What I don't get (and yes, I've mentioned this elsewhere). They create a game which is WILDLY popular. People love it. They get attached to the companions, love the conversation (main complaint you see is that there's not enough); it's what kept so many people playing. So the writers decided what makes the game so special needs to be taken out and replaced with something else.
I honestly don't get it. Obviously, it's their game; however they feel is best to design it, ok. That doesn't mean I understand the decision at all. I know if there is another expansion, I will be slower to buy it. Same with DA2. /shrug. There's a big difference between DA:O and DA:A and I really prefer the feel to DA:O. It wouldn't surprise me, though, if that after this expansion, they find the 30+ crowd who loved DA:O so much now waits for the bargain bin.
Don't get me wrong, DA:A has a lot good about it. The combat is great. The AI is FAR better. But I miss being an actual part of the world. Right now, honestly, it feels like an MMO playing with bots as opposed to DA:O which also had an MMO feel, but with real people.
Or perhaps I'm weird and a whiner. That's possible too!
It is not 'their' game. They are not just letting us use it for a while out the kindness of their hearts. It is a product that is being marketed and sold, just like a TV, computer or car. Do you see electronic companies or car companies telling their customer "These are OUR products - we make what we want, don't buy our products then if you don't agree with how WE made them" Are you kidding? The minute they receive complaints they change their products to fit their customer's needs or they recall the product and fix what did not work.

Yes, I do miss being able to talk to my NPCs whenever I want. Yes, I do miss being able to romance them or at least befriend them in a more natural way.
This character made Anora queen and ran off with Al to rebuild the Wardens, but yes, it is sad that when he is king he doesn't stay longer or make a more public show of your relationship. However, at least that's something if you married him or stayed on as his mistress, he hasn't appeared at all yet in my game. There's no mention of him at all, by anyone. Even if I hadn't romanced him, it's kind of weird that the OTHER Warden who was there when the AD was brought down and who was put forward as a candidate for the throne suddenly doesn't exist. Even Oghren seems to have forgotten about "The Other Guy".
The main thing I find frustrating is, is I have no idea what I'm doing. I sort of feel plunked down and with extremely little guidance, told to go out and... do stuff. I'm being forced to make decisions with very little background knowledge or advice and it's led to a few minor disasters already. I'm going to start this PC over to hopefully rectify having the entire guard of Amaranthine out to kill me

Well, the solution is to realize most likely anything else with the DA logo on it won't be the immersive world we fell in love with. I was just saying in another thread that it was the character interaction which is what made the game special. And if it's not going to be like that in further games, then they will lose the people as customers to whom that's important. And what decisions made after that will be based on how large a portion of their sales actually came from those customers.
What makes me sad really is the the writers don't want to hear that they may be heading in the wrong direction, that there IS a lot good about the whole campfire setting. One way to solve one of the problems mentioned is have approval itself set on actions, not camp dialog. That way you don't end up with a best friend that you leave at the base.
You don't have to throw the baby out along with the bath water. If DA:O had been a flop, or only mildly successful, I could see wanting to try entirely new systems. But that is NOT the case. People loved it. It's incredibly popular. Why not build on what made it so popular rather than throw it out?

I guess I'm not as angsty over this expansion as so many others are, lol. There are some things that I'm not happy with, but not everything is a surprise (ie some of what I'm not thrilled with and people are complaining about WERE openly stated on the FAQ ahead of time).

I was wondering what would become of Al if you didn't make him King, but romanced him and ran off to the Warden with him. So he doesn't even show up? He's not even MENTIONED? This is a letdown for the people who took that route, I'm sure. Also, it seems like a huge lack of oversight by BW; then again, so do a lot of the things that took place in the expansion.

He isn't mentioned by any other character but he does show up provided you killed Loghain and thus kept him as a companion, his cameo ( as well as Loghain's ) is pathetic to say the least.
I found it funny to hear Loghain rant that if something happened to his daughter ( which I married on my human noble ) he would come and kill me. Apparently he is sent to command wardens in Orlais, I seriously laughed at that. Oh the irony

I miss the camp scene, it was a nice way to calm yourself and prepare for the next onslaught of battles without having to actually leave the game, and it was realistic, as people have to camp...I like the new convo system only in that if I accidentally click on a character they don't go into the full cut scene, but I wanted to ask Oghren about his kid, get to know the mage a bit, convince Nathaniel his father was an a**hole (my toon is a FHN)...I hate having to divide my forces, Seems like without a Blight no one wants to help you... and as Queen I should have as many soldiers as I need...I'm glad I married Alistair, it was nice to see him...for a whole 60 seconds...and I agree that the chaste kiss on the cheek was BS, your his freakin QUEEN! and he didn't mind kissing full on with your companions (except Zev lol)...though I do have to admit I get a kick out of what Anders says when you take him out of your party, i think it may be the best line of the game to me lol....Andraste's Knicker-weasels! priceless....No where near as good as DA:O, but then, sequels rarely are... I like it, but no where near the obsessive love level as DA:O...so I'll just go back to DA:O after this,
This.

Allistair .. Could care less about him . He's not an important character in the game.Just run around and do your kind thing for all i care. Can't beleive my character had to bow before that clown . That same clown who was whining an crying on my character shoulder during the entire trip to save Ferelden..He should be the one bowing down to me.
Sigrun .. I love that character
Ander yes
Hower .. Okay
Velanna .. Average..
The Matriach .. She's Fugly..
But at some point my character was getting overpowered.I hate the level system in video game.Because it's make no sense.PPl tend to think that it's represent your character power in the game.. No.. If the dev want an Ogre to 1 hit you .. Than can do it.Whatever your level is.

The loss of conversations wasn't terrible for me, though I do miss them. It does make a bit of sense that if youre standing in the middle of a horde of darkspawn corpses, you shouldn't be able to approach Anders and ask what his time in solitary was like. Though I would have if given the option. Lol. I feel like I still got to know him. Him and Oghren had me laughing when I least expected to, so I was happy there was still humor around at times.
One thing that had me WTF'ing was all the gold. Jebus. Made me think that during the blight everyone ran out of weapons and starting attacking with silver and gold and that's why its lying all over the place in piles. I was always peeved in Da:o cuz I was broke, now i have enough money to buy some of Andrastes knicker weasels if I so please.
Three things made me mad, actually a bit stronger than 'mad'. Two of which include Alistair. Don't get me wrong, as the rabid fan girl I am, I squealed when I saw him (might have threw my arms up in the air but I can't recall now >.> *cough*). I played a noble and when I saw myself kneel...before my husband...I had a very feminist moment. Wtf, excuse me? Why am I putting my blood stained knee on the ground when no one did it for me? *glares at Mirahi* The peck on the cheek aggravated me to no end. Though I know to appreciate that I got SOMETHING. He had better be glad he talked so sweet or I might have kicked him in his lamp post. (I would like to say that even though brief, it was really sweet and had me laughing. Makes me miss him more though.)
And the last thing that really ticked me off was the epilogue about my noble.
*SPOILER*
I stay at court for a few years and then disappear. No one knows where or why? Alistair doesn't send out a battalion of knights to go find me so he can force me to kneel some more? Ok, that sounded wrong, I apologize. Lol. I guess I should let it go cuz they don't seem to be sticking to the epilogues much. If at all. But I still felt flames shoot out of my eyes when I read it. *sigh* I'm still glad there was a continution of some sort, cuz like I said, I'm not use to there being any for a game. It could have been better, most definately, but it could have been worse, too. I didn't miss any of the others cuz I didn't mess with them in Origins. I'm an Anders fan now, though. He didn't seem like Alistair at all to me. His epilogue and Oghren's were touching. I guess I chose right.

Of course they don't want to hear anything critical, they want everyone to stroke their egos and will not have it any other way.

I, myself, have never played an expansion of any kind. This is my first BW game. I have played Da:o more times than probably any other game I have ever bought, which is really saying something. I can't say that I am completely let down by Awakening but I also can't say that I'm excited to play it again. Da:o for me was 'beat it, watch the epilogue and immediately start a new background', that kind of love.

I'm with you. Awakenings felt so empty. Like huge portions of it were missing.
Pretty much everything that has been stated about thereasons why the new dialog system sucks has been said already. If it ain't broke, don't fix it Bioware.
But oh God the ending. So quick to come about. Part of me wants to ignore the both the ending and Awakenings and just pretend Origins is where my character left off.
I like Dragon Age, but spending $40+ on this leaves me with the buyers remorse. If they continue to release expansions/sequels like this at such a high price, I won't buy them.

Agreed, Swordsman. If another expansion for DA is released, I will read reviews before buying it, and I mean consumer reviews. I won't preorder it unless there is party interaction.
This is why I feel I need to read comments from those who have already played Awakening and from those who enjoyed Origins for the same reason I did. It does me no good to read reviews from someone who could care less for the RPGing elements, companion relationship building and romances and only cares about the combat and Rune-crafting. The feeling I am getting is from those who loved the game (Origins) for the storyline, RPG elements and companion interactions seem to be quite disappointed. On the other hand, those who mainly dismissed the companion relationships and mostly only enjoyed the combat seem to have enjoyed it.

Around a couple hours into Awakenings, I gave up, and drove to my friend's house to play ME2.
It's just... No. Why did I spend $40 on it? Why? If only I could get refunds for PC games. >_<
BioWare, read customer reviews. I'm going to hope and pray that this is somehow a joke, or EA's fault... But, dear god. Awakenings failed.

Ok so they mentioned it but really in all the time i'm in Amaranthine, why isn't he sending me soppy love letters? there should be at least *somethng* ala Kaidan/Ashley in Mass Effect 2. It's like hey wife go out kill darkspawn, im not gonig to check up on you because you're so bad ass, see you in a year or so.
Oh and IMO, I swear Anders reminds me sooooo much of AListair, he even looks like Cailan and he talks JUST like Alistair (imo) not the exact same voice but his tone and personality it's like AListair never left! THere are even a few flirty moments with him AND my approval with him is LOVE!?!?! what the hell lol. But now I can't talk to him anymore. I'm fine with the no romances but there so could have been something between him and the Player or god forbid -
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nathaniel Howe.
That was great!! My HNF is getting to know and like him. A chance to redeem his family's honor... good stuff!!

We were promised 6 new characters on the side of Oghren, whose dumb**** idea was it that someone who dies 30 min in counts? This is the worse thing that Bioware has ever done to their fanbase. If there was anyway to make them pay other than something unreasonable or not buying their games I would do it in a heart beat.
