She promised to have revenge of Rowland, and then she died immediately....this is what the meaning of dark fantasy, right? then why don't orghen die?(he just not respect the joining---the Grey warden), Howe(He said he better get hanging than become a great warden), lohgain(he have to drink the blood or else get himself killed by us or alistir) and/or anders(he'll die if not we allow him to join the wardens)...All these bad guys survived... while good guys, Daveth, and Mhairi died?
Dark fantasy..... good dies, bad survive??

**Spoiler Below**

She did keep her promise.  The boss fight at the end of of this little segment was the talking Darkspawn who killed Rowland.  She got her revenge.  Then she died *Facepalms* yea I was looking forward to having her too, I miss Alistair but my DW warrior is so dang gawd awful tough she's barely being damaged in the fights, she has never even made it to 50% though the boss fights still take a while for me to finish.  My mage is quite a bit more squishy.

I'm kind of surprised no one mentioned her red armor in this thread yet. I, too, just started playing and was confused as to if I rushed the recruit's joining, but especially after reading the developer's notes, it makes sense. I had no love for the character, either, and she did come off a little redshirty... err, redarmory to me, but her death obviously inspired a long thread about it and even I, who didn't care about the character to look up more info.

The point was made; good job again, Bioware.

i can remember my thoughts exactly durring the joining cutscene. I remember thinking after watching ohgren and anders pass it that "if this girl doesn't die im gona be pissed" and not because I didnt like her, she was cool. But having everyone survive the joining just breaks the lore of the game and trivializes how dangerous the joining really is.

I think a much better option would have been some way to save her. Maybe you have to pick certain dialogue options to get characters in the right/wrong frame of mind.. and that would influence which would survive.

They could have even made it such that choosing certain options to save one character would doom another. That would have been better than this. But yeah ideally I'd rather play the idyllic hero who saves everyone.

Yeah, some kind of way around it would have been great. Like, one of them would die depending on some variables. See, thats the thing that would have added more replay value to the expansion..

well, this sucks... here i put her in a bunch of cool gear and gave her sweet weapons from my import... well, good thing i've saved prior to that fight. just reload, strip her naked, and have at it! lol... although i think it's kinda lame that you get to upgrade her and she has a love/hate meter. kinda gives off the wrong idea.

No need to strip her before death.  Just like in the first game you get there gear upon death from the joining.

Bioware - Thank you for killing Mhairi quickly. I'm one of those players who like building their characters to become the great heroes they are supposed to be. I would not like it, at all, putting a bunch of work into someone who dies anyway. Everybody who says her death would have been more meaningful if she had died later in the game may like wasting their time on dead characters, BUT I DON'T! So thanks again to the team at Bioware, for all your hard work and not wasting my time.

[div id="complaining"]

The only thing that I wondered about in this was why everyone else survived.

Really, have the Grey Wardens tried to find out why certain people survive the Joining and others don't? Seems like they have had enough time to keep notes and try to see a pattern.

While I'm grousing, I don't know why no one's figured out a cure for darkspawn taint.

I realize that it would likely have been cost prohibitive from the payroll point of view, but I would've preferred true randomness. The joining can kill anyone at any time ... that sort of thing. It may have been impractical for several reasons, I guess, but it would've aligned well with the role playing aspect of the game.
