Even though ALTTP (A Link to The Past) is amazing, it wasn't quite as magical and revolutionary as OOT (Ocarina of Time). OOT really gave me a special feeling in my stomach, it still does every time when I play this game.
OOT > ALTTP. That's just my opinion, no need to go spreading around. (Joker imitation)
PS: if any Zelda game is a remake of ALTTP, it's not OOT, it's The Twilight Princess. That game really did everything what ALTTP did, including a dark mirror world and a wizard that brought back Ganon(dorf) to life.
Ocarina of Time was far mor original in my opinion. The time-traveling thing to switch between young Link and adult Link was pretty genius for that time.
What I meant by similar wasn't those game conventions. Playing the Ocarina and hopping through time was unique to that game, obviously. Which reminds me, I loved some of the music in OoT. Anyway...
I meant that OoT felt like an old school Zelda game in many ways. Dungeons, puzzles, a pile of gadgets to play with, each that allowed you to progress further along the world map or in a dungeon, ect. It had bombs, fairies healing you, and so on. Other than ocarina playing, horse riding, and time travel aspect, it was pure Zelda. I felt A Link to the Past was the meatier game between the two. It felt more expansive and epic. OoT kinda had this "more of the same" feeling to it.
I didn't think OoT was *bad*, just inferior. I liked it enough to buy a soundtrack for it.

@Godak - I stand corrected then. That's often the case with younger folks though. No offense, but you'd be surprised how often I tell someone about an older game for a console or PC and they drop it because it's not pretty enough or some such.
@Himura - Phantasy Star rocked. It was waaaay ahead of its time. Plus, Alis Landale was one of the first female characters I ever got to play. That was a big deal for me at the time.
