Has anyone used Runecrafting in Awakening yet?

Yes. So far at Tier 2 (Improved Runecrafting).

Tier 1 - up to Journeyman

Tier 2 - up to Expert

Basically need 1 Novice rune and an ingredient... to make a Journeyman rune.... 2 journeymans to make an expert with ingredients... and so on...

There are special defense runes which combine a weapon rune and a defense rune to make. So far haven't needed anything like frostrocks etc. to make a rune.

All can be purchased from the Mage NPC at your HQ. Dunno if the NPC is available if you give the Mage Tower to the Templars in the 1st game. If you don't have runecrafting - you have to exit the Main keep to use it.

The main problem is in the amount of skill points you can distribute. There's a skill that allows you to increase stamina/mana and another to increase health. So you may be thinking twice about maxing this skill early.

Can you move Rune from item to a differing one like we could DAO?

Indeed, it's the same as in DA:O!

I'm really happy with that!

I love DA:O + DA:A

I like the new system, but ehhhh -- it would be fine if every single rune didn't take up a backpack slot. I would love it if 5 runes of the same type took up 1 slot instead of 5 slots.

Also, dunno, but the hale and dweomer runes should be armor runes, and the amplification rune should be a weapon rune. Also, would be cool if the "special" runes were tiered. They'd be overpowered with 7 tiers, but maybe they could have 3-5.

I have a question about where to find tracings, but I'll do that in another thread.

You know, it also would be cooler if Sera sold something more than just the Novice of every type.

Go ahead, charge me an arm & a leg for the higher tiered runes, but it would be nice if we didn't have to Runecraft everything starting from "scratch" (i.e. Novice --> tiers 2-7) if we want to make a higher level rune.

Someone should make a rune merchant mod that sells all the tracings, and all the base runes. I'd use it. Oh and in your rune mod make every STACK of runes of the same type take 1 inventory slot!

The threads seem to get bumped down more slowly here, so I'll ask in this one also.

a) where do you find Momentum, Elemental, and Diligence rune tracings?

B) where do you find the Masterpiece and Paragon rune tracings?

a) Shops in Amaranthine city

B) Mostly looted on missions. Couldn't tell you which ones

You find many of the rune tracings while questing, particularly when you go back into the deep roads. The rest you can buy off of the vendors. I'm at Tier 4 and it's a pain from a resource standpoint because it takes alot of runes to get to one grandmaster, successively through each level, and then like 2 grands for 1 masterpiece. It's mainly worth it for the defensive runes. +1 extra dmg won't mean much by the time you're level 28-30, because you'll have respecced by then and reallocated your points where they absolutely should be and you'll be pretty much in demi-god mode even on Nightmarish.

I spent about an hour just making Runes and re - calibrating my party tonight. I actually enjoy this aspect of the game, and probably why I am at 31 hours with just the Disco Dragon and end game to go.

It seems that once you get Dweomer to masterpiece/paragon it turns into an armour rune :(

It is quite so very tedious...especially when your PC doesn't have the skill.

Dunno ... if the other skills were like Runecrafting ...

... you'd have to use lesser health poultices to make health poultices ... then those to make greater ... etc. tier 1 poison to make tier 2 poison, then tier 2 to make tier 3 ... small traps to make medium traps, then medium to make large ...

it's the only skill that forces you to "chain" up things that way.And AFAICT you're not finding a huge number of the higher level runes (you can bring some of the weapon ones from Origins, but not the armor ones, obviously) to MAKE the higher level runes you always have to start with Novice from Sera and work tediously upward ...

This is the first skill I'm hoping somebody writes a skill mod for.

I made Oghden the rune master. It's not difficult at all, other than the fact runes don't stack for inventory space.

It takes 8 novice runes to make a grand master rune, voila, easy.

1 novice = 1 journeyman

2 novice = 1 expert

4 novice = 1 master

8 novice = grandmaster

It's just some pretty basic math to figure out what you need and it's very quick. I do wish they listed the recipes by type rather than the random system they seem to use at present.

Of course, the game is very easy even on nightmare without any runes in your gear, so it's a little OP to max out with grandmaster runes.

You make it sound so much harder than it really is, basically, you only need one component apart from the runes itself (think it's etching acid or something).

You make the Journeyman Rune (as you can buy Novice), then to make Expert, you need 2 Joureyman and 2 of the Etching component. And so it goes, 2 of the lesser rune and two of the Etching component.

Not really a mod needed for it, there's no wait time in order to make them, just buy a tons of blank runes and etching comonent, then gogo make. Stop being lazy ^^

I loved the armor runes.*chuckles* I stacked everyones tunic with GM +10 con runes(30 extra con makes a diffrence)I could have gone higher sure, but didnt see a point.

Most masterpiece/paragon runes are scattered throughout the various dungeons. The vendor across from the runecrafter lady gets one or two sets after you complete all three location missions.None of them seemed particularly hard to find or get,so long as you explored everywhere.

Yes,I would like a sort feature for the crafting lists too...As it is,they show up in the order you find them.

I could do with a little help here. Yeah, I know... but I'm no noob. I just don't get how you make runes to begin with. I've seen Sera's rune tracings, so I guess you need one of them, but then what? Someone posting above mentions etching acid? And how/where do you craft the rune?

Thanks in advance...

like you craft traps or poisons, you click on the runecrafting icon and the craft menu pops up, tracing are recipes and lessers runes + other suffs are base materials.

What are the best Armor Runes? I havent messed with this much. Guessing the Weapons Runes are the same. What are the next tiers after Grandmaster?

]You make it sound so much harder than it really is,

It's not "hard" as in difficult to figure out or do, no, that's not my point.

Just tedious. I think adding to the tedium is that again every rune takes up 1 inventory slot. I think it would be less tedious if Sera sold something other than novice runes. Why doesn't she get upgraded also just like the other merchant? By the end of the game she should also be selling GM runes so that to make Masterpiece and Paragon you don't have to "start" with Novice, you can start with GM.

Also adding to the tedium is the disorganization of the crafting menu, since you have to make the tiers in order, it would be nice if the tiers appeared in order on the crafting menu, they don't. Oh, and as some have complained, some of the tracings don't explain what the rune is actually supposed to do, either. (Good thing there's wikis and guides.)

And then finally there's the bugs, the problems that are not by design ... like BTW some "chains" having missing elements (so you can't go from Novice to Paragon because something is "missing" on the way), or some runes switching from armor to weapon when they shouldn't (like Silverite).

And again my last nitpicky thing ... personally were I doing the runecrafting system, I would make dweomer and hale runes armor runes by design, and amplification runes weapon runes, by design. I also would tier some of the specials/combo runes, maybe not with 7 tiers, but with 3-5.

Oh and add to the "bork/bug" list -- nobody sells Barrier runes, and you never ever seem to find more than one, ever. So so much for making any higher level ones.

(See a thread in the subforum above this one).

This is a great system, if they change the mechanics a bit, and debork it for the next sequel/expac.

P.S. I know this remains my pet peeve, but why do I need Detailed Tooltips mod to understand what something "really" does, and that includes runes.

Do runes stack? When a rune increases attack speed (momentum), by how much, and does it stack with other effects/runes? Currently unknown.
