With the use of saves Ive actually sided with Branka and Caridin without much problems to my party (approvals) but now I'm not sure which one ot keep and proceed with. I'm going to go with whichever helps the most in the final battle if there is an advantage of one or the other. So that is my question to those that have layed through...Do the dwarves or the golems help more in the final battle?

Golems are tough as nails and even though you only get 4 of them, they can hold off all the waves of enemies at the end (the fight with the archdemon) without any assistance. I prefer to use the Golems for the last fight only and then use the dwarves for the alienage fight.

Oh, so when you get the golems you also get the dwarves too? I though from somthing said in the dialog if the new king sent the golems to help you he wasn;t sending the dwarves. You get BOTH???

I'll have to check that out. Maybe it has something to do with the legion of the dead?

I've never used any army at all during the Denerim sequence, except for the dwarves on the Archdemon fight. They get the job done as defensive fighters long enough for your party to eviscerate the entire horde.

golems count as a seperate army from the dwarves
the legion of the dead soldiers comprise of half the dwarf army when u summon them

My last play through was also my first, and neither did I. Kind of cheesed the Alienage though. Before they could smash through the gates Morrigan more or less had them all dead except the general. If I'd of known the AD was as easy as it was, I'd have used an army to get in Fort Drakon. That was the most difficult battle for me.

Good to know. I kind of remembered seeing Kolgrim fighting the AD, even with the Redcliffe army being used.

If you have a chance to look around during the battle with the Archdemon, you'll see Kolgrim, Bann Eamon, and First Enchanter Irving up there with you. Maker bless them all.

I met up with Kolgrim after the assembly and the Legion of the Dead will be there to lend it's support. Still not sure about the dwarves tho. Anyone?

I prefer to use Dwarves in the ArchDemon fight for two reasons:
1 > Dwarves are spell-resistant and can withstand the AD's breath weapon
2 > Dwarves in packs are killers at mopping up darkspawn
Golems, NO. There are too few of them and they move too slow to catch the AD. Are they smart enough to use Boulder throw?? Doubt it. Too many darkspawn as well.
While they deal with the minions, my main party concentrates on the ArchDemon using melee when possible or else the ballista when it moves out of melee range. Meanwhile, Morrigan hits with long range magic, Wynne heals and Alistair chases the AD all over the place. My PC tries to move in for the final kill.

Kolgrim is the leader of the dragon Andraste cultists...
I prefer to go without allies at all against the archdemon, whatever army I bring will end practically wiped out...
I use the golems to clear the entrance to fort drakon and the royal palace, those two can be very tough, and their aoe no-FF attack is very convenient here.

I always use the mage army for the battle with the archdemon.
