It does seem that cryo blast and neural shock are repetitive. Are there any significant differences?

Cryo blast is better since it can freeze nonorganic enemies and it gives a damage boost once they are frozen.  Neural shock is totally redundant.

Personality wise Mordin is definitely my favorite new character in ME2 and I really don't think he's all that weak in combat so long as you're using him in the right situation. Clearly he's not up to the level of say Miranda or Samara; but against armored enemies he can be pretty damn devastating. Incinerate is the most powerful anti armor ability in the game and cryo blast is excellent for incapacitating any enemy once their defenses are down. Its just unfortunate that neural shock is completely redundant since cryo blast is superior in every way. Still I'd say Mordin is still a powerful choice against any armored enemy since Incinerate is such a great ability.

Personally I think he'd be a lot more useful if he had either...

A) Overload in place of Cryo Blast and something effective against all unprotected enemies like Cryo Blast in place of Neural Shock. That would make him kind of like Miranda except he'd have an advantage against armor (Incinerate) and a disadvantage against barriers (Miranda has Warp).

B) If Neural Shock worked like Morinth's Dominate ability. This would effectively make him like an anti-organic version of Tali. Dominate is a great ability; but I (like many players) rarely get to take advantage of it since I'm simply not evil or stupid enough to side with a compulsive serial killer over an honorable and duty bound implement of justice.

I'm finding him very good alongside Grunt against Blood Pack. He also seems to have better AI than most other squadmates.

I found Mordin quite useful as well! Not so much the cryo blast, but the incinerate was invaluable for me. Also, I found Mordin one of the more amusing characters. It was funny how all of the paragon options involved insulting him, though.

I really like mordin. His backstory and in combat.

However my friends were shocked when they heard that i used him in combat. They said that he sucked! I play as a vanguard and when i'm in deep in enemy territory I find it useful for him to use neural shock to lock an enemy down and reduce the fire on me. Incinerate is also amazing against armor.

What do you guys think? Does mordin suck or is he good?

I would also love to hear some of your mordin builds :)

I used Mordin in combat.  Considered him really pretty powerful.  He has some powerful biotics. You're not alone. :D

What skills would you guys recommend putting points into and maxing out for mordin? I've only played on veteran so far, so I just threw points into skills haphazardly because I didn't have to worry about the difficulty. On hardcore and above though I would like to plan it out a little better

Incineration blast is probably his most useful ability. If you have trouble keeping him alive, put points into the passive since it increases his health (and weapon damage afaik). Full cryo blast is especially useful because it has a 4.5 second cooldown (half of what the unevolved version is). Personally I don't recommend neural shock because it has twice the cooldown of full cryo while doing the same job.
