I downloaded the patch from the this website, but when i installed it, my "Play" button became useless. I was unable to start the game. So I had to do a System Restore to get rid of the patch... anyone else have this issue?

I have the same problem...I think either we have to wait for patch 1.02 or reinstall the game without the patch...

What happen when you try to run from the DVD? Any error popping up, something?

I have a very slight problem with the Patch, I can no longer launch it from my Games Explorer Icon in Win7. I have to eject and reload the DVD for the auto-launcher to come on. I can play the game no problem but I usually keep the DVD in the drive at all times when I know I will be playing that game for days on end and just use the Icon, but now the launch icon doesn't work anymore. No big Deal but annoying nonetheless.

Create yourself a desktop icon pointing to "C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\DAOriginsLauncher.exe" and you'll be fine.

Hm, but what about players who are able to load up the game, but then cannot play because it says the "module could not be loaded?" I have no toolset, and no DLCs, with an updated VC+ from the given link.
Also, a question for anyone who has been able to run the game with the patch: were there any issues with NPC names returning to their "debug" states? Like, instead of "Howe's Men" it would be something like "npc_howe_pc?"
I loaded a save once I updated to patch 1.01 and suddenly all of the NPCs not in my party reverted to that style.
