1. Glitches. Way too many.
2. The dialogue system didn't work. The idea of finding hotspots is good but it should be in addition to the normal dialogue system, not instead of. I really don't feel like I got to know any of the charecters properly.
3. Ohgren. I didn't particularly like him in Origins but I didn't hate him either, I was rather neutral with him and when I did speak to him I did kind of enjoy his charecter. However, In Awakening he was absolutely terrible. I was ashamed that he could be a Warden. He was just too over the top in Awakening.
4. Way too easy. I can play it with an impoted Warden on nightmare and never die or even have a single challenge. I don't usually mind when my charecter feels god like but here I beat almost every single boss, in less than 20 seconds. When I can beat an giant Inferno Golem or Ancient Sylvan in less than 20 seconds and a Specral Dragon in less than 2 minues, on my first attemp, it is too easy. I think the problem was that the enemies don't level well for a high level charecter like they do for a level 18 charecter.
4 continued. The new talents were too much for the enemies. I like the idea of Massacre killing all low level enemies near you because by that level those minions are nothing to you. However, the fact that there are few enemies who are elite or above makes it an I win button. There should have been less normals and critters and more elites to add more to the combat.
5. Underdeveloped story. We needed more information on the Architect before the last 3 minutes of the game. It assumes we read the Calling which I did not.
6. Side quests were terrible. There's one quest which should be massively important but ends up being an amazingly disappointing go here and kill quest. There's also another one to find a man and the person that gives it to you doesn't even speak to you. You just click on them and a bubble comes up. There's simply no emotion when you don't get to hear the emotion in the persons voice, especially for such a potentially heartbreaking quest.
7. Rune crafting. It is a good feature butt way too tedious, especially if your MC isn't the one with the skill. There should have at least been a place to buy runes above novice level.
8. Plot holes. Why does Varel administer the Joining?, it's supposed to be secret. There are a few things which don't really sit well.
Having said that, I found the gameplay fun and thought the story was interesting, though I would have liked it slightly more developed but I felt that it lacked the heart of the main game. It felt emotionless and at times went as low as felling like it was just an exercise in aquiring all the powerful loot items and leveling up. There's nothing wrong with that for some games but Dragon Age is about so much more.
For me it is okay, not great. For a lesser price it would be fine but for £31.99, not enough.

Having played Awakening, I felt that the game's a worthy addition to the Dragon Age franchise. That said, the overall level of quality has dropped, as did the polish. Others have already stated what aspects were poorer, so I'll not go there.
IMO, the single greatest strength of Awakening was that certain decisions had really serious consequences. There were a few times where I sat there unable to decide what course of action should be taken, the result of good build ups leading to these points. What I like to see improved in this area, is that the resulting consequences are felt for long afterwards, and that they may in turn trigger new sets of consequences. In this regard, I felt both DAO and DAA had a lot to learn from other RPGs like The Witcher and NWN2. For DAO and DAA, what I felt was the consequences were too artificial, shallow and contrived in comparison, and that they didn't do justice to the build up that came before them.
Speaking of NWN2, I understand that Vigil's Keep is like the equivalent of Crossroad Keep. However, from a gameplay/role-playing perspective as the keep's lord, Crossroad Keep offered contents more in quality and quantity than DAA did. There were many compelling aspects about the keep that you get to manage there. It's disappointing that DAA, an expansion to DAO, supposedly a newer game that promised to live up the the title of being spiritual successor of Baldur's Gate 2, was at least two steps down.
It is also my hope that two other aspects were improved for DA2: 1.) Animations of dialogues and cutscenes living up to the quality of the voice acting. You get the sense dialogue and movie sequences were created from a limited pool of animations, and that's immersion-breaking. Think Mass Effect. 2.) The classes offered/combat/spell systems were too shallow, did not offer ability to create unique classes as Baldur's Gate 2 or NWN did, too newbie-friendly and WOW-like, spells were too spammable, too easy and quick access to powerful spells - you get the idea. Think DEPTH.
Okay, I can ramble on and on. But here's the main points. Awakening is a good game, but only just barely. Barely 'good' fell far short of what many fans had come to expect from BW. Hopefully, a much better game in DA2 is coming to us come next year.

I like Awakening so far (that's 11 hours in), but it really killed the RPing for me.
First of there's no mention of Leliana (or Zev)? I was not even aiming high with this one. Fine, VA is busy or something, but could you at least include a MENTION of them and the relationship? (Oghren mentioning the relationship between my Cousland and Leliana could have been classic) Little things, such as letters or a unique pendant (or something) from them when you start the game. Easy enough stuff.
Emotion. Where was the bloody emotion in my Cousland's face with the whole Joining deal? Now, I gotta compliment you guys for the RtO. I saw saddness and pain in my PC's face when she found you-know-who shishkebabbed on the bridge. It was real and I felt it.
Now back to the Joining. The "redshirt" thing happens (I hope you know what I mean). My character doesn't even look like she feels sorry. A dialogue with an option of apologizing to the said "redshirt" would have been very nice addition.
Out of the new characters, I really like Anders (and Ser Pounce-a-lot), Justice and Nate. I would love to see them returning in the future ALONG with some of the older companions. The new specializations are pretty cool and useful, so I would welcome them back in the future. (But fix the ones that need fixing please)
Hope that helps Bioware. I wish you good luck on DA2 or whatever else you're working on right now.
P.S. Where's my bleeding Mabari?!
This pretty much.
All the big things are done well. I have much fun playing the expansion. But those small things that are missing add up. Picking up more (or anything at all) of Duncans and the others story (The Calling) with the Architect would have been very nice. Hearing from old friends and / or lovers even if only through letters would have brought way more emotions into the game.
Still I do not regret the purchase and am looking forward to more.

First: Thank you for making the game and I want more!
I was only mad about awakening at one point. I loved morrigan in origins and when i saw "the mother" in awakening for the first time I was sure it was morrigan-turned-broodmother. I thought you made my child into a sick joke to create "the children". Don't scare me like that.
I wanted to throw the game out the window and never look at it again, but I'm glad I didn't.
What I want for future DA games is..
- More personal journey. I like the thought about controling my own castle, but I just keep thinking why is the top commander going into the field with only three men backing him?
- Less super loot. I know people complained about crappy loot in origins, but I liked it because it was realistic. I found more super loot in half of the awakening then in the hole playthrough of origins. I even filled my storage chest twice. NOT realistic, why should wade work to make armour for my soldiers when I have more then I'll ever need? Give them some of mine.
- More personal party talk and romance. I want more then what we got in origins. Love and friendship is what makes life worth living. Why would you fight so hard to save people if you don't have any will to live?
- More morrigan, alot more. I don't know how or why. All I know is, I want more of her. I think everyone have a favorite companion they want to see more of. To me, all the companions were great but morrigan was just in a class of her own.

1) No morrigan epilogue slide when someone have romanced her in origins and talked to her after clearing the gates in origins (as her approval droped form love to freindship then).
2) Bugged approval rising for Sigrun, Justice and Nathaniel - ive gave them one item and theyre approval rating was raised by +100 but they remained on status neutral
3) at Wending Woods map, while exploring the part of map before going through the bridge you will sometimes get teleported to a guy laying injured on the other side of the map. This breaks the scripts for Velanna as she will stand on the cliff doing nothing
4) Skills obtained from Wardens Keep dont work, in skill tab theres a message stated: {class name not found} (these were two unique skills for warrior)
Thats all what bugged me, other than that, game is a masterpiece, keep up the good work!

- Level design and atmosphere were top notch. Really, just beautiful, well thought out work.
- Creatures were equally as pretty and approriate to the setting.
- Encounter design continues to be smart. That is to say, no two encounters ever feel completely identical, the player is always forced to think about tactics.
- The new specializations are, for the most part, both fun and practical.
- Item variety was better than in Origins. Not perfect yet, but there were more options for certain types of character builds.
- Thank you for including a respec option. There are some compainions that I like that I would never use otherwise without being able to make them a participant in combat.
Things that needed improvement:
- If your main character was not the party member trained it runecrafting, it was quite tedious. Move the rune merchant somewhere out into the keep's courtyard, problem solved.
- While I feel that both of the new mage specializations are solid in thier own right, traditional ranged damage style mages are still limited to a choice between two specializations, neither of which actually does anything to emphasize that style of play.
- As many have said, the hardest difficulty mode is still fairly easy. It isn't a breeze, but in my opinion most encounters (and all bosses) in an extra hard mode should always stop and make you think it's 'brown trousers' time.
- The new archery talents felt really out of place. Archery was one of the trees where freindly fire wasn't something to worry about and a reason to play an archer. With that in mind, only the first talent on the tree is worth taking. This isn't to say that adding area of effect damage to the tree was a bad idea, just that there should have been another line that continued to focus on single targets and debuffing.
- Having read The Calling, I was actually a bit disappointed by the plot of Awakening. The Calling was rich in ideas that could have been implemented a lot more evenly in Awakening. Overall, Awakening is full of good plot hooks (such as the events of Blackmarsh related to the Fade, especially with dwarves in the party), but no followup or resolution. It teases, but does not fufill reader expectation, which leads to emotional dissatisfaction. Also, the complete lack of followup on the romance options from Origins, or even new options in Awakening was a bit of a letdown.
- The new class specific talents didn't really offer anything new. They were bigger and better versions of the same old thing. Expected in "epic" level play, but I really would have liked a couple of lines of talents that allow the classes to emphasize different things or allow you to use the old class in an entirely new way.
- Compatibility with Origins? Wow was the ball ever dropped here. A whole new line of skills, talents and specializations, and none of them for use in the orginal game? I would have been happy just with allowing the specializations, level restrictions are just fine by me. Really, one of the things that defines the term 'expansion' for me
is to be able to play the origial game with the new stuff. I.e.: The orginal game was expanded. That did not happen here and it didn't happen for ten dollars more than a normal expansion.

I get the feeling most people who were disappointed with the game had ridiculously high expectations for it. If you expect an expansion pack to reach the level of the main game, then you are wishing way too much. I guess it may have happened once or twice in the history of games, but in this case, with Awakening's low budjet and small team, it would never have been possible. People should try adjusting their expectations accordingly, and avoid the pangs of disappointment that are now much too common on these forums.
One special gripe I do have: I worry how I feel the writers really went overboard with some of the lore stuff. Really, a mythical graveyard of dragons just sitting undetected in northern Ferelden with no one caring about it until now? Or, like in one of the ending text clips, it came up that Alec based an order of knights that would last for 1000 years. I thought it (among certain other things in the game) WAY too romantic for a heroic dark fantasy setting, and that the writers just really chained themselves into a ridiculously long time period. With anything happening during the next 1000 years in the setting, it can't be too earthshattering, since Alec's order will survive it all. Now, I hope and expect that it was just a thoughtless joke, but coming from an objective narrator it just felt ridiculous and worrying.
But, all in all, Awakening was a really enjoyable experience. I loved the banter, I loved the new environments, Nathaniel is now my second favourite DA character behind only Alistair (seriously!), we got to make some very important decisions, the new skills were awesome (Peon's Blight

I didn't like Awakening because it wasn't DAO. But as an expansion, it was good for what it was. It just doesn't have any replay value for me, because it wasn't a full-length game, so the characters weren't fully developed and the experience wasn't as immersive. I couldn't talk to my companions whenever I wanted to. I barely used my Coercion skill. It just wasn't a full game.
The new abilities were pretty cool though. I was able to get the Heavy-Hitter trophy with one of the new warrior abilities. All my party members were overpowered. I played the game basically to know what would happen in the end, but I didn't enjoy it as much as Origins, and I probably won't play it again.
I was really happy to see Alistair again and have my character's relationship with him acknowledged. I am pleased that they remained together in the end and stayed together "no matter what." In all of the Origins epilogues with characters in romance with Alistair, Alistair leaves her side and promises to return. But in Awakening, she returns to him.
I feel like I've been too critical, but honestly, I will wait next time for consumer reviews and even spoilers before buying another Dragon Age game, sequel or expansion, new or used.

The Arcane Shield on my mage. In origins its there you can see it and it dosent disturb you but in awakening it was like e big shell that made things around it all wobbly especially disturbing in conversations and cut scenes I really hope you go with the classic arcane shield in next DA Expansion/Game =)

In the letters it said "visit the forums, send us some feedback. What did you enjoy? What would
you like to see more?" And "the fans would come in. Would the fans want X? Would the fans crave more
Y?"
It DIDN'T say, What did you hate? What were you disappointed over? or Would the fans care about X? Would the fans wonder why we created Y?
If you have to be negative, then be constructive. You know. "constructive criticism." We all learn it growing up and if you didn't, I feel sorry for you.
See it from the creators point of view, if 80% of fan posts is negative about the game, does that mean that 80% of the fans didn't like the game? Why make a dragon age 2 if only 20% thought it was worth the money?
I for one love the game and the expansion. Not everything about it but I bought three other new games at the same time as origins. Origins is the only one I played through more then once and it's the only game to come up with an expansion. And they gave us 3.2GB (20-30 hours of gameplay)! In less then three months(not counting the holidays) along with the other small expansions.
I hope bioware don't stop unfolding the dragon age adventure because some people write before they think. Theres alot of people who love the game and would hate to see this epic game die out.

I felt there was scope to fill The Vigil's empty courtyard with troops recruited from different areas I explored, in a similar way to Redcliffe Castle in DAO. When I sentenced the peasant to join the army, I thought that was the way it would turn out, but he stood there... alone. This did not detract from the quality of the expansion, however, and it was definitely fun.
Environments: These were incredible. Sometimes even better than DAO. There was enormous variety and really beautiful zones (e.g. the crypt in Blackmarsh Undying, the Dragon Graveyard, Kal'Hirol). I loved the artwork, but story-wise - a dragon boneyard that nobody knew about? Aren't we getting a little close to that shark, Fonzie?
Characters:
As in the original, too many of the characters are very judgemental and dogmatic, instead of trusting the Warden and having a more open mind - they ARE trusting him/her with their lives every battle!
Sigrun: I love Sigrun and definitely want to see her return. She's got a brilliantly rendered childlike wonder about the surface world and this gives her a genuinely delightful personality. Her initial armour looks graphically great, too!
Anders: Fun. -ish. I like this guy, but sometimes he seems to contradict himself. I guess he was supposed to be the lovable rogue, but there wasn't enough time to discover much about him. Maybe he was a bit try-hard/intense, but I guess in the limited time that was how they had to emphasise his personality. I would like to see more of his story.
Nathaniel: An archer is not going to get a place in my team. His character is initially interesting, and the way he changes his perspective towards you as you do towards him is well done. I would welcome his return.
Justice: I liked his voice. Some interesting information from this guy, a playful idea to bring a corpse to life. I liked this, but I'm done with him now.
Oghren: Bad. He went from a lovable but well-meaning comedy drunk to an obnoxious, letcherous, responsibility-abandoning drunk. I guess everybody changes. I don't want to see him return.
Velanna: I really dislike Velanna. She is horrible, and although there could have been more to her, the first impression she gave was so repugnant that I left her behind for the rest of the game.
Abilities (some which spring to mind):
*Clarity
Clarity is extremely welcome. I understand that it made previously ridiculously expensive "Sustainable" abilities a little more viable, BUT one of the key factors (for me) which then broke it again was this:
*Sustainables galore!
There are too many new "Sustainable"s, particularly for the mage. This meant that a lot of abilities which might have been good (such as the new shield line) just got ignored completely because my characters already used too much stamina and the new lines looked as though they would simply exacerbate this problem.
*Dreadful-looking Keeper Abilities.
The Keeper abilities appeared useless - anything which immobilizes my characters is never going to be used - Here is why: In small skirmishes, there is never a situation dire enough that you might want to immobilize the healer and in larger battles, the healer needs to be ... er ... oh yes ... HEALING! Perhaps if the character regenerated Mana faster while immobilized...?
*Decent Battle Mage Line.
A good line which was obviously built to compliment Arcane Warrior. I was saddened that it wasn't built into the plot whatsoever. The final spell in the line looked awful, however, and didn't get chosen.
*Guardian looked bland and expensive.
This specialization looks like it will be through it's entire stamina pool within mere seconds. It had zero passive bonuses (the "Passive" just improves an "Activated") and the "Sustained" has a massive upkeep.
*Spirit Warrior great, but again expensive.
Please understand: "Sustainable" is a horrible mechanic. The mere mention of the word sends shivers down my spine. This line is great in small battles.
I think you get the point... I could definitely go on about this further with regard to things such as Legionaire Scout's abilities - which seem POINTLESS! They are supposed to help her to survive, but by the time the character's health is wearing thin, her stamina is LONG GONE!
My ultimate conclusion for the new abilities is that for battles against normals and elites, my team has no problem slicing them to ribbons. When it comes to elite bosses it is another story entirely because when the sustainables wear off, everybody starts falling over.
Runecrafting was well done, but boring. But then, I can't understand why I'd want to spend ages crafting stuff in a single player game - in MMO it makes sense because the time invested helps when it comes to competing with others or allows you to perform crafting tasks for lots of people over a long period of time (months or years) in the future.
Overall, I felt that perhaps a little TOO much was spent on the look of the game and not enough into the plot. I enjoyed it a lot, some things were frustrating and there were vast oceans of oddly thin story but it didn't break the game in terms of entertainment.

The Good
- I loved the story though I felt a bit short. I don't know how to explain it, but if you just rush through the main quest everything happens so fast so you don't get the time to take everything in as you could in Origins, but of course Awakening is just an expansion pack But I feel it could have been a bit more.
- I really enjoyed being put in charge, being able to decide people's faith from what I myself felt about the characters/NPC's and hearing the opinion from my NPC comrades.
- I really liked all the characters, but I wasn't really fond of Velanna. She just didn't seem "elfish" to me. She reminded me more of a spoiled brat that what I feel she could have been. And I liked Oghren alot more in Awakening.
The Bad
- The dialouge system was okey, but I would't mind having a mix between the one in Origins and Awakening.
- I didn't really feel totaly in control of Vigil's Keep even though I was suppose to be the commander. I would't mind being able to participate more in the repairs the keep needed aswell as being able to explore more both inside and outside of the keep instead of just the inner courtyard and 3 different buildings. When you're done with what you can in 2 of them they are basicaly just useless to enter again.
- Thinking that it was a keep I would like to see more people in it. Soldiers on the wall or just doing some patroling around. Maybe even put in a quest where we have to gather the soldiers and do an expection of their armor, weapons etc
- Amaranthine didn't really feel like a city. It was very small and not many people considering what it should have been.
- I would like to get my DLC items over without having to use an addon. And yes I dis use Starfang and Warden Commander Armor set in Awakening.
- Dark Wolf dissapointed me quite a bit. After what you hear about him you don't really expect him to just stand still and wait for you to approach him. And his armor didn't really fit if you think about that he's a "spy"
- Of course the buggy items (DLC) and quest's. Specially Sigrun and Velanna's personal quest.
- Bugged Approval rating.

the relation feature is still pretty new in games and i think adds to the immersion and the aspect of like or dislike a character. For those love scenes, maker!!! what the big fuss is all about.. hollywood do far more explict and we don't hear bout it, all in all i think it's okay and i do prefer pixel skin over mangled bodies on the news channel.

I did enjoy the new characters but like it was said before i really miss the party talk, i didn't feel that close with the new companions like i did in origins, i would have love to know more about them. The new interaction system didn't worked for me , i hope you won't used it again.
I took me almost 15Hours to complete the game with all the side quest at least the ones i managed to trigger with all the bugs .i was expecting more playtime specially for a prize so high.I was quite disappointed that you didn't focus more on the events occurred during Origins, it almost felt like the blight never happened.Anyway i felt the story was way too short.
Way to few new enemies.....what 4 maybe 5 new enemies?? too short for my taste. The rune crafting was ok but not essential, i didn't felt the need to craft runes in order to finish the game maybe because the game was way to easy to beat.
On the bright-side i did enjoy the fact that you can rule your castle or your land, that was pretty original i hope i ll be seeing more on this.
Overall i found this expansion fade, unfinished and rushed and pretty expensive for what it is.I still don't understand why you release this extension with so so so so so many technicals flaws....I mean it s not normal that i have to go to a forum every five minutes to look how i must play in order to make the game work.Between the patches errors and glitches and bugs It feels like you didn't do a proper testing or even a testing on this one. I ll be thinking twice before i buy another product coming from Bioware next time. I' m quite disappointed and specially since i dont see any news about a fixing on the major bugs of this game. My first thought when i finished the game was 'i wished i had my money back".

From the responses that I have read here I personally would be thoroughly disappointed: and, that's not what I paid the $39.99 for --to be disappointed. (After all, I paid well over $70 for DAO.) Plus with all of the bug issues I feel like I have thrown away the money.
Perhaps I expected to much?!? For once I was encouraged that finally someone finally developed an adult video game --because of the love scenes and the romantic aspect. There's more to life than just killing. If I was just interested in killing I would be playing Call of Duty 4 or something similar.
I have six more characters that I have been developing for the Awakening and now it seems all for naught. I have suddenly lost interest in playing. What's the point if you can't carry them over into the Awakening and carry on with some semblance of the original storyline?!?
I hope that BioWare--forgetting anything EA has to offer--will take this criticism to heart and redevelop the next DAO2 as it has done with the first one. Thank you.

1. more character customizing options please, like tatoos and especially hair!
2. you added a couple (like 4) new weapon models which were awsome but ... well i always want more! same goes for armor. sentinels armour is cool, but im also aware that its just cailans armor but black with red glowy things. dont be afraid to push the due date back 1 week to add more armors and sword! it'll be worth the wait!
3. *** if there are no romances in the next expansion/game (DLC i can understand...) then i am NOT BUYING and that is a promise! why did anders status say he loved me?
4. im an alistair woman so i at least i got to see him a bit, but for people who are with leliana or zev, it really sucks for them! Bioware, you need to understand that romance is like 50% of your game! it can never be too worked over!!!
thanks so much for this game and i look foreward to the next DA installment

If you have to be negative, then be constructive. You know. "constructive criticism." We all learn it growing up and if you didn't, I feel sorry for you.
See it from the creators point of view, if 80% of fan posts is negative about the game, does that mean that 80% of the fans didn't like the game? Why make a dragon age 2 if only 20% thought it was worth the money?
You see, if Dragon Age 2 will be made in the same storyless, flat way Awakening was apparently made, without any feeling for the companions and complete lack of emotion, so the player feels like set back into the bad 90´s hack-and-slay rpg´s, then please, don´t make a Dragon Age 2. It will just be a massive disappointment.
And as a customer, who payed good money for this game, it´s my right to say: "BioWare, you didn´t deliver what you promised, this and this and this is bad, and thats why I won´t buy some crap like this again". I´m not here to make BioWares job and to tell them, how to make a better rpg. That is what they are paid for.

Why? We have no idear how they are going to make Dragon age 2, bioware never said they were going to make it like awakening. I'm not saying you can't say anything negative about the game, but if all you do is chop up thier idears then a bad 90´s hack-and-slay rpg is exactly what you're going to get.
My point with the post is that, flaws are useless. Mistakes should only be seen if you can learn from them. And if all you do is pointing them out with no thoughts of improvement, then the comments are useless too.
And to your last comment, are you being paid to tell them how they shouldn't make a rpg? I'm not being forced to post here, are you?

But as I said, it´s not I who should learn from their mistakes. So it´s not my job to improve them. Of course could I tell the developers, how I think they could have made a better addon, but since this community is a bit larger than a handful of people, my one (and in comparison with the professionals very unqualified) opinion wouldn´t matter and more importantly you would not find a dozen players who shared the same opinion about how a game should be made.
It´s like going to a medic and telling him: "Hey, doc, my head hurts." And the pro will fix it. If he doesn´t fix it right, you go again and say: "HEY, doc, my head still hurts." And he will try something else. But you don´t go to him and say: "Mr. Medic, my head sill hurts, because your medication failed to adress the right receptors in my nervous system, why don´t you give me THAT medicine, that meddles a bit more with my respiratory functions, but I think, that will be a better therapy than whatever way you will choose to heal me."
They are the pros, my brain hurts when I see Awakening, and I tell the pros, they failed big time. I also tell them the symptoms, how I feel and what I experienced. Now it´s their time to heal me. (And Dragon Age).
