There's nothing wrong with me that what jerks my heartstrings dont jerk yours and vice-versa. I like drama and sudden twists as much as anyone. But many felt this particular situation could have been improved and made even more dramatic than a red-shirt moment.

i can't understand your people - i thought we want innovative, surprising, touching and emotional storys - but everytime some writer comes up with something that isnt 100% in line with everything that has been before and thats not completly predictable everybody starts crying?! i want storys that hit me out of the dark - thats the kind of story you will remember and not the one were you slayed 1500 orcs one after the other until lvl 100 - finish
Alot of it was cause it was cliched and pointless, what would have been innovative, as i posted in one of the threads from before, if it was random who died and not scripted. As it stands its falls in the same league as 1980 slasher film clich *if person has sex they die* and something i hope for in DA 2, players char takes joining and can randomly die from it, that is what you remember.
And the fact its called a red shirt moment, speaks for itself.

Ideally I would have liked it to have Mhairi a bit longer. Learn more about her, emotionally invest in her as a character before she was killed. As it was-my Cousland wasn't really that traumatized by it - and I was just annoyed that I have to put up with Oghren's fart jokes now since he's tanking.

have to disagree completly with one statement - if a random person could die - THIS would be absolutly not remarkable and i guarantee you would not remember it - you would simply do it over and over again until the one dies that you like the least - sorry thats no drama, thats nonsense
all i can recall is ff7 - everybody loved aeris - it was an amazing moment when she died - and this is one of the major reason pretty much every gamer worldwide knows that game

For people that don't remember - they are the two that die at the start of Origins (not saying you don't know, Nem.)

I'm glad you brought that up. I must be the only person in the world that disliked Final Fantasy 7. With that said, that was the single best point in the game to me. She was annoying and the only thing Sephiroth did in the game that made sense was to bump her off. Even when I played Crisis Core I was annoyed she was there. Hell, I WILL not watch the last five minutes of Final Fantasy: Advent Children because she's in it. I just didn't like her as a character. You're right though. It surely stuck with me.

lol i knew anyone would write that... how can you not like her shes the mooooost lovely person there ever was (lol seriously, did not like her either so.... but in that game i thought some of the enemies were all way cooler then the party members anyway BUT i think thats exactly one of the key points of a good story)

I mean, I can see the reasoning behind the decision, and well-played BioWare. It still pisses me off though.

And I have to admit, my character is usually the tank, so I was a bit upset that Mhairi was stealing my thunder. XD

You are so right. I loved Rufus and Turks so much in that game. I would pay to play a game to be a Turk.

Definitely a strike against DAOA, in my book. But, still a good game.
