So if you wish to troll and flame, go ahead, but do it for the right reasons (and at least some skill and imagination would be appreciated, I prefer clever, quality trolling)
I browsed through people's opinions on Awakening. I found Nemesis7884's review to be especially helpful in forming something close to an "educated" opinion.
What I read does not fill me with much hope for a product I would enjoy.
Add to that the fact that the majority of the teaser information we had gotten so far from Bioware had left me completly cold. I viewed everything but the first trailer and the Sigrun trailer with mild indiference at best.
From the short character trailers, I did not get the impression that Awakening lives up to the quality of Dragon Age. Oh, but a trailer is too short to form a real opinion -sure, but it's supposed to give you enough information to get excited about it. Still this discussion has been done to death and we know one side wont convince the other.
And I was willing to give the expansion the benefit of the doubt. After all, I was curious to see how the story unfolds from here.
But the real reason I finally decided to cancel the pre-order is patch 1.03.
Or bug 1.03, as that thing can't honestly be called a patch.
After a week now, I would have hoped for at least a simple aknowledgment on the lines of "we are aware of the problems and are working on them". Just get thrown a little bone to give the consumer in me an excuse to purchase.
As hectic as things are, this close to release, a small platitude is not too much to ask.
As hectic as things are, it's why companies have staff with "community" in their job description.
So since this is the last day before amazon uk estimates shipping the box, I guess I'll stop waiting for an excuse to purchase.
Done!

I wasn't aware of that simply because my game is running (and very well, thank you) on the old patch. Bummer, but I'm glad I read this post. I was going to patch it to 1.03 when I got home. I think I better not, although I'm sorry that I am wiser because others got a bug-inducing patch.

I just hope DA 2 is good, cause judging from the feedback on awakening and ofc dlc, bioware shouldn't mess around with stuff like that anymore, and just focus on giving us proper full rpg's like they use to.

I myself will still get the game but i will be playing one of my less favored charecters for the simple fact i dont want my faveroit spoilt by lag and bugs, hopefully it isnt as bad as some people say but we will see.
Shame you wont be buying the game just yet but hope they improve the game to suite your needs in the next patch which most likely wont take that long, In terms of the charecters they are adding however i see them not as copies of the origins group however there will always be similarities between charecters. Though i must say i think i will like oghren alot more now i had a sneak peak into the start bit, leave me at a bit of a loss as i originaly planned to have 2 mages and 1 rogue in my party over my normal 2 warriors >.>

I see your point but...

- Was unhappy with the decisions to not bring back Zev and Lel
- Was unhappy with no-romance
- Didn't get good vibes from early previews
I was simply waiting to see more reviews to make final decision, but considered the likelyhood of buying to be high. The patch changed all that for me. I'm simply not going to play a game that crashes to the desktop or where stealing is broken. Just MHO, but it looks to me like this patch was rushed out the door to meet the release date for Awakening. The total lack of offical comment on the patch issues really leaves me cold.

Edit: I just browsed it after I posted and I can see the problems. I had never picked pocketed before but I did it as Zev in my new game. I was wondering what was up with not getting anything and now I know. Thanks for the heads up because I wasn't paying attention to that at all.

"A fan favourite"... REALLY? Have you been reading the forums, Bioware? *rolleyes* :-)
That, added to another 20 things on how they won't listen to what fans say.
But who cares, I'll play it anyways in the end. :-p :-)

It's not how these threads usually go.
But like many others I do believe a non-purchase by itself is not enough feedback, so these threads have their use.
So:
Thanks!

Oh well, because I never planned on getting the xpac any time soon, I'll just pass on the patch. Oh boy, that reminds of a disappointed friend. He waited so long and patiently for a game - SimCity Societies - and when the totally overpriced game came out, it was so bugged that it was unplayable.
Granted, it was the game that was so full of bugs it made you cringe not a patch, but game or patch, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.
