I don't understant all the complaints - so far it's GREAT! I especially like the scene between Alister and myself - it was emotionally satisfying as far as I am concerned. Just a few hours in and the characters (NPC's) have enjoyable bantering.. I can't wait for Justice.. But the real surprise (and a pleasant one) is the prisoner...

I just should have brough more gold with me...
This is such a great game!!  Looking forward to DAO 2, 3, 4, etc, etc.

Congrats on the launch.

With all the major releases seemingly out of the way now, here's to hoping you all can turn some attention to bug fixes and patches... and not just for Awakenings, but Origins as well.

In a word I am saddened by the lack of solid QA work. I have experienced 3 repro'able crashes in my first 2 hours of game play (I am still in the keep as I tend to walk around the environment and talk to everyone) and at least a dozen bugs that break immersion.

Combine this with the fact that I can not use DLC I "purchased" from the original game I would have to say I would have rather waited longer to have a more solid game. As it sits its not worth my $40 purchase unless something amazing happens in the story. I would have to rate this as a poor showing for Bioware.

Thanks for the feedback so far - please keep it coming.

I would ask however, that in order to avoid spoilers that you post actual Awakening gameplay info within the official campaign forum.

Likewise, Awakening or patch technical issues should go in the tech support forum appropriate to the PC , X360 , or PS3 platform you're playing on.

We have folks monitoring these specifically to make it easier to gather up all relevant info.  Thanks to your feedback on those forums so far we are better aware of issues some of our players are seeing with the latest patch / console updates and continue to look into solutions for these or work with community members to gather up more specifics/system info as needed to help find a solution.

It's great that folks are monitoring the X360 tech forums.  Let me save you some time:

...our goal was to pick up where Origins left off...

Meh. I appeared naked in Amaranthine (spelling?) and my dead warden is alive. Where's the continuity?

Anyway, I know BioWare will do something about the complaints. I haven't been letdown...yet.

I am always eager to read any dev comment, just to see if they "get it". Unfortunately, it seems like they spend most of their time dismissing/ deflecting/ ignoring legitimate technical concerns, and focusing on the "You don't like it, don't buy it" trope when it comes to users criticizing their game.

Certainly anyone taking the time to register the game, create an account, and post here has had a definitive reaction to the series, either positive or negative. I think a lot of the most heated criticism comes from users who have had a great time with this franchise, who "love" the game, but have a hard time reconciling that love with either A) Features and functionality choices (romances, DLC compatibility (clearly a design choice), plot point carry-overs) or B) Technical, bug, & glitch issues.

Personally, I am all for the devs defending their choices to ragers from group A. I don't think any choices are made lightly, and its fascinating to hear about how those decisions are made, and how they impact the world of Ferelden. This is a healthy communication we are lucky to be a part of.

Now, as for B.... It is at this point (Ps3 User BTW) where I have serious contention as to the quality and tone of the official BioWare party line. "If you don't like it, don't buy it" on this topic is an epic failure on the part of the game maker, and frankly, if you take the sum of their response, (or lack there of) to legitimate, persistent, documented and impassioned complaints/questions, the love starts to fade, and the rage percolates to the surface. They are a very talented group of people, clearly dedicated to their work/art. When serious technical issues are ignored through multiple patches (for consoles & PC), no explanation given for their persistence, or the problems are totally ignored, one questions the integrity of the Quality Control being exercised over entire franchise.

And just between you and me, the whole "just buy it and wait for the patch" philosophy doesn't really hold up as a standard when the arrogance of a corporate "don't buy it if you don't like it" development philosophy seems to be BioWare's current modus operandi. I know this is a technical issue gripe and "belongs in the appropriate Tech forum" for my platform, but alas, this issue bleeds into every element of my DA experience.

Bravo.  I agree 100%.  Could someone at Bioware PLEASE at least tell us if you ever plan on supporting the Xbox360 version of this game?  A simple yes or no is fine.  I mean, we've seen a response from the CEO of Edge of Reality (studio who ported DA:O to 360) in the Xbox360 tech forum, yet not a peep from anyone Bioware.  Anybody?

I've been a fan of Bioware's games since Baldur's Gate, but I can say for sure that I will not purchase anything else from them unless they quickly clarify their stance on supporting their products.

Will consider buying DA:A if you ever issue a 360 patch for DA:O. I don't want to buy anything more from Bioware if I can't trust you to fix its bugs.

I like Awakening so far (that's 11 hours in), but it really killed the RPing for me.
First of there's no mention of Leliana (or Zev)? I was not even aiming high with this one. Fine, VA is busy or something, but could you at least include a MENTION of them and the relationship? (Oghren mentioning the relationship between my Cousland and Leliana could have been classic) Little things, such as letters or a unique pendant (or something) from them when you start the game. Easy enough stuff.

Emotion. Where was the bloody emotion in my Cousland's face with the whole Joining deal? Now, I gotta compliment you guys for the RtO. I saw saddness and pain in my PC's face when she found you-know-who shishkebabbed on the bridge. It was real and I felt it.
Now back to the Joining. The "redshirt" thing happens (I hope you know what I mean). My character doesn't even look like she feels sorry. A dialogue with an option of apologizing to the said "redshirt" would have been very nice addition.

Out of the new characters, I really like Anders (and Ser Pounce-a-lot), Justice and Nate. I would love to see them returning in the future ALONG with some of the older companions. The new specializations are pretty cool and useful, so I would welcome them back in the future. (But fix the ones that need fixing please)
Hope that helps Bioware. I wish you good luck on DA2 or whatever else you're working on right now.

I would like to say that Dragon age was the best game i've played in years, You made a great start to the game series, But you are now cheapening the Dragon age name by not fixing these bugs and lack of good content with DLC, Return to ostigar wasnt worth the price for the amount of content we got, same with wardens keep (shale was worth it though but i wouldnt of paid 1200 ms points for her)

The new expansion is also overpriced and from what i hear it hardly gives a good amount of content for the price.

Dont get me wrong you guys made a great game (dragon age) but this is the start, if you cheapen the name with lackluster DLC and also it being overpriced, The series will fall like jade empire before it even truely begins.

Now that I finished the game...
I take what I said about no mention of Leliana or Zev back. Somewhat. It still could have been handled a lot better without much effort.

I liked the expansion, I'm glad to play through a bit more of the dragon age world. The scenery was great, the new armor looked amazing. The new rune system was a great idea but a little to convaluted to really waste time with. The new chars in my opinion were well done, the story behind them all was interesting and I followed it,however, there wasn't anywhere near the depth to their stories as origins which was a let down.

Now for the bad, first and foremost for me was the difficulty. This game was absurdly easy, im talking like big lego building blocks for 3 year olds easy. You managed to highlight that rather well by putting a part of the game in where you fight with no armor on. You can solo entire dungeon's with on char ( I was playing on hard ). There has got to be some difficulty for people on hard and nightmare, please, I don't feel any reward at all for completing a game that I can put so little effort into.

I think char importing was just a bad idea, I know its very hard if not impossible to work out all the intricate details of all the different endings in origins, so why import a char that would need to have answers to those to this expansion? It really only creates a lot of disapointment, maybe you sell a few more boxes but you don't disenfranchise so many avid customers like myself at the same time, and I think in the end its going to hurt Bioware's goodwill.

Overall, I do like the game and I want to say thank you to the dev's for making it. It does have a lot of the framework that made origins great to me.

It's currently installing; I'm a sucker for BioWare games! That said, had I known the DLC didn't transfer before I made my purchase, it would have given me serious pause. It's not that I care that deeply about pieces of virtual equipment. It's that the absence of transference suggests to me 1) a lack of interest in customers (we're just dollar signs to be milked) and 2) a lack of quality/attention to detail throughout the rest of the game. I hope to be pleasantly surprised, but as far as first impressions go it is not a good one. I understand that selling a slightly stripped down game+"bonus" content is EA's new strategy to make more money off used games, and I'm okay with that, but if you are going to do that you absolutely MUST support the model when you move forward. The original "DLC" from DA:O is not traditional DLC -- it's part of the full game and should transfer accordingly.

great hear devs. I only have two complaints for awakening first off ,too short and second wish that Other Love Intrest made a Cameo not just My Wife The Queen or King Allistar but other than that loved it and cant wait to play more Dragon Age games should bioware decided to make more.

I've played it most of the day now and I love it so far. Almost had forgotten how addicting Dragon Age really is. I was abit annoyed that my DLC gear wasn't carried over, apart from the gear from RtO. Was quite awkward to see my char wandering around basicly naked in the intro scene.

I also experienced 1 Freeze bug. While in battle with the Queen of Blackmarsh and she went into... phase 2 I suppose. No spoilers, but I attacked 1 of the "things" she summoned and bam... client freeze :\\. Guess it was a sign that I needed to take a break. About to try and see if it happens again though.

But I really like what I see so far. My only complaint was the DLC not carrying over (bug?) but that's really a minor issue since you get awesome upgrades early on. Keep up the good work Bioware. I will definately support you and buy more expansions/DLC's from you!

I was interested in grabbing Awakening, as I really enjoyed DA:O. However, based on what I've seen so far about game length, I don't see why I'm expected to pay 80% of the price of DA:O for 40% of the content. I think more frequent, episodic content has promise, but not if it's going to be twice as expensive as the original product.

There will always be people who will buy whatever you produce, but for those of us who like the your games but don't live and breathe them,  value is part of the equation.  Unfortunately, so far both the DLC and Awakening seem to come up short in this regard.

I liked this expansion, it had all the combat, and gnarly kills i like from DA:O. Although being short, My only real problem is that I did not especially love the new squad mates, they did not have as much Background as the ones in DA:O, which is really what made the game cool. So if i was to change anything I'd bring back some of the old team members (if not all) , add a few new ones, and add a bit more history for every character in your team.

I'm glad to have the opportunity to thank everyone at BioWare for creating such a wonderfully-immersive universe for these games.  I haven't been this drawn in to a story and its characters since I first read Tolkien's works.  I pre-ordered Awakenings, anxiously awaited March 16th, and the expansion did not disappoint.  For the most part, I was very pleased.  I enjoyed learning a bit more about the Grey Wardens and how they operate outside Fereldan.  I liked getting a glimpse at the politics of Amaranthine.  The Architect was a compelling new villain;  I was never sure what to make of him.

The new characters were interesting, though Velanna never grew on me.  I would have preferred it if my PC were allowed to interact with the companion characters directly, like we were able to do in Origins.  I was dying to ask Oghren about what he had been doing since the Blight, or ask Nathaniel about his family.  So it was kind of a disappointment when I figured out that most of the interaction with the characters was via party banter.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the party banter and it was well-written, but I missed the direct conversations.  Without this element I didn't get to know the characters as well as the companions in Origins.  Even though they were interesting, I wasn't as attached to them (excepting Oghren, of course).

I thought the choices were just as complex in Awakenings as they were in Origins.  This was one of my favorite game features, so I was really pleased to encounter a few moral choices that I couldn't easily answer.  The last one concerning the Architect is sill eating at me...

I didn't experience the technical problems that other people are mentioning, so I can't comment on that.

I was really happy to see the two characters chosen for cameos in Awakenings.  I would have liked to have seen more of them in the game, but you can't get everything you want.  I know you're probably getting tired of hearing this, but I'd love to see more returning characters in upcoming content.  Particularly Alistair, he was always my favorite.

Lastly, I would have liked a bit more reactivity to the events in Origins, but it didn't make or break the game for me.

I don't think this game was a rip-off for the price.  The story was interesting and the game was just enjoyable to play.  I'm already going through my second play-through to make some different choices at different points in the game.  The story and the characters are what I care about the most, and I wasn't disappointed there.  There were parts that I would have liked to have seen expanded or tweeked, but I'm aware that this is an expansion and isn't as long.  In short, I'll be pre-ordering the next one as soon as its announced.  :P

I love that Bioware takes the time to communicate with us fans. It is the main reason I purchased Awakening, I felt it was way too over priced but their never ending communications with us pushed me to spend the extra cash. I'm really enjoying so far, they fixed a lot of minor issues found in Origins. I can't give a clear example b/c I have to be playing to notice it but I'll make note of it next time for those who are yet to buy it or want more info.

thanks for all the hard work from everyone at Bioware. All of you stay so close with you fans it is the main reason I support you as a dev so much...oh & all your games are brilliant!!! lol that helps a bit as well.

After playing some time into the german version of Awakening, i just have to say, that it lacks the emotion of Origins. Yeah, people die, who cares, I didn´t know them anyway and even my character doesn´t seem to be impressed by their deaths. While still remebering the thrill of my own initiation by the Grey Wardens, watching Ogren burp and the would-be-cool talk of Anders makes me wanting to splash them the dark spawn blood right into their face. Oh, another one of may companions drops dead by the way, sad, but lets go on, s*** happens.

No, can´t say that I enjoy that very overpriced addon so far.

By the way, I know this has been said all over the threads again and again, but please, I´m playing a mage, please give us some space to put our spells into. Being level 25 by now and not using any addons that occupy quickbar-space, i have to do without rougly one quarter to one third of my abilities (I`m not playing on a wide-screen), and there are still some level to come. I was really disappointed when after installing Awakening I still had that old interface.

If anyone reads this, thanks for reading.
(I'm no native english speaker, so please don´t hate me for bad spelling or grammar).

I'm not very impressed. I can't get Awakenings to work. I'm still trying to figure out what the problem is, but it's a fairly common one apparently where the "other campaigns" option doesn't work.

I have the PC version of Awakenings and the game is GREAT. Repeat.....GREAT. I am enjoying every minute of it. Have had no bugs (other than one chest I couldn't reach to open), no crashes, and it plays very enjoyable. Sure, I'd like to have some more of the old party available, with a little more interaction on 'the way things were' in the original, but those are so minor. DA is GREAT and Awakenings fits it very well and is equally as good. As long as Bioward keeps cranking out DA and ME updates, DLC, etc. they've got my business (and my time -- just ask my wife! :-) )

My other disapointments are :

Where are the dialogs between characters?
Where are the emotions?
Where is romance?
Where are all my old companions?
Alistair and Wynne are only doing a small apparition...!!
You don't even hear of your other friends that stayed with you at the end of DAO :(
I'm disapointed cause of all this and i begin to regret my purchase...

What i loved the most in DAO is the story between characters and i think it is what is missing THE MOST in Awakening.

Alistair was my character lover, as an elf i didn't put him on the throne to stay with him as a Grey Warden, and i dont even see him once!! You only see him 2 minutes if he is the King!

Oh, otherwise, the game is nice but really too short for the price.

I hope the next eps or dlcs will be more like the original game, with dialogs, emotions, romance etc. etc.!

DAO is the best game i ever played, please Bioware, make that fun
continue! Its not the case with Awakening :(
