Based on the reviews and many of the post I have read, I will not be buying this game. The fact that everyone says that it practically ignores the Origin story is embarrasing for Bioware.

So the much-vaunted "your choices in DA:O mattered!" amounts to even less than it did in ME2?

To be completely awesome.

I loved, and am loving, Awakening. Is it Origins? No, and it shouldn't be.

No, but it should take place in the same universe as Origins did.

It does?

I wish it would at least give you a little snippet to tell what happened to your romance instead of people pretending like nothing happened.

I really enjoyed it until the very end, which I found to be incredibly sudden...no lead out, just straight to the epilogue cards. But hey, at least my PC's romance finally got a nod there, even if I never get to know what Al was doing (Highever? Weisshaupt? Something else entirely?) while I was off saving the Arling.

The Companion dialogue change is pretty lame though. Why am I clicking trees, statues, casks, anvils, etc. when all I want to do is talk to my fellow Grey Wardens?

In other words, if you are importing characters from Origins, then continuity should be important.  That is kind of the whole point of an expansion... to expand upon the original.

This is exactly what I was afraid of. Continuity. Yes Alistair mentions that I am his wife and kisses me on the cheek. That at least makes me happy. However, this is like a whole new game to me. I like it a lot, but honestly, just bring in the Orlesian. They did a terrible job explaining the stories. Scratch that, they just really didn't explain anything. I sort of feel like there is a missing space here. And yes Bioware I miss being able to talk to my buddies whenever I want. This new system is ok, but I still would like to talk to them. Please bring that back the next time around. Again, I do like it and am having fun, but it feels so much different then origins. Not as personal.

I have this constant feeling of "Must make this last longer, do not want to see it end." And I second the thing about holding court, I love it. But I don't see it enough. I've completed two plot quests plus all the side quests that I can find, and got the achievement for upgrading the keep completely, but have only held court once. I had a revolt among my citizens over food, even though I moved my soldiers to protect the farmland first thing. That I didn't quite get.

One nice surprise was getting a nice reward of 60 Sovereigns for opening the trade routes.

OP: I agree.

I did not like how they handled Oghren. I loved him in Origins but here....complete and utter jerk.

Over all I did not feel as attatched to all of these companions. Nathaniel was the only one. I missed the "interview" questions from Origins.

And why the choice between the city and the keep? Why'd dividing forces work in Origins but not here? I expected that we'd be doing the same thing since the keep has half my team there...did they all sip poisoned koolaid when I left? Forget which end of the sword to hold? Or, heaven forbid, lick a lamppost and get stuck?

This is why i spent money on the new Dawn of War II expansion because it is much more value for money. If you guys and girls want a great rpg for the 10 dollar change from your 50 i suggest you purchase Arcanum Steamworks of Magic Obscuria, Sacred 1, or my favorite Myth II but myth is RTS.

Few hours in to it. Spent part of the time importing some of my female pcs to see what reaction I could get out of Alistair. A bunch of one liners. And that chaste kiss, wtf, is that?

Loved the Anders opening scene best yet.

Nathan Howe? I went back and imported my female Cousland just to be able to have a conversation with him. It was very brief.

More junk to fill up inventory.

Understand tedium of running the Vigil. Actually okay with that. Sidequests have been pretty boring so far.

Understand that there is no romance. Wouldn't want to cheat on Alistair anyway. Bet we can all agree on this....

Where's the wonderful conversations with our traveling pcs. I want to get to know Anders and Nathan. I miss when you could just click and talk. Even if I can't romance them.

Bioware took the one thing that made DAO awesome from us. They took away our ability to interact with our npcs. None too happy to say the least. Awakenings might as well be Oblivion...looting and killing.

As ive said in other threads, it does seem like they designed it with you playing as a new char in mind. I think another part of it though is that this is their first xpac with the new series (kotor, me, da) and they seem to want to treat it like people often do with a sequel....throw in some vague references and bring back a character or two. I am still amazed though admittedly that they had better continuity in a full fledged sequel where you bloody die at the beginning then they do in an expac...

Awakenings seems like it would have been better off if it was made as a stand alone DA2. Overall I think they mostly underestimated peoples attachment to their characters and companions.....they really should not have expected many people to sacrifice their characters.

As for the new convo system......well I guess its an ok idea...but I am again surprised that they wpuld make a major change to a core feature of their recent games and expect everyone to like it.  It would be great as an addition perhaps, but not as THE new convo feature.  So far ive seen one person who activly mentioned likeing it, even takeing into account negativity bias on the forums thats not really a good sign.

I take it, that is the only time in the entire game you see Ali? You cannot actually talk to him or interact with him save the small peck on the cheek, correct?

But Bioware actually believes that this is a "far better way" for us to interact with our companions (WTF???). Almost every post I have read is complaining about this. I am getting depressed just reading all these posts about how disconnected the Awakening storyline is from Origins. I feel if I decide to even buy Awakening it will ruin my experience I had playing Origins. Ugh :crying:

To be fair-I like the interaction option inasmuch as the characters show some 'awareness' of what's going on around them. It makes THEM more immersive (but not neccessarily immerses me). I'd have liked a combination of both options, talk directly and interact with items.

What I don't get (and yes, I've mentioned this elsewhere). They create a game which is WILDLY popular. People love it. They get attached to the companions, love the conversation (main complaint you see is that there's not enough); it's what kept so many people playing. So the writers decided what makes the game so special needs to be taken out and replaced with something else.

I honestly don't get it. Obviously, it's their game; however they feel is best to design it, ok. That doesn't mean I understand the decision at all. I know if there is another expansion, I will be slower to buy it. Same with DA2. /shrug. There's a big difference between DA:O and DA:A and I really prefer the feel to DA:O. It wouldn't surprise me, though, if that after this expansion, they find the 30+ crowd who loved DA:O so much now waits for the bargain bin.

Don't get me wrong, DA:A has a lot good about it. The combat is great. The AI is FAR better. But I miss being an actual part of the world. Right now, honestly, it feels like an MMO playing with bots as opposed to DA:O which also had an MMO feel, but with real people.

Or perhaps I'm weird and a whiner. That's possible too!

Agreed. Holding court with your vassals gives you a good "heavy lies the crown" sort of feeling when hearing their complaints.

Yeah, I like the new dialogue stuff to an extent, but it seems like something that should have been *added* to how it was in DAO, not *replace* what DAO had. You should still be able to strike up a conversation with your teammates, but maybe some dialogue can only be triggered by actually being somewhere and having your surroundings prompt the discussion.

I agree. It feels like they took out a chunk of the game's soul. What made DAO great was immersion and consequences of choices and relationships between the PC and his/her companions. The first two go out the window when we can't even get a single throwaway line about our choices at the end of the game, and the last one is destroyed by things like approval getting reset and bland cameos.

I know,  you'd think so, right? But it feels like an alternate universe/parallel dimension where many people and places have the same names but everything is different. What is this, Sliders?

Funny, I have not seen 1 good response from a writer or dev as to why they did this.
