Hi, I am still on my first playthrough with Origin, invested 80 hours so far and am continuing putting long hours into the game.  After installed patch 1.03, my game crashes often, especially during long battles.  Pickpocketing doesn't work and the loading time seems to have increased.  I would like to know when will the new patch be out to fix these problems?  Personally I would prefer to slow down my game progress if the new patch is in the horizon.  Or shall I give up hoping and finish the game through crashes and missed opportunity and hope that in my 2nd playthrough, things will work as intended?

There has been no statement whatsoever by bioware on an ETA for the next patch. There has been no acknowledgment that there are problems with patch 1.03.

If you are playing Origins and not Awakening, the best thing to do is reinstall the game, google (or use the search engine of your choice) for patch 1.02a and only patch up to that.

Ah, that is a pity. Cuz many players have encountered the same issue. For sure I now can't pickpocket generic items, except money and plot items.

This is getting frustrating as hell. I've already picked up Awakenings, but I'm not going to do anything with it until there's at least an acknowledgment of the issues with 1.03... mostly because finishing up the core game is incredibly slow going with the obnoxiously frequent crashes and the constant manual saves that provokes (after every combat, at least).

What makes this a real kick in the teeth is that the story, mechanics, and gameplay are great except for these crippling bugs.

I agree.  Up until before 1.03, my 80 hours of play time with DAO had been a blast.  Now, I am not sure if I shall get Awakening either.  I probably would.  But I would wait for a few months at least to see how the fixes are managed.

I'm gonna get it but I am not gonna do anything with it until after I've totally finished everything else. Then I'm gonna treat as a "fresh" game - hopefully minimising the chances of nirfing anything else...

As said, it is a real shame because everything else about the game is excellent but it does seem to be let down by some massive bug issues for many people...

Hmmm ... I wonder how is the investigating process by BioWare / EA. Usually how long would it take for them to rollout a fix to their patches, anyone know? I know there are some who have developed mods to fix the patch. But I still prefer an official patch from BioWare as I am not that tech savvy to apply the mods and etc.

I can play DA:O fine, began to crash w 1.03. When installing Awakening, nothing works, despite install went fine.

Havn't heard any word from Bioware/EA, seems EA does what they are best at, ignoring paying customers.

I'm sure that BioWare is doing the best they can to get either a v1.03a or v1.04 patch out as soon as possible. Doing the play-testing needed to replicate the most concerning bugs takes quite a few man-hours in order to find and fix whatever is glitched, bugged, or broken.

Slightly inaccurate.  BioWare have acknowledged they are monitoring the Awakening/1.03 bugs thread and that they are compiling information.  I think we can bet on at least getting 1-2 more patches, but what they might fix is a mystery.  I think crashes take top priority, followed by performance issues, and then gameplay bugs... quest and scripting bugs likely come last, and are least likely to be fixed, unfortunately.  The big issue is reproducing the bugs, though, because "I did this and this happened" is rarely enough to understand why a bug happens and how it can be fixed; if you have some obscure issue that is related to some old webcam driver from 1995 for example, well, don't expect BioWare to fix it for you.

I guess you're referring to this thread social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/1765654 , and to this very post -

Just want to let you guys know that we are going through this thread and
others like to compile your feedback and make sure these sorts of
things are entered into our bug database. Thanks a lot and keep it up!

Doesn't sound like acknowledgment to me. <_< Besides that thread discusses Awakening gameplay bugs. There has been no statement from Bioware addressing the crash-galore, that the patch 1.03 introduced, not a single post.

Hey, at least they're doing something about the bugs. Like I said, it takes a while for them to find and fix the more major bugs and glitches. But having the game crash is something that can't be completely avoided because of the sheer number of variables involved. Could be an undetected memory leak, but then again it may be the computer hardware on some level. That and different people experience game crashes at different rates. One person could have it crash every once-in-a-while while someone else could have it crash every 30 minutes or so.

Although I do agree with you that patches can cause game crashes; case in point, my copy of Fable 2 ran smooth before I downloaded the online co-op patch (which was freaking REQUIRED if I wanted any of the DLC). But once that was patched, my game would freeze so much that the only way I could stop it was install the game to my HDD.

I am not sure if it is the patch although it could be. I noticed with my Awakening expansion I can't even get the game started which makes me mad. I am still stuck at the first part waiting for 2nd clearing of rubble. My game is stuck in combat. I can't travel and I can't do anything. What is even more frustrating is that this is not the first time I have had problems with a Bioware Game. I had trouble getting Mass Effect 2 going for quite some time. Then I had troubles with Mass Effect 1.

I like the gameplay and story lines however the current technical problems that I have received over the years with them has been annoying. It almost makes me not want to play. If it wasn't for the gameplay and story line I wouldn't put up with it.

I have very little faith in any patch at this moment. Games been screwed up since release and the three "patches" already released have done NOTHING to fix Memory Leak or whatever the deal is. Seems pretty obvious they either don't know what the issue is or can't fix it without re-coding game.

I've been waiting since December 09 to finish this POS and I've just about give up hope. TPB will be handling my next BW game that I play.

I guess prior to patch 1.03, we may have memory leaking problems that gave us longer loading time. But prior to that, quite a few of us were able to run the game smoothly, with no crash. In a way, patch 1.03 makes things worse from a gaming experience. If I was BioWare, I would rollback some of these changes, do up the scripting errors that prevent us from stealing non-plot items, stats display, release it as patch 1.03a. And then once I found out how to improve loading time, I would follow up with 1.03b.

BioWare / EA should take a look at the user reviews in the Internet. Words are out that the game is not playable for some PC community. And I bet it is hurting their top line.

All of my save files randomly got corrupted for no reason during normal gameplay no mods used no glitches used. Poof almost done with Awakening and ported my DA:O character and all my files are now gone. This is on top of all the other insane issues this patch / expansion has created.

I want my money back, and I want my time back OR I want a ****ing fix for this NOW I paid good money and have nothing but an expensive piece of plastic collecting dust.

I used to be a HUGE Bioware fan I would brag about how it's the best company and the games are always top quality everyone should get them. What a huge mistake I have no doubt many will spread the word about what they have done here how they let us all down and abandoned us to suffer without even so much as a response.

i wouldn't go that far no i'm not trolling yes there is some issues with patch 1.03 and the new content for the game. But before you are quick to blame the game have you tried updating your drivers make sure all your windows updates are correct and up to date? I know when i had dragon age installed on fresh windows with no windows updates and the patch the game crashed like mad experienced everything you are going though now. But after updating all of windows especially the .net framework and service packs made all the issues go away for the most part i do get a random crash to desktop every once in awhile but i just been playing the game for sometimes upwards of 5 hours with not a single crash. For the guy that is getting save game corruption i would check to make sure you don't have a virus.

Raver, prior to 1.03, everything ran smoothly for me. Yes, my video driver is the most updated one. I do regular Windows updates too. I don't run mods in DAO, except the offical DLC. My computer runs beautifully for other games, including DAO at patch 1.02. If it is not 1.03, I don't know what gives.

Reinstalling OS is not an option for me. First, it is very time consuming and I am not tech savvy either. Second, I have licensed software that may not install again on fresh OS. That includes, believe it or not, Mass Effect Pinnacle Station that can't be redownloaded like the ME 2 DLC. And of course re-liciensing my thousands of music tracks from Nokia Music Store would be something I would do when I absolutely need to.

I could of course reinstall DAO, apply patch 1.02b, hope the DLCs and save games are still there. But I have no hope to play Awakening, have I?

or you could try to uninstall and reinstall doa as administrator install the expansion and the patch and config and run it at least once as that and let ur dlc download. To be honest its strange how some have major issues with the patch and others do not. You could also try running the game with the -single core and see if it clears up some of the issues i know its not a perma fix but if igets u playing a game that you paid hard earned cash for at least its a start.

It's not really strange at all, computer architecture and configurations are so varied that it can account for pretty much any of the issues. It does not entirely excuse the beta testers however, when you buy a release you expect it to work, you aren't paying to beta test the product for the company. The only place such a tactic works is in MMO's and their PTR's.

I know for one everything on my computer is up-to-date. The issue here is with the patch, nothing else. Even 1.02a and a fresh install of just DAO works like a charm, minus the known "progressively longer loading time" bug. The 2 times I've tried installing Awakening and 1.03 all my fps issues and crashing have resurfaced.

Indeed. I've finished Dragon Age twice with not a single crash. Soon as I patched to 1.03 and installed Awakening then stated a fresh Origins to port over, all teh way through my 48 hour playthrough of origins I get crash after crash after crash. Rediculous tbh, something Bioware really needs to look at. Think I might just play the "Warden from Orlais" new game with Awakening then reinstall just Origins to 1.02a and then leave Awakening alone until the crash issues have been resolved.

mostly this bugs and crashes are connected with installed user mods. the mods are not created properly and therefore a lot of id collisions will cause a lot of problems ;)

no.

the problems persist on numerous fresh installs with or without mods.
