Why? We have no idear how they are going to make Dragon age 2, bioware never said they were going to make it like awakening. I'm not saying you can't say anything negative about the game, but if all you do is chop up thier idears then a bad 90´s hack-and-slay rpg is exactly what you're going to get.

My point with the post is that, flaws are useless. Mistakes should only be seen if you can learn from them. And if all you do is pointing them out with no thoughts of improvement, then the comments are useless too.
And to your last comment, are you being paid to tell them how they shouldn't make a rpg? I'm not being forced to post here, are you?

But as I said, it´s not I who should learn from their mistakes. So it´s not my job to improve them. Of course could I tell the developers, how I think they could have made a better addon, but since this community is a bit larger than a handful of people, my one (and in comparison with the professionals very unqualified) opinion wouldn´t matter and more importantly you would not find a dozen players who shared the same opinion about how a game should be made.

It´s like going to a medic and telling him: "Hey, doc, my head hurts." And the pro will fix it. If he doesn´t fix it right, you go again and say: "HEY, doc, my head still hurts." And he will try something else. But you don´t go to him and say: "Mr. Medic, my head sill hurts, because your medication failed to adress the right receptors in my nervous system, why don´t you give me THAT medicine, that meddles a bit more with my respiratory functions, but I think, that will be a better therapy than whatever way you will choose to heal me."

They are the pros, my brain hurts when I see Awakening, and I tell the pros, they failed big time. I also tell them the symptoms, how I feel and what I experienced. Now it´s their time to heal me. (And Dragon Age).

Honestly I really don't think they care what we think. If I remember correctly when they fist announced the Awakening expansion, they stated that they designed Awakening according to what the customers wanted?!? Judging from this forum, I am wondering who were those customers? The beta testers perhaps? They certainly didn't ask me and I am a customer --or was?!?

We certainly don't know what goes on behind their closed doors; and, since they continue to push  downloading the 1.03 patch and and purchasing the Awakening. It seems obvious to me that they have no intension of fixing the patch or the Awakening. There has been enough negativity about both the patch and the Awakening and yet they still remain mum.

Why is that, if I may ask? What are they hiding? If I had to guess, I would say that BioWare is under the gun from EA and that EA is the main culpret here --especially regarding the digital version of the game and the subsequent addons. I would challenge them to prove me wrong, by coming to this forum with some "honest" answers? However, I think that would be a cold day in hades.

I wonder how it feels to launch something like Awakening, only to realize that it's a horrible mess that doesn't actually add anything to the game it supposedly "expands", and introduces so many bugs people can't even make heads or tails of it anymore.

And then just.. leaving it like that.

The two developers behind Awakening (and I refuse to believe that it is more than two, considering that it acts like a premium module); You.. you have created an abomination!

I'd love to give feedback such as this.

If my game was actually working.

It feels a bit like a kick in the gut that you imply that I have to tear myself away from anything at all, considering that I don't really have anything to tear myself away from. Which leaves me hollow. And empty.

Screw you for taunting me so. Just.. screw you.

First to: "just somebody" You can't realy compare the devellopers to doctors, because doctors are there to "fix you". Where the devellopers are here to create the game. If you should compare them to something medical, then they are more like plastic surgeons.
If you get a bad nose-job and want him to make to right, then you don't say I hate it and will never come back. Then you say: I want it smaller, wider and the tip more round then you made it the last time. Even thought it's the surgeon job to make it right, and it should have been right the first time. Then if you as the customer want it better they you talk about thet you want changed or improved. Pointing out mistakes have never improved anything.

And "Jallard" if they didn't care about what we think, then why would they write the letter? The bosses who make the last minute decisions might not care mutch, but I think the acual creators care alot. I know I would.

Bravo.  I agree 100%.  Could someone at Bioware PLEASE at least tell us if you ever plan on supporting the Xbox360 version of this game?  A simple yes or no is fine.  I mean, we've seen a response from the CEO of Edge of Reality (studio who ported DA:O to 360) in the Xbox360 tech forum, yet not a peep from anyone Bioware.  Anybody?

I've been a fan of Bioware's games since Baldur's Gate, but I can say for sure that I will not purchase anything else from them unless they quickly clarify their stance on supporting their products.

Thanks for the feedback so far - please keep it coming.

I would ask however, that in order to avoid spoilers that you post actual Awakening gameplay info within the official campaign forum.

Likewise, Awakening or patch technical issues should go in the tech support forum appropriate to the PC , X360 , or PS3 platform you're playing on.

We have folks monitoring these specifically to make it easier to gather up all relevant info.  Thanks to your feedback on those forums so far we are better aware of issues some of our players are seeing with the latest patch / console updates and continue to look into solutions for these or work with community members to gather up more specifics/system info as needed to help find a solution.

It's great that folks are monitoring the X360 tech forums.  Let me save you some time:
http://social.biowar...67/index/247529
http://social.biowar...67/index/423972

Take a good long look at these two.

All we're looking for is:
We acknowledge these bugs and we're working on a patch to address some of the most important ones including the fixes made to PC 1.02.
or
We acknowledge these bugs and we don't have a patch planned to address them at this time.

We've never had a Bioware response in the X360 forum.

Agreed.  The Xbox 360 technical support has been the worst I've seen from any company releasing for that console, small or large.

The primary complaints are not even about small/medium bugs (rare crashes, dialog glitches, continuity breaks, etc.)   They're about things like "Under a common set of circumstances, all of my save files become corrupted."

As is, the XBox 360 product is defective, even by the lax standards of the software community, and the manufacturer should offer a fix or a refund.

I really only have one suggestion/request. Please... please put Dragon Age on the back burner till Mass Effect is concluded.

I loved the books, I really enjoyed Origins, but even my hand is tired of slapping the red-headed stepchild that is DA. Bioware does something really right with ME, the attention to the smaller details is stunning, to say the least. None of my decisions have mattered in DA though, maybe they'll matter later on, but I find that very difficult to believe. My husband doesn't remember me, my friends don't even so much as write while I'm away, and it hurts. :( All the while, I'm killing off would-be main characters in Awakening without shedding a tear.

I know others have said it already but yeah.. It's too short, too expensive, too laggy and while I thank you for trying, perhaps attempting to carry two games of this caliber, is too much.

Yeah i think all the faults with awakening can be trased back to EA they always never fail to let you down Like Bad company COMPLETELY diffrent then the old Pc versons all there horrible sports games that are all mostly generic. Bioware is the best that EA's got and i almost can garantee that BIoware is being restricted by EA i dont know if there completely to blame but i bet awakening's funds where cut in half and they forced them to make a release date and ship it early still a great expansion but EA made bioware rush it. I can tell

One has to remember that EA is an American [screw the customer] corporation while BioWare is a Canadian corporation. I would like to see EA get but under the gun in a Congessional hearing for Internet fraud and false advertising. It would be well deserved. There are some reputable software companies out there, but seemingly none reside here in the States. The good ones are all foreign entities. It's all about the revenue and sucking up to the sharehoulders.

I think it really could have used an extra 'chapter' between the three main areas of the game and the final chapter, so to speak.

As it was it felt like you didn't have any time to get to know your cool new companions, as all you have left after you get the final one is go to the end game. It just felt like there needed to be a little bit more in there.

Other than that I liked .

I am extremely into RPG's, I absolutely LOVED Origins, went through all playthroughs etc.. I thought the option to romance was a huge bonus, it was fun seeing all the different endings and outcomes of the choices. It made it seem real. The characters made it feel like you all went through so much together and being able to chat with them blah blah blah.. it was awesome. In my mind it was the true meaning of an RPG. The battles were great, it was different for me to have to use strategic planning with four people, but it really made you have to think out the battle before it began. It was a smart move for the game! But I hope if there is plans for a DA2...I hope that the old players and maybe some added new ones (some) and that it plays out like Origins did. Truly a magnificent game guys.

Here is an except of the Tier 2 followup from EA:

Customer

03/31/2010 02:41 PM

I understand. I think I can speak for many of those who are disgruntled by the fact that neither EA or BioWare has addressed the bug issues with the 1.03 patch and the Awakening. Not a word has been spoken by anyone from the two organizations. People are angry. I for one had pre-ordered the Awakening several months ago: and, supposedly it was mailed out on March 15, though I have not received it yet. Keeping tabs on the forum about the bug riddled Awakening, I am going to refuse delivery --if and when it arrives: That, despite not getting a refund knowing GameSpot. Only about 3 in 10 enjoyed the game so far. Not very good odds.

I think the message is clear: "Do right by the customer or else."

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts Customer Support. I apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing and for the delay in my response. Your issue has been escalated to me and I will be happy to assist you in this matter.

The EADM download the full game installation files into it's cache folder. The location of this folder can change depending on what the path is set at under the EADM options menu. Once you have uninstalled the game using the link, provided by Vincent (Link is here: http://help.dragonag...p?p_faqid=23831), you have 2 method on reinstalling the game. You can open the EADM and the arrow that normally says Play will show up as Install if the cache folder is still intact. If the cache folder where DA:O was downloaded been removed, you will need to re-download the game, then install. The 2nd method is to manually navigate to the cache folder where DA:O is installed and launch the setup.exe from that location.

On a side note, by policy, if legal action is threatened, we are suppose to cease all communication with you as the customer and direct you to the legal team, and we can not assist you with any issue until matters with the legal department have been cleared. If you wish to continue with legal actions, then I'm afraid that this communication would need to end. I just wanted to inform you of the policy we have to abide by.

Feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions regarding this issue. You can update your support request by clicking on the My Questions link on http://support.ea.com.

Sincerely,

Sebastian T.

I think we are appreciative. However, in keeping with DAO, there some of us who feeel they missed the mark. There is a lot more in RPG that just hacking and slashing you way to the end of the game.  Everyone was expecting more of DAO. To tell you the truth, I enjoy DAO for more reasons than just killing Darkspawn and the like. The storyline, the character development, the dialogue, and the romace is a major part of the DAO/RPG experience. Anything less, as far as I am concernd is BS. If you just want to hack and slash there are other games like World at War or Call of Duty 4 and the like. I would personally like to see more of DAO like adult RPG games. Thank you.

I truly love DAO. The experience is akin to reading an blockbuster fantasy movie--- or is that watching an utterly absorbing fantasy novel? The two media definitely blur into one in a very satisfying way. To think of all the decision trees you had to map out for the hundreds of quests, scenarios, character morality choices, etc.---WOW--- I am simply amazed and overwhelmed. (On a side note: I wonder how the actors kept the dialogue fresh and remained enthusiastic?) EXCELLENT JOB!

Please keep the Campaigns coming. Awakening is a wonderful installment.

And now, my 2 cents' worth for Awakenings:

1. Oghren as a return character: yuck. Allistair would have been better. Perhaps you had casting problems getting Mr. Valentine to return for the role?

2. I agree with SuperDyu's comments about the expansion feeling rushed. I understand it is an "expansion," but a lot more story could have been fleshed out. I also feel the same about the new characters in general. The arling court appears to serve as the party's "camp site," but when I click on a party member, unless he has something really important to say, there is no cutscene, but, rather, some quick, vague return comment. Perhaps this was done to streamline the conversations, but for me, having no cutscene greatly reduces any feeling of comraderie or intimacy with my fellow party members.

3. I also agree with CarlSpackler's comment about Allistair's somewhat aloof appearance after the restoration of order at Vigil's Keep. The character I happened to carry over from DAO fared little better than Carl's underwhelming reunion with Allistair, and she had become his wife by DAO's conclusion: yet upon arrival at VK, Allistair merely gives her a chaste peck on the cheek...Yes, yes, I'm sure it's the proper and kingly thing to do, but com'on--- he's just marched by foot from Denerim, hasn't seen his wife for some time, and is supposed to be madly in love with the character :P (that's 100 on the LOVE meter--ha, ha!)

Is this a picky comment? I don't think so. You, as the developers, invested so much time making us identify and like (or hate) the original characters-- it is a shame these relationships are not carried forward with the same amount of detail and effort.

I think of your expansions as book chapters...you have snagged my attention, please don't let the fine details of Thedas and its characters be deluded for the sake of getting a product out as fast as possible. I appreciate that you have bills to pay, but...

I'm glad to hear so many of you are enjoying it. :)

Umm, a HUGE amount of us aren't... I don't want to gripe, but there are a massive number of people on this thread and a bunch of other threads that are extremely unsatisfied with Awakenings. Its not a true expansion of the original game, its a tacked on extra un-cohesive gamelet that many many of us feel a little (or a lot) ripped off about.

I'm sorry to be blunt, but I think that the unhappy masses should be acknowledged too guys.  :(

The sad thing is that some of the new npc's are VERY engaging, and I would have really enjoyed the game if there had been real Origins style interaction with them instead of "click on object, get canned dialogue" style interaction.

ALso the expansion is buggy as hell and a lot of the choices and plot hooks make no sense at all.

Again, I love the idea, I really like the npc's, but its just not up to the standard of Origins, and Origins is the style I like.

If it's not broke, don't fix it (and the broken bits, Please please pleeaassee... fix them. crashing every 5 minutes sucks)

Finished my first run through of awakenings. Thought it was pretty good but was not origins caliber.

Also seemed story lines and cut scenes out of order, example had the vigil update looked awsome then it reverted back to the shabby wooden keep then back to my updated, etc. etc.

Don't believe I missed it but maybe where is the rest of the lorekeeper outfit for mages <hands in air>.

Oghren companions quest was never able to complete have tried many times not working? same with justices quest been to amaranthine many times over never to see his wife again?

How about the key only chest in silverite mine before the dragon fight ran back and forth through entire dungeon didn't miss a fight and picked up everything where is the key?

last but not least does the game just end can you not go back to either your keep or the saved amaranthine city like you can in origins at the camp? does this mean there is not going to be any dlc for Awakenings? Or am I just crazy which could be the case as anyone else experienced these?

Wow! Solely based the comments about Awaken in these and other threads I am thoroughly disappointed in the Awakening expansion: and, I haven't even played it yet. It seems that Gamespot has shipped my CD out via some other universe, for i have not received it yet. It was supposedly mailed out on the 15th of March. What's the date today, the 5th of April, and I still haven't received it?!? I dare say that this entire Awakening promotion was a damn bust. Both the patch and the Awakening are full of bugs, the concept and the storyline was not in keeping with the original DAO game; and, Gamespot couldn't ship out the prepaid CD's in a timely manner.. ...

I'd say that BioWare and EA (especially) has something to be ashamed about. In their rush to make revenue they produced crap and disappointed a lot of their faithful customers. Way to guy guys! Keep up the ****ty work!

I loved the characters you introduced. I'd frankly like to see them in future expansions/series releases. My particular favorites were Anders and Nathaniel - they had a lot of surface interest, and I'd have liked to get to know them better, understand better how they "tick." I would definitely like to see them and learn more about them in the future.

That being said, I never really had the time to get to know Justice, Velanna and Sigrun. I think I'd have liked Sigrun a lot but because we went from main campaign plot point to the next and acquired these allies along the way, I felt like I collected them all and then never had time to do extra stuff with them, get to know them. I think it'd have been fantastic to add some main plot stuff after all the allies were acquired so we could play around with the later additions more before the crazy-run-that-is-the-end came about.

I liked the quests and overall storyline also. There was some great content there. I know this was just an expansion, but more of the same would have been FANTASTIC - my understanding from reading reviews and interviews was that the developers went for streamlining the gaming experience more for the expansion, but I actually enjoyed taking my time and going on a little bit slower pace, spending time just chatting with my characters and getting to know them, or wandering around more for the side quests. There was some good stuff there and I'd have love to have seen it expanded juuuuust a little more.

One last note: although romances were not included in this game, having more of a nod to one's origins romances would have been great, to add a sense of continuity. My main character was involved in a romance with Alistair but didn't make him king, and there was nary a word of his mention. It'd have been good if the plot device of Alistair 'setting up a memorial in Duncan's honor' had been mentioned or that the Zevran/Leliana letters would have come into being, along with an additional note or two from Alistair.

Overall, it was a really great expansion and I love the new skills and talents. I really enjoyed the stories and characters. Making it feel more continuous from origins (just a little, it didn't need much) would have cemented it as a 100% successful expansion for me instead of a 90% successful expansion.

Please bring back some of these characters for DA2 and/or more expansions! Give them more depth and life! Their introductions are really good and I'd like to learn more!

I finally decided to break down and compromise my user account security on a vendor site and credit card information to purchase DAO and the DAA.

The excrementory practice known as region checking for purcahse really needs to stop guys. The customer decides what market they are in. It is almost always primarily due to native language; not to marketing and licensing schemes or geopolitical boundaries. Secondary consideration should be country of issue for the credit card if there must be a secondary one but otherwise stop the madness already.
