I purchased and installed through Steam. I have both Origins and Awakening installed. I'm trying to start a new Awakening game, I read that it will give me an option between Origins and Awakening, but it just goes straight to the Origin's create a character screen. I must have done something wrong. Someone please help.

It's very likely this issue is that Awakenings isn't installing, check the other forum posts in this subforum for some possible fixes

Current "awakenings is failing install" threads are here

Also be sure to understand that you don't click 'New Game' to access Awakening. You need to click on 'Other Campaigns' and select it from there.

If, by some chance, you do not have an enabled 'Other Campaigns' button then the threads provided above should be of some help.

Open up Word

Paste the following into word

"E:\\data\\DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.exe" /addins="BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Settings\\addins.xml" /manifest="I:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\addins\\dao_prc_ep_1\\manifest.xml"

Now, change this accordingly to your own drives.

E=My DVD drive, Put whatever your DVD drive is.

I:\\Games = my location for Dragon age, insert your own path to it

With the modifications, copy this text. Open up CMD, right click in it, press paste, enter if need be. The Addon installer will run succesfully. With any luck you can now boot up Dragon Age and select Awakening!

PS. This board tend to double the number of "\\". If you see two \\ in a row instead of one, simply make sure it's only one, as folder paths should be.

I'm having the same issue, where Awakening just isn't available to me ('Other Campaigns' is greyed out). I've tried alot of different things mentioned on forums and nothing seems to work. I have a support ticket in with Steam and will post any update I get.

@asdasd

This won't work for the OP and myself, since we've installed both through Steam.

I'm not entirely familiar with steam, but bare with me.

Can you try and locate a file called "DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.Exe"

Presumably, if Steam gives you any sort of files to use to install, or leave a trace than that file would be with them. That exe, which executes during instalation behind the scenes isn't working as it should, it's not locating the proper path, which makes Awakening not show up. If you can find that file than you should be able to use the command. I'll see about uploading that file for you steam users if not.

Here, I've uploaded the file.

http://rapidshare.co...teAddinsXml.exe

Place that file anywhere, Link to it in the first section of the command and you should be good.

SOLVED for Steam:
-Make sure that your current user account has write and modify permission for C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Bioware
-Run DAO_UpdateAddinsXml_Steam.exe in the folder C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\redist
-Make sure that you see a 'Result[0]' in the installer dialogue, 'Result[-1]' indicates a problem

Excellent, so there is a "DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.Exe" for steam. Thats basically the same thing as what I do, either way it works.

When you input the command into CMD, the DAO Update addins XML does run, and works right? No errors, i beleive the last message in the box should have a 1 or a 0, not a -1.

If this isn't the case, and it didn't run, than your doing it wrong, go back and try again.

Thanks anyway. This sucks! I only had a couple of hours to play for the next few days and the damn game wont even work!

EDIT:
I went through Steam's file verification process. Turns out that there were 7 missing files which Steam then automatically downloaded. Presto! Now it works.

Got my copy from the EA store via download and had same problem as OP. Downloaded the file that asdsdasdasd provided and changed the command to match my system. That seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks!!

For thuse that not using steam then ? - I have big problem just to get the automenu runing.

I pop the cd in my dvd - and it just keep spining and spining. Don't have problem when I put the ME1-2 game in or Dragon age origins.

When I trying to locate the cd on my pc(when you go on the start menu and klick "drive"-using Windows xp still), the hole **** freeze's.

I looked at my dvd driver se if there was something wrong there , I looked at the game disc see if there was any scratches, there is absolutly nothing wrong with any of em.

Anyway I got so mad I call the gamestore and demanded a new game.

I apologize for my ineptness with computers but what is CMD?  Been trying to get this game to work for days.  Only help available seems to be the fine folks in this forum.

CMD is Command prompt. Go to your start menu, and if you have vista or 7, i beleive you can just search for Command prompt. You also can find it in Start menu> acessiories>System tools or some such.

Naaaznaa, Do as I instructed.

ComplexRash:try and go to your "my computer" go to the disk drive, and click the Setup.exe.

You need to change it so that the paths are directed to your files though. If you have an EA downloaded version than the DAO_Updateinstallerxml thing will be in a different place from mine.
