i thought it was weird when i retained most of my inventory upon leaving the cell, and that the chest by the merchant was empty, but i never saw this coming. i got the rest of my party's stuff back, beat the dragons wearing junk i picked up, then realized it was over and that the door behind me was locked. i reloaded a save from before and retraced my steps, convinced i missed a chest with my stuff somewhere. i was pretty excited when i found that "puzzle" with the chest down in the fog, but then it had a few random things and i was just like, WTF!? that's when i googled to find threads like this and began cursing bioware...
installing the toolset now, hopefully i can work it out that way. thank god they had the decency to release that, at least, so we can do *something* to fix their mistakes instead of twiddle our thumbs waiting for a patch.

Has anything been done to fix this bug yet? I've tried three runs through the mines, each starting just before going in and getting knocked out. Tried some of the ideas here..never had the 4th experiment, and the chest was always empty. This time I guess I will try switching to garbage armor and see if that works. I've got this dang are memorized now.
I go in naked (all armor and gear in backpack) to bypass this bug. This way all your gear is in the chest. Has worked every time I've done it this way. You really do not need your gear until the final battle anyway.

It was pretty much a DUH moment when I realized the subjects can't give the gear back if no one had any on...

It might be elsewhere in this post, I skimmed through hoping they'd say a fix was coming. If you can't be bothered to use the toolset, and can use the scripting commands, there's a debug room (runscript zz_fab) that has just about every goody in the game along with a guy who can kick off the game quests. Some Origins equipment isn't there though, like Spellweaver and such.
now and it is exactly spellweaver which I miss the most (I'm a BattleMage)

Stop playing till they release a patch? Hahaha. Mark my words: You'll never play this game again.HansOlo wrote...

On my second playthough I experienced the bug where my Hero's armor did not come back. I went back to a save outside of the mines, unequipped my Key to the City, and did not experience the problem. This is odd because I'm pretty sure I had the exact same item equipped on my first time through, but I could be wrong

Oh and on another note, at first every time i tried to open a savegame with the toolset i got an out of memory error, which was fixed by installing a software called "ExplorerSuite" and allowing the dragonagetoolset.exe to handle more than 2gb of ram!
Again, Thank you!!

I just spent about an hour or 2 testing this, so it should work, but I claim no responsibility for epic fail-ness that may ensue should you do something really stupid.
Pre-Reqs:Fix:
- Unequip anything on your character you want to save.
- BACKUP THE ORIGINAL SAVE!!
- Open savegame.das in Toolset
- Navigate to SAVEGAME_AREALIST
- Under each number, look for TAG = "trp200ar_silverite_mine", for me it was #198.
- Under SAVEGAME_AREA_CREATURES, look for TEMPLATERESREF = "trp200cr_ghoul_pcwarrior" or "trp200cr_ghoul_pcrogue" or "trp200cr_ghoul_pcmage"
- Right-Click on SAVEGAME_EQUIPMENT_ITEMS and select "Copy"
- Scroll down to SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR > SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR_CHAR and delete the SAVEGAME_EQUIPMENT_ITEMS node.
- Right-click on the SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR_CHAR node and select "Paste"
- Save the file, close it and launch DA.
- Load the save game, and UNEQUIP everything! Your character will still look like everthing is equipped, but it you will only end up with 1 of each.
- Save the game again, close DA.
- Launch DA and load the save game 1 more time to verify everything is still there.

I didn't relevel my character before entering the mine but I did max out coercion to get the key form Seranni. It sucks having to repick all my spells but it only took a few minutes.

Note: I still didn't recover everything from my character, I was missing my rings, belt, and necklace, but I got all my weapons and armor back.
If you want all items back or run out of memory, read below!
First, if you want to find trp200ar_silverite_mine or trp200cr_ghoul_pc####, start browsing from the last entry and go back. If you do this right after the probem, the entries you seek are the last or among the last values in the list.
If you want your missing items, or if your character is still nekkid when loading your "fixed save", try this;
Instead of copying SAVEGAME_EQUIPMENT_ITEMS, open it. You see numbers, for me it was 0-6. These are your items. Rightclick+Copy every number one by one into;
SAVEGAME_PARTYLIST > SAVEGAME_BACKPACK
When you do, the entries will be renamed NEWFIELD#
That's ok. Copy all entries, save, load the save. Your missing items is now in your backpack. You must now manually equip/deequip every single item a couple of times, if you do not do this, chances are you will loose your item next time you save/load your game or you might screw up your savegame. If it looks like you have 2 out of an item you only had one of, it's still not fixed, equip/deequip until it seems to function normally.
If you have a 2h weapon or staff, I suggest trying to equip a regular working one as well, just to make sure the game "clean" your left hand slot.
I have tried this and opened the game in the toolset afterwards, and it seems to have fixed the entries again, so the NEWFIELD# are renamed into numbers equipped in SAVEGAME_EQUIPMENT_ITEMS.
If you run out of memory when opening the savegame in the toolset, check this out;
Toolset "Out of Memory" workaround
To find the CFF Explorer, go to the website and click "Download the Explorer Suite".
By the way, you do not rightclick "Click Here" in the program, you doubleclick.
That said, I believe it as the "Sash of Forbidden Secrets" that caused the bug for me. I have it equipped on my main character. It might be that the script doesn't recognize the items that didn't exist when Awakening was made, or include items from other modules.
I personally quicksaved after awhile while escaping, and the mines have a huge amount of autosave checkpoints, so naturally once I got to the last room and realized something was wrong, I had no saves to go back to. Doing what I said above helped me to get back all my lost items. I have continued to play for awhile and it seems to run stable.
I did try the additem script to give me the items with the console. You can open the values above and read the name of your items. However, this didn't work for me.

There are two places that you get gear from. Stuff you are wearing should spawn on the experimental subjects you find in the mine. The problem is the fourth experimental subject (the one wearing your gear) doesn't always show.
The rest of the gear will be in a chest near the qunari trader.
Certain items, such as Andruil's Blessing, Life Giver and Key to the City make the bug more likely to occur, so remove these when you enter the mine (they'll show up later in the chest, not on the subject).
After the cutscene you'll wake up in a cell. If you wake up naked (undies only), your game is bugged. Reload. If you wake up wearing some of your gear, your game is bugged. Reload. If you wake up wearing peasant clothing, like your companions, your game is fine - continue.

Then again, I think losing my equipment was probably one of the more interesting things that happened: having it stolen from me, why should I assume I would get it back? Instead I had to react and reorganize to an unexpected loss, which was much more interesting than simply getting back and using the same old equipment time and time again.
