We've all had those moments:  You either finish a game or get a good chunk of the way into it and then find out there was something you didn't know about that could've made everything so much easier-simpler-more fun and you're just left feeling like a complete idiot for not knowing it before that moment.

I had such a moment 2 days ago.  So, I figured I'd make this thread, and see who else falls into this area.  Post your own "D'oh!  Wish I'd known (insert something here) sooner!".  Anyways, here's mine:

I sat there for almost 1 complete play through on one character, several partial play throughs on 2 other characters and a 50% play through on my current guy, without knowing (on the PC) that if you hit the TAB key, if showed you everything that was clickable.  All those things that cost me insane amounts of time due to a bit of OCD on my part (seriously, according to Steam, I've logged over 120 hours into all my play sessions of DA:O) trying to get every codex/exp goodie possible.

So yes...the TAB key is my "D'oh!" moment.  What's yours?

The fact that you can compare items in a store to different characters by using the drop-down menu at the bottom of the list. I kept talking to a shopkeeper with a different character to compare all the options :-/ I think I made it through 60% of the game before I realized I could do that...

Darn that snake oil dealer! I didn't even persuade him into giving 2 G for resquing him the first couple of times. One thing is that you might want to temporarily sell stuff to him the first time you see them due to the inventory size, just to notice, they're gone the next time.

Methinks, he gives a discount at least compared to his prizes later in the game. I don't know, if it's related to finding out his backstory (needs coercion 2, I think).

That you have an unlimited supply of ordinary arrows. For half of my first playthrough, I kept looking for a merchant who would sell them. :(

(SPOILER) The fact that Mhairi dies in the beginning of Awakening (had I known, I would've gone back and taken her armor and weapons, which is what I did to the other 2 recruits from the beginning of origins).

That using the dpad in the 360 version highlights stuff. I could have blown up a lot more characters if I had known that three playthroughs ago. >:|

Playing a AW now and figured out a couple things:

> Mages can queue up their spells by hitting one hotkey after another (ie 2=Cold, 3=StoneFist, 4=Lightning); I press 2-3-4 successively and all 3 spells are cast one after another without pause. Faster than they can swing a sword.

> AW can cast spells before drawing their sword animation kicks in. Usually, I cast Fireball then follow in with swords drawn.

When in Camp, look at the character's stats and on the right hand page near the bottom is a "Level Up" button that is enabled if that character can be leveled up.  D'oh!1

This isn't as bad as some of the howlers that you guys are listing, but mine was discovering that level 4 Coercion and lockpicking weren't needed if you have a high enough Cunning.

That you can't carry over any custom downloaded items to Awakening. My dwarf started her new adventure by punching out darkspawn. Good thing her armor wasn't custom.

You get her stuff back automatically -- even if it puts you over your inventory limit.

My doh! moment was when I realized I should have bought DA:O for the computer. Because of my silly desire to support a system I had such wonderful times with before I had to wait a month longer than everyone else for RtO, I get no mods, less support, clunkier controls, long ass load times, less camera control...okay now I'm ranting so I'll stop. Even though I still totally enjoy the game, I just feel stupid that I COULD have gotten it for my shiny new computer and potentially had less frustration.

Others include leaving sten to die in Lothering.

Bringing a romanced alistair with me to kill the archdemon (seriously unexpected! I cried and then went back and made him sleep with morrigan. Ugh,,,hard choices....)

realizing that other conversations and quests open up with approval ratings.

Ditto on the tab key.

Ditto on the leveling up in camp.

Did NOT know about Bodahn's prices until this post.

I knew I could remap keys, but didn't think to remap the ones that switch weapons sets and toggle run/walk until I'd played hours and hours. They're now more conveniently placed. (I'm a touch typist, and I want all mapped keys under my left hand while the right hand uses the mouse.)

It took me a few play throughs before I realized I didn't have to deal with the money grubbing Chantry matron to get Sten. Boy did I feel stupid when I finally tried to just unlock the cage and it worked.

For each playthrough I persuade him to tell my PC's about his past and he offer discount later on. I don't realize he won't offer discount if the backstory is not told.

Add me to the TAB list. I didn't know until my third playthrough.

I didn't know about hardening. Luckily I listened to Alistair and didn't make him King, so I avoided some heartache there lol
