If you are in the same boat as me submit this command in command line: "C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\BioWare\\saferun.exe" "H:\\data\\DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.exe" /addins="BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Settings\\addins.xml" /manifest="D:\\Dragon Age\\addins\\dao_prc_ep_1\\manifest.xml" while logged as user you use for playing (note: you'll have to correct drive letters and maybe paths).

"Error opening file for writing
B:\\Users\\Frank\\Documents"
It seems it isn't fully updating my Dragon Age, unfortunately I can't seem to get your instructions to work. I moved around the paths to correspond with mine, but when I plug it into CMD nothing happens. Need I the quotes? Is it all one big spiel or separate commands?

We are currently trying to diagnose what's going on in this thread:
http://social.biowar...8/index/1721221
I say "we", it's not like I work for Bioware or anything, it just happened to me and I was unable to explain it so I felt like coming back to the boards to tell people what was up.
(So far the solution has been to run the setup.exe in Windows 2000 compatibility mode)

I had the same issue and it took me some time to resolve it - did you install it under same user as you use for playing the game? Because silly BioWare probably suppose that those users will be same all the time (c'mon BioWare! It's 21st century - not all of us are playing as Administrators!)
If you are in the same boat as me submit this command in command line: "C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Common Files\\\\BioWare\\\\saferun.exe" "H:\\\\data\\\\DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.exe" /addins="BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\Settings\\\\addins.xml" /manifest="D:\\\\Dragon Age\\\\addins\\\\dao_prc_ep_1\\\\manifest.xml" while logged as user you use for playing (note: you'll have to correct drive letters and maybe paths).
where would this be located on the steam version?

Aha! I have it working Wooo!!!
His instructions didn't seem to work as he put them, but they were close enough to steer me in the right direction. I dropped the first section and it worked. So here is how to do.
Open up Word
Paste the following into word
"E:\\data\\DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.exe" /addins="BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Settings\\addins.xml" /manifest="I:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\addins\\dao_prc_ep_1\\manifest.xml"
Now, change this accordingly to your own drives.
E=My DVD drive, Put whatever your DVD drive is.
I:\\Games = my location for Dragon age, insert your own path to it
With the modifications, copy this text. Open up CMD, right click in it, press paste, enter if need be. The Addon installer will run succesfully. With any luck you can now boot up Dragon Age and select Awakening!
PS. This board tend to double the number of "\\". If you see two \\ in a row instead of one, simply make sure it's only one, as folder paths should be.

asdsdasdasd: The quotes are necessary if there is some space in path and yes it's only one command but I doubt a little that your drive letter is correct - is it really B:? That letter is used for second FDD and I actually never saw it in use...
Gantheral500: Sorry, I don't know anything about Steam and its paths. In fact I don't even know if Steam version use DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.exe.
Yeah, My windows is actually B. Don't ask, Im very aware how odd it is. Also, the first section which points to the Saferun.exe simply did not work. I re-pointed it to the location on my HD(In Program files (x86) instead) but the command simply did not run when it was there, after taking it out it was fixed!

I was having the same issue earlier until I found this thread, which was most informative and your solution worked for me, thanks.

In either case, if you install Both DAO and DAA now, they would of course use the same user, which would solve the issue too.

For me, "I:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\
Is where my dragon age is installed. If say your dragon age is installed at uhh, C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age than put that instead. It's that simple.
Basicly you need to know the location of your disk and of your dragon age installation folder, and change it accordingly.
If you don't understand how a file path works, I will explain.
Say you go to My Computer. From there, you open up your HardDrive. It will have a Label/name and a Letter. Usual Drives go C than next drive would be D than E and so on.
Anyway, so you go to my computer, click on Drive C (Windows), Than you open up the Program files Folder, than you open up Dragon Age Folder, Than you open up Bin_Ship folder.
So now your in Bin_Ship, and to know the path, just retrace your steps. So it would be C:\\Program files\\Dragon Age\\Bin_ship
Simple. It goes Drive \\ folder \\folder \\ etc. If you need more help, than please try and locate the files in the command I listed earlier. I will write you a new command.

Just to follow up, I patched my game to 1.03 and it still works fine. I suspect that my issue was caused by the fact that I didn't have the latest DirectX installed, and had to upgrade after I installed. Does this ring bells with anyone?

Maybe it's not related, but maybe there was some extension that did not install correctly because I didn't have the necessary Dx11 to define it. Maybe, it's the only other quirk I can think of with my install.

Here is the command I used:
"C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Common Files\\\\BioWare\\\\saferun.exe" "C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Steam\\\\steamapps\\\\common\\\\dragon age origins\\\\redist\\\\DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.exe" /addins="BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\Settings\\\\addins.xml" /manifest="C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Steam\\\\steamapps\\\\common\\\\dragon age origins\\\\addins\\\\dao_prc_ep_1\\\\manifest.xml"

When I try to play Awakening I am taken to the vanilla DA:O main menu and cannot seem to access any Awakening content. "Other Campaigns" is grayed out, and the Downloadable Content page has nothing new. Playing a game past the vanilla ending does not yield a new path to Awakening content either (eg: loading up a game just before you finished it, and then finishing the playthrough to the "end").
Whenever I launch DA:A, it will tell me it's is "Launching Dragon Age: Origins Awakening..." then that window will close and a new one will open saying "Launching Dragon Age: Origins..." I don't know if that has anything to do with the issue.
When I ran saferun.exe (after running DAO_UpdateAddinsXml_Steam.exe) nothing happened, but I think I was missing a step.
Edit: Nevermind. I think I figured it out.

Thank you Lancer347 asdsdasdasd and beertje1 , I got it work to now I'm just having a problem with it crashing to desktop with a microsoft reporting error, also I don't why other threads people keep saying it has something to do with the user account control. I don't see what they really changed from the orginal to the expansion that would cause me to have to turn off my user accout control just to play the game, and even then it still crashes to desktop.
