I am playing a rogue with two weapons.

I am having issues staying alive during, but I can only describe as, fire-fights.  The main issue is that hoards of monsters descend on my 4 players and they are damaged so quickly that I cannot respond fast enough to heal them. I even added an "action" option to all of my players so that they would drink a health potion in the event they are heath reached 10%. However, either the action is not being performed by the computer or by the time it is performed they are dead. All in all, the incessant fire-fights turn what is a promising game and to into a unpleasant slog.

I do have the mage and she is healing the party.  But as there is a
delay between casting a healing spell, she cannot respond to all the
party's damage.

Where can I find basic tips to make the combat more manageable?

Thanks

If you've got a mage and she's not set up for spirit healer, I would suggest that. I play as a spirit healer mage and have Anders set up as one as well. If you must, respec them and turn on cleansing aura. That'll keep you alive so long as your mage isn't killed.

If you don't want to go with cleansing aura, you can set her up for the regular heal ability and just the group heal one.

dw rogues are honestly the easiest to play, they're pretty fire and forget if u gear them up right.

first off, always lead with your tank; mobs are attracted to the first character they see unless they get damaged by your other characters. if you have a warrior tank, when u get a good bunch of them together, taunt. taunting generates approximately 300 (or 400 if the tank is a reaver) threat on each mob affected by it. that generally means you can do 300 (or 400) damage to it before it gets pulled off the tank. in that way, all the damage is being taken by the tank instead of by everyone in your party. earlier on in the game, this may be an issue but once your tank's gear and skills gets up there, it won't be.

still, if you have a mage in your party, it is easier to mitigate damage rather than heal through it, so use whatever crowd control spells you have, cone of cold is a favourite of many, as well as fireballing the mass of mobs before they reach your party. mass paralysis makes everything a cakewalk if you don't have to take the time to prevent the tank from dying

here's a tip - gear up your tank over the other characters first, even if it isn't your main character. it makes things a lot easier since he's the one going to be taking all the damage
