Dr. Wynne Medicine Woman!

Ha!

Oh, and how do you switch party members without returning to camp?

Edit: Huh, there's a Change Party button.

My doh! moment was when I realized I should have bought DA:O for the computer. Because of my silly desire to support a system I had such wonderful times with before I had to wait a month longer than everyone else for RtO, I get no mods, less support, clunkier controls, long ass load times, less camera control...okay now I'm ranting so I'll stop. Even though I still totally enjoy the game, I just feel stupid that I COULD have gotten it for my shiny new computer and potentially had less frustration.

Others include leaving sten to die in Lothering.

Bringing a romanced alistair with me to kill the archdemon (seriously unexpected! I cried and then went back and made him sleep with morrigan. Ugh,,,hard choices....)

realizing that other conversations and quests open up with approval ratings.

That was mine too....I just sat there staring at the screen thinking wtf?????  I *knew* Riordan said one of us would die.  I saw him die, so it stood to reason that either Alistair or my warden would die....But I kept hoping right up until Alistair stepped in to take the final blow that somehow Riordan would miraculously reappear and do it instead.  Now when I play I always make him do the DR and I just turn off the monitor until that part is over. lol

You don't need to turn off the monitor, hit the Esc key quickly then you won't have to see anything.  There is a way to avoid the DR and keep Alistair if you don't mind using a console cheat, but you will have to leave him at the gate.  I've done it once and the end was quite funny when he askes how you survived and you can say 'you don't want to know'.

In the party camp you don't have to go to the exit to leave. If you click on the 'party' button once you've selected your party you'll automatically leave.

I wish I knew Justice, the Tank character for Awakening was in the blackmarshes...Did the Blackmarshes quest LAST, so I had NO tank for my Archer Rogue Warden.

I wish I knew the Qunari's sword gift was for Sten, I gave it to Morrigan and I had to get it the long way by getting that dwarf to give it to me.

I wish I'd known sooner that not asking for money doesnt give you any "Good-guy points".

I wish I'd known sooner that I could pickpocket from people.

I wish I had known that:

Cone of Cold stops overwhelm.

That Mana clash was the I win again button!

That Ser Cauthrian follows you alone, in the arls estate so you can kill her easier.

Taking Morrigan to Redcliffe and saving it is a very dumb thing to do.

You can use number keys to activate talents, not just click on them.

I didn't know Wynne was a potential party member the first time I played... so I killed her. Once I recruited her, it took me several playthroughs to discover she has a special ability unlocked by travelling with her. Darn it.

Be careful with this one !!! I thought this until I decided that THIS time she dies.  I was used to having 2-3 others follow her, but this time the usual 2-3 came along and then when she had about 25% left on her life bar all the others followed, I was fighting her in the library and fortunately they stayed outside.  I shut the door because the mage was with them and they were all archers, they didn't attempt to enter so I finished her off and then had to go out and sort that lot out as well.

--- Party members can craft poisons, potions, and traps... and come with level 1 of their specialty when you recruit them..
Morrigan even told me she could make poisons, and I saw the options on the level up screens, but kept putting 2 and 2 together and getting ZERO[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/crying.png[/smilie][smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/crying.png[/smilie]
5 plays of wasted XP on my Warden (double forehead slap**)

I recently received a new monitor which required me to alter the standard Screen Resolutions; both on the monitor, and in the game. My new settings increased my Quickbar spaces; almost doubled which helps my Mages a grunch....

Hmmm...let's see, where to start...well I JUST found out about the TAB thing. On my first playthrough I totally missed Leliana, pissed off Morrigan, killed Wynne and died 7 times fighting the Archdemon before realizing that you can use the ballistas to shoot at it...oh and also didn't realize that you had to recall all of your troops every time you switched areas in the final battles....I sucked.

I was surprised on one of my latest playthroughs that you don't actually need high coercion to persuade Bevin to come out from the closet. All you need is Wynne in the party! She will order him to get out of the closet and he instantly obeys. Apparently little boys are more scared of stern elder women than heavy armored warriors...

The fact that different types of poisons stack, or at least the damage from them does (don't know about stun chance). It's pretty humourous to see how much damage you can do when you click about 10 different poisons on your weapon. You can apply them one right after another too, it's instant to apply them.

Hmm, are you sure? When i first read this i thought it was a Doh moment for me, so i quickly checked the wiki (http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Poison). According to them, "one poison and one coating can be applied to a weapon at the same time. Using a poison or coating while a character's weapon is already poisoned/coated will overwrite the corresponding buff.". Who is right?

But that's when i was reading this wiki page that my great Doh moment came : according to the wiki, "bows and crossbows do not benefit from poisons or coatings". What?!? My main character is an archer, and i always used poisons and coatings when shooting arrows... :crying:

Press C on the key board to open up character record, find the person you want to level up and click on the level up button right hand page bottom left.  You can also click through each character and if they are due for a level up this button will be lit up.

At the top of the screen there's a panel of buttons.  The first button looks like a head, and that is the character screen.  You can see things like your strength and dexterity, and level.  Use the arrows to cycle through companions.  When you're on a companion, if they can level, there's a button at the bottom right hand side.  There's another button for auto-leveling them (the computer picks their skills and stats).  The button(s) should be grayed out if they are at max level.

Not really XP as they always seem to have the same amount of XP. Despite this, they actually level once in a while. Companions will never be more than 2 levels below your own, even if you never take them with you.

I think you will find that the XP is shared whether they are in the party or not. The way I was told it works is if you get 10p everyone gets 10.

No. Companions left in party camp never gain any experience. Instead, every time the Warden levels up, the game checks the level of any companions not in the party. If any companion's level is less than the Warden's level minus one, the game boosts their level to one level lower than the Warden's current level, then gives them all the Attribute, Skill, and Talent/Spell Points they would have gotten if they'd leveled up normally.

Because of this, companions you keep with you are going to be slightly stronger than those you leave in party camp.

Wish I knew about Wynne's plot spell, wish I knew that Amulet in her companion quest gives an invisible buff to said plot spell, wish I knew that the legion of the dead Heraldy gave 20 FRIGGIN POINTS TO ALL ATTRIBUTES in Awakenings. HOLY JESUS!

I have a whole list of "d'oh" issues from reading this. I love this thread.

Favorite so far is the Lyrium potions for profit. I want that danged Rose's Thorn Dagger.

I will also be telling everyone to gimme gold for their side quests. I'm still in an ME2 state of mind and didn't realize it didn't hurt me or companion rankings.

How do you get Wynne into Lothering??  Is that  PC thing?  I play 360, and Lothering has fallen to the darkspawn well before I get her....
