Well more specifically, no DVD drive. When I built my computer I didn't install a DVD drive to save money seeing as all my games didn't need one. Just wondering my friend just took back his USB DVD drive, is there a way I can play it through steam using my Cd-key or any other way to play it without a dvd drive?

Steam would not require a dvd as it is a download service. You could also try other ones like Impulse, Direct to Drive, Gamersgate, EAStore, etc. All of these contain a form of Digital Rights Management instead of a Cd-check system so you should be fine if thats how you want to go.

However, I'm getting the sense that you purchased a copy already which would not work with any download service. You should upgrade your drive to a dvd/cd drive. Kinda silly not to have a dvd drive as most modern games require it, except if you only buy them online. Other than that or if you ran out of money, there may be a fancy way of getting it onto your machine but you would still need to meet the dvd-check somehow.

OMG! You can buy a drive for less than than 1/2 the  cost of the game.  A computer without a dvd drive>Then you purchase a game in DVD format?? I really have difficulty believing that. You have to be pulling our legs. LOL

And if you can google, you can find a way, but it would violate the TOS to post info.

If you get the EA download manager you can use your cd key and download a working copy of the game at fairly nice speeds. I had to do that since my CE game disk seems to be damaged during production.

Yep. Simply download this:

http://eastore.ea.com/eadm

and then login with your account and activate DAO using your game CDKEY. it will then allow you to download the digital version and play without the cd.

I can't even imagine why on earth they annoy paying customers by requiring to insert the dvd. Why couldn't it just work without it? Sure, it could require you to be logged in or something like that if playing without dvd.

A bit late to this topic but I've been looking to do same thing - so sick of having to have my dvd around just to play here and there. I dl'd the EADM, logged in, entered key... but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. No feedback at all, just sits there, etc... Is it possible to do this after you've already registered your key here? Maybe that's the problem but I wish it'd tell me if it was accepting or not accepting the key or downloading or whatever ....

Edit: ok I see DOA on the screen, and there's an arrow for "Play" (didn't download anything .. so apparently just seeing my normally installed copy). And pressing that just starts it normally and asks for the DVD. So how do I get it to download the digital copy?

you have to uninstall it first and then download it.

It surprised me very much that the Search only produced two hits for "no DVD", and both were quite elderly. like this one is.

Do take note of the very last answer above my added comment here.  If you had gotten past the install before running into the conflict with EA's anti-copying disk tracks, you must uninstall what you have, prior to getting the digital download.
