I was surprised on one of my latest playthroughs that you don't actually need high coercion to persuade Bevin to come out from the closet. All you need is Wynne in the party! She will order him to get out of the closet and he instantly obeys. Apparently little boys are more scared of stern elder women than heavy armored warriors...

How do you get Wynne into Lothering??  Is that  PC thing?  I play 360, and Lothering has fallen to the darkspawn well before I get her....

Bevin is in Redcliffe, not Lothering.

Yes, I mean the little boy in Redcliffe. To be more precise, I think Bevin will come out eventually, but you often have to reason with him for a long time. But with Wynne it was almost instant.

during my first play, I wish I'd known sooner that let all the mages die in the circle will make the tower invalid for saving Connor at Redcliffe because I've free Jowan....
So Alistair gave me a roasting :pinched:

Im thinking Bevin is that Mage hiding in the closet during the Circle of Magi Quest. When you first visit the Circle of Magi Tower, it is being ransacked by demons. There, you can recruit Wynne.

First playthrough I let the dumb-**** wife of Arl Eamon die for getting us and Connor in the mess in the first place.

I wish Dragon Age had paragon interrupts. I woulda paragon interrupted her with a punch to the face while she blamed everyone around her but herself for letting all that happen.

But I guess Jowan using all her blood is good enough.

Nope, like swk3000 and follis2 already said just above your post, Bevin is Kaitlyn's little brother in Redcliffe. dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Bevin

I think you mean renegade interrupts, not paragon. ;)

Actually Paragons punch Zaeed on his LM, and Archer in Overlord.

What I wish I had known sooner was that Undead were immune to frost.

Would have made getting the Juggernaught Suit easier.

If i had known that warden commander armor didnt make it to awakening i wouldnt have installed naked mods. The erected penis of my character on the very first scen was... disturbing to say the least (at least he had something to hit the darkspawns with, cause of course, weapon didnt make it to DA:A neither).

I only just found this thread and I am still wiping tears of laughter over this one!  Next char will be male, I think, just to witness this...Posted Image

Just too funny!

So much info... so many more times to play the game through! Who new I'd missed so much? I wondered though, when the last time I finished it said I'd completed only 79% of all available gameplay. hmm.... Now I know why.

Too many "duhs" to count, so I get a double *faceslap.*

No. Paragon. Thats a Paragon interrupt. :)

You DONT have to do the Redcliffe castle first. You can go to The circle of Magi as soon as you leave Lothering. Thus recruiting Wynne and being able to dominate the Desire Demon.

Yes, Bevin is in Redcliff, and if you do the conversation correctly, he'll give you a key to a chest upstairs that holds a half decent sword. ( His father's "Green-somethingorother.") It's not really remarkable, but it is better than what you usually have when you first hit Redcliff Village...

It's called the Green Blade. Which is pretty interesting, because the Spanish word for Green is Verde, and the Green Blade is made of Veridium.

Also, it's a decent weapon if you go in the order the devs expect you to. I never do, so by the time I get there, the Green Blade is actually worse than anything I have equipped.

Heh, what can I say... You people need to check more stuff in the game :) I read through these "Doh!" moments and can say that never had any of those. TAB key - I tried that out automatically as soon as I started the game out for the first time. A habit from other games (like, BG2 anyone?), habit to check out all menus and buttons and so on. So far, no "doh" moment for me anywhere.

Well, OK I lie, the "DOH!" moment was waiting for RtO and all the fuss about it and then when it was finally out, saw what a little thing it was. Still in "doh" stage and wondering what the heck was up with it... Final result doesn't match with all the screams and time spent on it and the spam and what not.

Well, not exactly a "Doh!" moment but still something interesting, maybe many have seen it already, maybe many have not. But those who also have played Mass Effect may find the following shot interesting:

Posted Image

Doesn't that "moon" ring a bell? Something named Klendragon? Great Rift caused by a "glancing shot from a mass accelerator weapon of unimaginable power"? "37 million years ago"? Interesting, isn't it :)

Lol, I thought the same way about the "not entirely legal" quests and didn't do them. The same goes for Slim Cauldry's quests. I thought: "I've just cleansed Denerim for crime and now I'm going to steal and rob? That can't be right..." Though I was never so "good" that I didn't dare take the elfroots in the Brecilian forest... I think you just won the prize for the "goodest" character ever!:innocent:

Heh-heh, yeah, in hindsight, that was probably the most goody-good thought ever, but I didn’t want to pick a plant only to have an Ent or some other angry woodland spirit come stomp on me or something (instead, I just had giant angry tree demons come after my party anyway). Posted Image And yes, that character also told Slim to go get bent, as well as Ignacio the Trial of Crows guy. Missed so much XP and money on all that. But that character was a good elf and so in love with Alistair that she was afraid anything that didn’t look golden in an ex-Templar-trainee’s eyes would net negative approval.

Oh, also would’ve been good to know that you DO have the option to go to the Circle of Magi for help with the Connor mess. I know this now, but somehow all my conversations the very first play-through gave me the impression of only two choices: kill the kid or sacrifice the mother and send Morrigan into the Fade (because I did that quest before Broken Circle). So, I did what I thought was best and let the mother choose to die for her child – and was quite shocked that Alistair got so enraged, considering HE was contemplating killing the CHILD. Hooray for high cunning and persuasion!

Wish I’d known you don’t have to go back to camp every time you want to switch out a party member. Also wish I’d known you should go into Dane’s Tavern in Lothering. When the refugee said it was full of Loghain’s men, my first PC steered clear of it (why go looking for a fight, honestly?). Spent half the game wondering when I was going to run into this Leliana chick… only to learn I accidentally left her to die a horrible darkspawn death back in the unentered tavern in Lothering. Posted Image

I have a funny story that’s sorta related to the thread… not a “thing you wish you had known earlier” so much as an incredibly hilarious misunderstanding due to inexperience. First play-through, I’m doing the Scared Ashes quest and I collect the mysterious black pearl but somehow miss picking up the tapering stick (or whatever it’s called), so when I pass that giant firepit it looks like decoration as opposed to something I can activate and get a codex entry for. So, the black pearl remains in my “plot items” inventory forever. I arrive back in Denerim and Sergeant Kylon beckons me over to give me a little extra coin for all my help earlier and says something about he’ll be whispering around town that the Grey Wardens are being framed and can still be trusted. I later discover a pro-Grey Warden poster talking about “the griffons will rise again” and the key to victory is in the pearl (and, having been a do-gooder and turning down the Trial of Crows, there’s no quest update regarding the poster) and I totally think Kylon put it up in secret. Well, I don’t think of The Pearl brothel… I think of that mysterious black pearl in my inventory that seems to serve no purpose! I literally kept my eyes and ears peeled the rest of the game for some clue as to how my Warden could use the black pearl to slay the Archdemon. Posted Image

I actually was fairly disappointed to learn that I am an idiot and it was just part of some unmarked sidequest that nets you a codex entry in my second play-through. But I sure did enjoy the build-up I created for myself during that first play-through when I was convinced that black pearl was the key to ending the Blight. Posted Image

LMAO. You are not an idiot. You have tremendous imagination and are probably the best/most natural/literal role-player ever!

On my 7th or 8th play through I finally figured out that from most of the city maps and several other locations, you could switch to the world map and go anywhere without having to walk through the whole city to the exit point. So much time wasted playing tourist in Denerim and Amaranthine...

Aside from all the little things like quest places, having a set routine for areas and knowing not to listen to Alistair and go to RedCliff first...

Garnets. Knowing to keep the garnets from early in the game is what I'd wished I'd known on my first playthough(s)

Wow, am I the first one to discover it? It works on the Xbox at least. That's the version I am playing. You have to get as close as possible to the demon for maximum effect.

Alas, it doesn't do anything to demons in the PC version.Posted Image

That's weird! Could anyone else try it out on the Xbox and PS3? It definitely works for me on Xbox. I am trying to do a solo nightmare run and would probably have never made these fights without the Litany.

And I was just tossing the damn thing after the Uldred fight!Posted Image
Does it work in the rest of the world as well on the PC ?   If so I've been wasting far to many slots to get up to Mana Clash for FAR too long !

My moment came in the fort before the final battle after meeting Sandal again during my first playthough. It was only then I realised that enchantment runes could be swapped in and out! Before this, I thought they were permanent once in place, so never enchanted anything until I found or bought the Master or Grandmaster level runes ....

@Rondolf: If there is a dragon in Orzammar, then this is my moment... but I don't think there is a dragon there.

@Raonar, who is Ser pounce-a-lot, and how can he revive people?

EDIT (see next post)  oh no!  I guess that is what 2nd play throughs are for.

Ser Pounce-a-Lot is Anders' cat in Awakening, if you can believe it. I onyl found out today, from reading a post on the forum. If you use it outside the battle, Anders talks to it. During battle, however...

Or so they say.

Of course, being that my character was really powerful, I didn't often lose party members so I wouldn't have needed it anyway.

EDIT

And the Orzammar dragon exists. It appears if you complete a puzzle in the Royal Palace and drops Ageless (2-handed silverite, legendary greatsword) after it dies.
