As for Lothering's destruction, that occurs after one story quest. I've actually left Lothering, done some DLC, then come back when I was able to get Leliana a point in Trap-Making so I could complete (but not exploit) the 'Traps are a Girl's Best Friend' quest.

Wish I’d known you don’t have to go back to camp every time you want to switch out a party member. Also wish I’d known you should go into Dane’s Tavern in Lothering. When the refugee said it was full of Loghain’s men, my first PC steered clear of it (why go looking for a fight, honestly?). Spent half the game wondering when I was going to run into this Leliana chick… only to learn I accidentally left her to die a horrible darkspawn death back in the unentered tavern in Lothering.
Wow, I was reading everybody's D'oh moments, thinking "hah, I'm so smart, I've figured all of those things out all by myself!"
...and there you have it, my very own D'oh moment!! How DO you switch out party members outside of camp? I have no clue!!
Also, I'm currently in my second playthrough and left Sten and Leliana to die because I didn't know Lothering got devastated the second you walked out of town... My current character couldn't persuade a thief to rob her even if she waved a sovereign under his nose, and I had forgotten that Leliana was key to convincing the revered mother to let Sten come with us (for some reason, I thought Leliana appeared in Denerim), so I decided to get some XP somewhere else and then go back to get the dude out of his cage. I went to Redcliffe, got rid of all the undead, then left town... and Lothering's icon had gone dark. D'oh!
You didn't threaten the Reverend Mother I take it? Alistar flips out but... meh.<_<

Good to know about Lothering not disappearing right after you leave. Will keep that in mind, next time!
Asdara - I was tempted to threaten her and my current character is going for the Zevran romance (so Alistair can flip out all he wants), but I figured since persuasion wasn't working, intimidation would just get me surrounded by angry templars...

I've done so many playthroughs and kept thinking 'why does it do this'.

In certain areas, you can use the Radial Menu to change your party. I don't think this is possible on the PC (thanks to the fact that they have a quickbar), or how they would do it, but that's how it's done on the 360.

"Dirty Fighting? Dirty Fighting?! It was there a moment ago!"
My first tests through the game, I remember thinking that Daveth was the worst Rogue ever; could not pick any locks. I still believe he should take these skills, but now remember Tomi from NWN, and am grateful that Daveth actually does something useful occasionally....

Also opened the mage's chest and had to use a mod to get another key for Return to Ostagar.
Had no clue that quickbar could be extended.

I notice that I left for the Dalish Camp from Lothering though, rather than from the party camp, and got river crossing instead of the spiders, might be a hint for players if their party is not yet quite up to snuff.
Usual tactics. Mori crushing prisoned the elite for awhile, force fielded the archer with executioner's helm. Leli pin shot the archer on the left then shat shot the one in the middle.
The enemy archers were still able to fire 2 rounds of scattershot at the party, but this time there was enough power in the party to be able to prevail. We still had to use health pots but nobody died.
I did check for a ballista, but I couldn't see one or find one.

But that pales in comparison to not even noticing Sten till third play through. Such an awesome and deep fella with tons of Lore!

It's actually possible to go and do a bunch of things and come back. For example, you can have Oghren in the party when you first meet Sten and Leliana...as long as you don't actually take any one "quest arc" all the way to completion. (For that reason, you can't go get Wynne and then come back and get Sten.)Amedyr wrote...

My "doh" moment was when I realised you could extend the task bar with a click and drag, which happened about halfway through my first playthrough.

Of course, it has made playing the game through a second time more appealing with two more areas to explore. The Shale one came with my game.

Also, after getting to level ~20 in Origins, i decided that there was no skills/talents that I really cared about so just chose any skill/talent willy nilly (just to ****** that "+" symbol off next to my characters portrait). By the end of Origins, I was level 25. Then starting Awakenings, I found that there were more awesome skills and specilizations in the expansion. So what I did was go back to a reload in Origins at about level 20, and played through the rest of the game again without using up my skill/talent points when levelling. You can imagine how stupid I felt when I found that for a mere 6 soverigns I could've reset EVERY STAT for my charactor via purchasing an item from a vendor very early on in Awakenings. Ugh..
Also, I had no idea about the shade you can battle if you wear the legion armour (not that I could, as I was a rogue that didn't meet the str requirements I imagine) nor did I know about the Dragon there either.

Crap! I wish I'd known that Vigilance is actually a cool looking sword if you disable Warden's Peak before crafting it!

Be careful setting tactics for using health poultices. If someone uses a poultice and is still below the threshold you set, they can stand around doing nothing (getting pounded/hacked etc) waiting for the timer to expire so they can use another poultice. Took me a long time to figure out why they were just standing there doing nothing. Now I always set up complementary tactics; 2 "poultice tactics" per char, or have mage(s) also do party healing. Of course the best is to employ Dr. Wynne Medicine Woman!

You don't have to wear the armor set yourself, ANY character can wear it. He doesn't even have to keep it on for the battle, you can pause right after activating the Relic and swap it out to battle the Shade.sdfsdfaffafe4rtggs wrote...

My d'oh moment was related actually - I found out the Helm ISN'T needed for the Armor of the Legion item set. All that time I could've given Oghren a better helmet...
