I just love the expense issue being brought up, first run through for me was 29 hours which is a $1.34 US per hour. That is without considering the next few times that I will want to play through it. Much cheaper than a movie at a theater and don't even start me complaining about concerts.

Please folks, no fighting here.

To me, gaming (and movies, books, most recreation actually) always comes down to value for my dollar. Am I going to get good value for what they expect me to spend. If I think I will get my money's worth out of a product, I will purchase it. If I don't, I won't. I have bought games that take a long time, but I didn't really have fun (like Oblivion). I regret those. I've also bought short games that didn't take a long time, but were a blast to play (like God of War or Arkham Asylum) and I think I got my moneys worth or more.

We think that there is great value in Dragon Age: Origins Awakening. Depending on what you choose to do, there is anywhere from 10-30+ hours oif game play your first time through. Hopefully, you will also want to replay with otehr characters, new classes, etc which adds to the value. The team has not "rushed" this out as it has been in developement since before the launch of DA:O back in October (keep in mind we have multiple teams working at once) and I think they've done a great job.

Still, at the end of the day, it is up to each person to choose whether or not the value is there for them. Hopefully they will come to think it is, purchase, play and enjoy Dragon Age: Origins Awakening as we know it is a great game. :)

A lot of people feel ripped off not because they don't think they bought a good game, but rather because they feel they paid too much for an expansion pack which should always be discounted greatly compared to the original game.

The fact that you need to purchase the original game to even play it means it should have been priced lower as "additional content" rather than priced like a full game which is what happened.

I did enjoy Awakening, but I do feel like I spent way too much and I will definitely wait awhile for the price to come down when any new expansions come out.

P.S.  If it wasn't rushed, then why are there so many bugs?  Game-ending bugs at that.  I know some bugs are expected given that everyone has different systems, specs, etc. but sheesh.  Thank god I saved shortly before entering the silverrite mines.

Haters will complain that Awakenings is "only" 20-30 hours long but they will gladly pay $60 for a 7 hour single player game like Bioshock 2 or God of War...  it's hater "logic"

I love how on video game forums (or anywhere else on the internet) that people feel you aren't entitled to complain about things you dislike.

It's truly funny.

EVERYONE SHOULD LOVE EVERYTHING AND KEEP ALL THEIR NEGATIVE THOUGHTS TO THEMSELVES!!!!1!!!one!!

We need more realists on here.

People have opinions on the game and they are going to make them. Why fanboys (scum of the Earth) blindly defend everything is beyond comprehension. Even if they know it's mediocre they feel the need to defend it like its their child or something. A bit sad.

If Bioware really had to cut corners, do you really think they would have cut romance given how insanely popular it is? It was done intentionally, not removed at the last minute.

Also, I would like to recommend this book:

There is a difference between constructive criticism/analysis and throwing a tantrum like a toddler.

Acceptable:

I. Description and analysis of problems/issues
a. Opportunity cost of those issues
b. Comparison to present alternatives
c. Future alternatives and suggestions
d. Open discussion

Not Acceptable:
DA:A SUCKS! [insert lone, weak argument or allusion here]

Your pretension is almost as bad as said whining.

People were having a discussion. But then you see the random idiots coming in and leaving the usual "Stop whining" comments. Hardly anyone was simply saying "Dragon Age sucks!!" I read through most of the pages.

Did you see me joining in that discussion? I was obviously referring to the OP. We get this at the ME forum all the time and RARELY is it different so in some cases some people may become antsy and post anti-whining sentiments. These types of threads are started by people who have hastily generalized issues in the game and throw in one to two arguments with little grounding or analysis, mainly supplemented by, "but it wasn't what I prefer!"

OP says:

Bioware loses major brownie points with me on this and ive been a fan of this companie for a very long time. Its starting to be all about the money now - screw the fans. EA is rubbing off on them. I refuse to purchase this crap id rather remake it my damn self with the toolset.

TAKE THE TIME TO MAKE IT RIGHT DONT RELEASE UNFINISHED GARBAGE TO YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS

Did you miss that? Perhaps I should have quoted the OP directly?

His first point is refuted by referencing the trend of BW's expansion packs in NWN 1 and 2 which had almost no relation to the OC.

Second point full of his condescending opinions and how he can do better than BW.

The rest is tantrum throwing.

If the community got together and made a team of say 5-10 people they could recreate this entire expansion in the same time it took bioware to put this together.

Do you know how much "time it took bioware to put this together"? The effort and skill required to produce an expansion of this high caliber is enourmous! I seriously doubt any group of 5-10 fan modders could do as good a job even with 12 months or more to work on it.

I don't care about the OP. He made a general statement and then I started reading some of the responses. Some of them did elaborate and that is who I was paying attention to. But not everyone has the time or patience to write a big tl;dr wall of text about why they dislike certain features in a game. To them it seems pretty obvious, and they assume others feel the same.

I do in some regards... but again, I don't have the time to go into it at the moment.

Besides, the original point in my post is that I hate all anti-whining sentiments EVERYWHERE on the internet. It's pointless to leave them. Not only are people going to ignore it, they shouldn't have to listen to it anyway. Not everyone is going to love absolutely everything. And not everyone has the capacity to be able to reiterate the reasons on why they dislike something so much. You have your expectations set a bit high I think. :/

The point was that I was referring to the OP. What you did was that you assumed that I, and everyone else who had a similar comment, used "stop whining" as an umbrella statement that included all forms of criticism, including productive ones. What you were paying attention to is irrelevant. You attacked my comment which was in response to the OP. That was the situation.

Low level criticism like that of the OP is irritating and irritatingly ubiquitous. The start of the discussion was unavoidably veiled by crude negativity. Not all constructive posts must be long. Only a few points are fine, as long as the arguments are concise and well-thought out. Had he done this I would have responded constructively instead of brushing him off. If you're going to take the time to create a thread about a controversial topic, at least know what you're getting into. If you don't have the time to think it through, don't bother starting the thread. Post in some existing one. This is why "anti-whining" exists. You don't see anti-whining in the earnest versions of these types of threads.

Of course not everyone will love everything but again, how you approach what you dislike is key. Nobody wants to listen to whining. Objective criticism, however, sparks productive discussion. Yeah, my expectations are probably a bit high, but if the OP took the time to create the thread, he could have at least thought it through. Half-assing it serves no one.
