On my iMac, (2.66 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, 4GB RAM) DAO runs pretty well.   Not the smoothest frame rate in the world, but very playable and pretty looking (I run with no AA, high graphics, and medium textures)  I'm guessing part of the choppiness exists because of the porting overhead, but also because the game has to be entirely stored on the hard drive.

My question is this:  if I get the PC version through bootcamp, will I see better visuals if I get the game on a disc vs. the download?  Anybody have any experience with this?

Thanks!

I replied in the other thread, but will quote it here since it's a pretty separate topic.

I bought the download from D2D. High settings without AA runs acceptably (for me) on my early '08 MacBook Pro with XP. Under OSX, I run medium settings with no AA since it gets too choppy on high. We'll see if that still holds true when I install Windows 7 HP this evening.

It may also be worth mentioning (because I dowloaded my copy) that I also upgraded to a 7200rpm drive in my MBP.

Disc vs. Download are no different except in terms of how they are authenticated. Download is via internet and the Disc is via SecuROM disc checking. The days of running any component of the game off the disc are long long gone... So simply put no there should be no difference because the only time the game does anything with the CD is to check if it's there so it knows you own the game.

Besides running off the CD would NOT speed up your gameplay since all optical read speeds are far slower than even a 5400 RPM HDD. A faster RPM like 7200 would likely help, but so does a high amount of available RAM since ideally you're relying on that and not your slower HDD. Solid state would probably substantially speed you up too, mmm Solid State....

Interestingly I have newest macbook which (in my build) actually has very similar specs to your imac, same gfx card, same RAM and actually a slower processor. I play med gfx, 2x anti-aliasing and med textures and the game is barely choppy in bootcamp, and only slightly choppier in Mac version.

If you're considering the PC version btw make sure you read my FAQ post before you pay for it in addition to the Mac version, the keys are the same!
