Based on the reviews and many of the post I have read, I will not be buying this game. The fact that everyone says that it practically ignores the Origin story is embarrasing for Bioware.
k thx for sharing

No, but it should take place in the same universe as Origins did.Bryy_Miller wrote...

To be completely awesome.
I loved, and am loving, Awakening. Is it Origins? No, and it shouldn't be.

I really enjoyed it until the very end, which I found to be incredibly sudden...no lead out, just straight to the epilogue cards. But hey, at least my PC's romance finally got a nod there, even if I never get to know what Al was doing (Highever? Weisshaupt? Something else entirely?) while I was off saving the Arling.
The Companion dialogue change is pretty lame though. Why am I clicking trees, statues, casks, anvils, etc. when all I want to do is talk to my fellow Grey Wardens?

Few hours in to it. Spent part of the time importing some of my female pcs to see what reaction I could get out of Alistair. A bunch of one liners. And that chaste kiss, wtf, is that?
Loved the Anders opening scene best yet.
Nathan Howe? I went back and imported my female Cousland just to be able to have a conversation with him. It was very brief.
More junk to fill up inventory.
Understand tedium of running the Vigil. Actually okay with that. Sidequests have been pretty boring so far.
Understand that there is no romance. Wouldn't want to cheat on Alistair anyway. Bet we can all agree on this....
Where's the wonderful conversations with our traveling pcs. I want to get to know Anders and Nathan. I miss when you could just click and talk. Even if I can't romance them.
Bioware took the one thing that made DAO awesome from us. They took away our ability to interact with our npcs. None too happy to say the least. Awakenings might as well be Oblivion...looting and killing.

I agree. Having them interact in the story is good. But I miss being able to talk to them.Darkannex wrote...
To be fair-I like the interaction option inasmuch as the characters show some 'awareness' of what's going on around them. It makes THEM more immersive (but not neccessarily immerses me). I'd have liked a combination of both options, talk directly and interact with items.
Nope. You took the words right out of my mouth.ejoslin wrote...
What I don't get (and yes, I've mentioned this elsewhere). They create a game which is WILDLY popular. People love it. They get attached to the companions, love the conversation (main complaint you see is that there's not enough); it's what kept so many people playing. So the writers decided what makes the game so special needs to be taken out and replaced with something else.
I honestly don't get it. Obviously, it's their game; however they feel is best to design it, ok. That doesn't mean I understand the decision at all. I know if there is another expansion, I will be slower to buy it. Same with DA2. /shrug. There's a big difference between DA:O and DA:A and I really prefer the feel to DA:O. It wouldn't surprise me, though, if that after this expansion, they find the 30+ crowd who loved DA:O so much now waits for the bargain bin.
Don't get me wrong, DA:A has a lot good about it. The combat is great. The AI is FAR better. But I miss being an actual part of the world. Right now, honestly, it feels like an MMO playing with bots as opposed to DA:O which also had an MMO feel, but with real people.
Or perhaps I'm weird and a whiner. That's possible too!

It just feels.....awesome. I'm loving awakening.
Yeah, I like the new dialogue stuff to an extent, but it seems like something that should have been *added* to how it was in DAO, not *replace* what DAO had. You should still be able to strike up a conversation with your teammates, but maybe some dialogue can only be triggered by actually being somewhere and having your surroundings prompt the discussion.cmessaz wrote...

I agree. It feels like they took out a chunk of the game's soul. What made DAO great was immersion and consequences of choices and relationships between the PC and his/her companions. The first two go out the window when we can't even get a single throwaway line about our choices at the end of the game, and the last one is destroyed by things like approval getting reset and bland cameos.ejoslin wrote...

I know, you'd think so, right? But it feels like an alternate universe/parallel dimension where many people and places have the same names but everything is different. What is this, Sliders?Bryy_Miller wrote...
