I imported, it worked fine.  It gives you a list of your characters if you choose to import, and you just pick one.  You don't pick a specific save, just the character.

Ah god credit card details sorted, PS3 issues sorted (I couldn't download the Origins patch before for some reason) finally DOWNLOADING as we speak!! 3% though >_>

A bit mad at EA at the moment, for not allowing the EU PS3 users to get a disc version, and in the meantime expecting us to pay a 10€ premium for the privilege of downloading it on PSN as compared to most retail prices.. ( PSN: €39, most retailers sell the XB360/PC disc version for €29.. Also, same retailers sell the original DA:O för €39. )

Really guys, i've been playing 19 hours. And sudenly i'm finished WTF and that for a gigantic 39,99 euro's. it was nice to play Awakenings, but it is way to short. I expected it to last at least for another 20 or 30 hours. In all it was a wast of the money spend................
