So I am told, and read on other threads, that we will be able to put forth our companions through the joining and make them into Grey Wardens. Now, here are my questions:

1) Can we make certain party members go through the joinging, like choose who we want, or do they all have to go through the ritual?

2) Is there a way we can make all of our party members survive the Joining ritual? I am told that Mhairi dies no matter what...

Oh and plus this bonus cause I love this franchise too!

You don't get a choice with mhari. Anders is going to be arrested and you have to conscript him. There 3 choices with him, conscript, tell alister to have mercy, and let him get arrested. I believe you're given a choice of refusing to let oghdren do the joining but I didn't go down that dialogue path. But yeah mhari died. Maybe if you let anders get arrested mhari could live because you'll be out a character? Would be cool but I don't know.

What about the other characters then? Anders, Oghren, Justice, Velanna, Nathaniel?

Any of them survive?

Lots of people don't have the expansion yet..so just saying..due to the questions you are asking people are going to be tempted to post spoilers in your thread.

They'll all survive if you put them through it, but you can keep them in your party without ever making them go through with the Joining if you so choose.

*SPOILERS*

Confirmed Mhairi death even if you tell Ogren he cant join and give Anders over to the Templars. I dont belive Mhairi can survive the Joining. I could be wroung but a certain animation tells me shes a temp companion. They never remove her helmet in sequences like they do other (Main) characters.

Its been stated that Mhairi is just there as atemp companion like your origen stories to help you get through the initial scenarios. I know quite a few Warden builds that wouldnt do so well without her help particularly as a tank.

As for the other characters, they all survive (Ogrens is humourous) I have yet to hear about someone losing one of the other characters this way.

bioware is so misleading, they make a character trailer for a chick who dies an hour into the game. unlike other temporary companions in origins, she actually can get experience and approval/disapproval

We were trolled. That's all there is to it.

I'd admire BioWare's audacity if not for the fact that they had to do it with the only warrior companion in Awakening I actually liked, so if I don't play a warrior my only choices to balance out my team are a drunk dwarf I barely tolerate and some utter freak from Dimension X.

Yeah. I'll just hold out for a Mhairi companion mod thanks.

Obviously.
Perhaps people just don't like Justice?
I sure as hell don't, hence my freak comment.

Well if they didn't then no one would be surprised when she died. I don't think there is any way that Mhairi could survive the Joining. Whether they can survive or not depends on the strength of their immune systems and ability to withstand the taint. It's speculatd when Oghren can still talk after Joining that being a heavy drinker could help since your body already processes lots of toxins.

Unless they were going to be really cheap, your actions should not affect whether Mhairi can handle the taint. She likes you a little, dislikes you a little, or is neutral? In Origins you can hate Duncan for conscripting you, love him for saving you and/or getting you out of the hellhole you started in, or not really care one way or another and you still live. Oghren and/or Anders also become Wardens? True she doesn't like them, but chances are you don't like either Daveth or Ser Jory - or both - and you survive just fine.

I don't really get all this Mhairi love anyway. All she does is swear vengeance on the guy who killed Roland or whoever he was and disapprove of Oghren and Anders. She might have been okay with allowing Sigrun into the Wardens, but she would have freaked out about Justice and Velanna, too. She was really far too uptight and by-the-book to really be a Warden.

Oghren is a Dwarf after all, a very hearty race by nature and also one much more exposed to Darkspawn overall.

It's not much of a surprise he can take it, really.

If you refuse, Anora (and I'm assuming Alistair if he shows up) offers Oghren a place in the army and Oghren leaves forever. It's odd, because I assumed that if you let him go like that, he'd have something like Howe does if you don't conscript him or hang him on the spot.

Doesn't Oghren ALREADY have a place in the army? Or at least he did before he ran off to jon the army. I think the reason Oghren doesn't come back and Nathaniel does is because Nathaniel really doen't have anywhere else to go or any other options and Oghren always has the army. Besides, since Nathaniel is the son of a man who screwed you and Ferelden over quite a few times and admitted to coming to the Keep to kill you, it's understandable why you'd have reservations about having him join you even if you sympathize enough not to have him killed. Oghren went on your first adventure with you and if you hooked him up with Felsi you obviously were good enough friends. When you deny him the opportunity to fight with you again...I can see why he wouldn't come back begging you to reconsider.

If nobady died in the Joining they should have cut it out of the game since it would be worthless, i do hate that the girl dies, but its not like u have a shortage on good companions...

But i agree that Oghren is't my favorite char in this game... i like Nathanriel alot since he's in the position like u were in the original campaign, and its fun to see it from another persective, besides, he's one hell of an archer!!

I don't like Oghren in Origins and he's dambable surley in Awakenings. I was VERY disappointed when Mheiri died in the joining. VERY. I haven't met Justice yet, but will NOT let him join the party if I have a choice in dialogue. That means Oggie is my only choice for a tank :P

I agree with you but still I'd rather hang out with Mhairi most of the time, because she is a "True Female Warrior", something that (in my opinion) DA universe seriously lacks. Unless you play as one, all of them have very short life span and die tragically\\unnaturaly at some point in future (either in games or books). And Dual-wielding female rouges are just not the same...

Sounds like a certain other companion of ours, one who happens to be the overwhelming fan favorite...

I wish they'd been more innovative with it,
like killing one companion at random or based on some unseen variable...

Look i don't care what all of you say oghren might be a drunk but he's a fuccking funny drunk, besides it dose not matter what other warrior you have in the party you can always redistribute their skills with a tomb of focus
