm
Step 3.) Paste the DLL into the same folder as setup.exe and the installation.
This will fix the missing RARProcessFileW DLL export error message. Also... for those who have an installation CD like me... you can make a NEW folder on one of your hard drives and copy the entire contents of the CD into that folder and paste the unrar.dll there.
Some final comments:
I am somewhat shocked by the amateur installation... it almost makes me wonder if a junior programmer at the company created the setup installation packages. The architecture of how DLC components are distributed is also extremely wasteful.
Finally:
I absolutely love the game... I am in my mid 30's and do not play many games anymore. However Dragon Age: Origins reminds me of my younger years playing Baldurs Gate. I installed DAO on this Windows7 workstation to complete the game one last time before purchasing Dragon Age 2.
If the bugs and wierdness isn't fixed in Dragon Age 2 I will make sure to come back and unleash a massive rant. But I am optimistic.
Thanks for listening,
-MessageBoxA

Ok I am having a problem with awakening and Origin on win 7 machine and it is not installing several times I got failed install for awakening.2x I got a warning sign with an ok button nothing else. Sometimes Origin will have the play on before it installs. I have uninstalled DAO and everything several times they are digital downloads so cant use a disk. I read one compatibility from Origin and it said to run orgin in vista mode. This however makes the install run in vista mode (if that is the problem) help desk don't have an answer and from what I have read it is an internal file that is messing up the install. Once the entire install disappeared. I am not sure what to do and I have never had an install issue with DAO or DLC's if any kind this is driving me crazy and I have tried every install method now changing compatibility from xp sp2 to none I used revo to uninstall 3 times and cleaned the registery out. Did a manual uninstall nothing seems to work if you know what I need to do let me know please this is exhausting.

And one more thing I been on the forms longer than you so I been researching this issue longer than you I skipped the other matters in this case all the video and other issues because this is a simple problem not associated with my computer equipment. If that was the issue or I had suspension of such , I would have posted all my data for you to peruse since this game has been working on my machines and equipment for the last 2 years it is not a hardware problem.

Please remember that no one is paid to do anything with your badly written blob of run-on text. If you will not attempt to control the flow of words with normal, everyday paragraph breaks, you can expect to be ignored, and just be happy someone answered you at all with as much as you got in spite of your attitude.
And be aware that I started playing these games close to 30 years ago, building my own PCs twenty five years ago, and discussing them (games and PCs) on forums not seriously different from those in here, about 20 years ago.

Gorath we know each-other from the DLC form and I don't have a bad attitude. I am simply having a problem getting Awakening to install and have done most everything and your criticism. I take with pride. And we both have been doing those things for the same amount of time. Thanks for the correct feed back.
Problem is this I am using Orgin to install awakening. It has installed many times before with no issue. I have never had this problem before with the game at all.
First issue is this I got a failed install after I was having a problem with patches 1.4 and 1.5 the game was acting like a cross between the two patches. I ran the patches again twice. The female was loosing her inventory but that problem was fixed in the 1.5 patch. So for some reason the patch did not take or was not working correctly.
Next I uninstalled the game with revo and deleted all the registry files associated with DAO which was extensive unusual because the game uninstall should have removed most of those registry files and only a few left which happened on the last uninstall. This seems correct on the last uninstall.
I reinstalled the program and ran awakening the first time I got a failed install with Orgin in vista mode, because of the resent alert from bioware to run Orgin in vista mode. Next I downloaded it twice and got just a warning sign with a Ok button.
On the next uninstall and reinstall I got an install and it showed installed on Orign but not in the game and it did not show up with the other DLC like witch hunt as a side playable.
I checked the install file if the Dragon Age folder and it is there just on a hunch I checked to compatibility. It showed vista.
I launched the install for awakening from the folder three times before checking the capability. First time got failed install. second time it tried to install and started writing the files to the CMD box or Dos however you wish to refer to it since we been on computers for along time. Got a failed install at the end of that.
Ever since, it shows installed in Orgin and is not installed. I change the compatibility twice once to XP SP2 and to no compatibility mode. It continues to do the same thing. shows installed in Orgin and is not installed in the game. I am temped at this point to run it again from the folder using non compatibility mode but I am frustrated at this point since it has worked several times before and installed correctly.
I also applied the 1.5 patch once after installing DAO to try and get awakening to install but that was without sucess.
I hope this will help someone figure it out but mostly Gorath you will have an answer I can try.

Oh one more thing using the DAO disk it did not request a keycode on installation so I suspect some place there is a registry entry with the keycode in it that revo is missing or on manual uninstall was missed.

Gee it is so hard to remember everything. Getting too old. awakening does not give the two selections when you try and start a new game just goes as if DAO is installed so there is no selection for awakening.

I tried the fixes you guys recommended and still awakening is not installing. I guess the one post about the disk purchase is the only option at this point. Since none of the others worked and a clean boot did not work either I have not tried safe boot and install that way the only other choice left to me for Awakening install.

OK I found the problem quite by accident I ran setup in compatibility mode from the DAO disk. Problem with system is net frame work 4.0 is installed Net Framework 3.5 got uninstalled some how I don't understand how. It was installed 3.5 is suppose to install netframe work 1.0,2.0 and up to 3.5. Since I am a MS tech licensed and on the Tech Net form I understand .Net Framework. However .Net Frame work 3.5 does not always install the .Net Framework for 1.0, 2.0 as is should and there is a verification tool on MS Technet site for this to be verified. You can install them one at a time, but 3.5 does not always install them correctly. DAO requires .Net Frame work version 2.0 and 3.5 to run. .Net Frame work 4.0 is the latest version and should be installed on current MS Operating systems.recommended by all MS Tech's. .Net Frame work 4.0 does not install versions 1.0, 2.0 or 3.5. I think because of the problem with 3.5 installing the lower versions unsuccessfully or intermittently. Anyway if your having a similar problem with installing Awakening and DAO installs. Check the .Net Framework versions installed and use the verification tool on the MS Tech Net site to verify 1.0, 2.0, and 3.5 are all installed correctly.
Symptoms of the Problem Noted Origin Thinks Awakening is installed correctly and it is not installed. Will install the digital download of DOA but will not install Awakening. Awakening will give an error install or a warning sign (like a traffic warning sign with an ! on the sign) with only a OK button for you to select. After you get the warning signs the first few times, Awakening will install and not give you an error warning. Origins will think it is installed but when you launch it Awakening is not installed.

The simplest of scans through the archives, or even a look at the original documentation would have answered this. Start the game from the second, Awakening disk, now.
