Totaly agree with some people here, this game feels rushed. They are trying to milk it while its still hot. I guess EA is back to its "origins".
.
.
Why it feels rushed. 5 Hours in tot he game it feels like this was supose to be developed for another 2-3 month but they just cut the content out and let it lose.
.
.

1. If you are human noble and Romanced queen, her entry in to the at the start of the game is a joke, you ask your self the coutry side is full of dark spawn and we got queen running around without escort and wearing same thing she wore 6 month ago. At lest change her outfit and pretend you really worked on this game. This is a give away of how much time you spent working on this project.
.
.

2. They cut out deeper party development. No more conversations by the camp fire. Reason is budget and time. Why pay voice actors and can we can cut this part out to meet the release date. Deeper character development take more time.
.
.

3. First 2 of 3 locations you get to travel to on the world map are the size of random encounters you get in the Origins. I mean really? Intended to be that small? Or they cut half the side quests and story out again to meet the deadline. In fact some random areas are regenerated in Awakening, so you will see the same random encounter you have already seen. (same farmlands)
.
.

4. They cut DLC. This is not DA2 this is expansion DLC should not be cut unelss you rushed your product so fast that you did not have time to do basic programmin and connect dlc to expansion. PC community thanks to them already got a patch out and working. Why couldnt Bioware do the same to start with? Again time is the answer hare,  rush rush rush. Sorry if you the gamer spent money on dlc and now you lost one thing worth keeping - golem.
.
.

5 DLC skills/abilities/spells. "Inserc ability name here" ? I mean Really? You could at lest take it out and dont look foolinsh. How can you even get this past internal testing that is something in your face bug.
.
.

6. Console commands taken out. Why? Maybe cheating is bad and shorten the game to 3 hours. Not sure here really. Maybe they forgot.
.
.

7. Many npcs with conversation icons who have nothing to say but some random trash. Probably intended for quests or story related but had to be cut.
.
.

8. First 20 min in to the game I could already predict the outcome. Keep Defense from NWN2. Upgrade keep and soldiers and defend your keep. Very original I guess the creative thinking time was cut short so gota recycle ideas.
.
.

9. Ogren's loyalty reset to 50 % most of us had him at a 100% I guess that was hard to code in. Some not all actions carried over, most people lost romance or party members they loved. No explaination and no clue as to wtf happend there. Maybe we will see them in DA3 when you need to recycle more content. Again if they were brought back it would mean longer development. New guys mean we can make things easy simple and not as involved or deep.  The ending was already complicated cant cover all the outcomes with so little game development time.
.
.

10. For starters instead of giving people some random npc as an escort at the start of the game why not give them someone who they romanced. I guess that was the intent but it got cut and replaced by nameless henchman who gets killed off in first 15 min. Because we had no time to work on deeper story development.

11. Bugs from previous game are back.

12. Thank goodness for marketing, they can do a good job. And AD space payouts can give us the 9/10 score.
PS. This product comes from a company who bashed FF seriese for its lack of innovation. Sorry the only company here who lost track of innovation is BIOWARE. Not buying it anymore.

Hmm...well based on what you and seemingly alot of other people on the forums have said i think I'm gonna pass on awakening...at least until the price drops considerably.

Still waiting for my copy to arrive, but the feedback so far is not good judging from the forums.

This is quite disappointing, BioWare, what possessed you into thinking such a product of this cost/quality would be deemed acceptable?

Are you new to forums or something? The complaints, whines, flames and trolls all come out in droves after the release of a game or expansion. They far out number the threads that offer kudos because the majority of folks playing and enjoying the game are not motivated enough to post it.

It was the same for DA:O.

VanDraegon: That's not to say that every person who writes that they are less than happy are wrong. It's called feedback but majority like to call it out on trolling or whines.
I think I am more upset by people get bashed on here for expressing their opinions of it to be honest.

I really had a good time playing it for what it's worth. However it does feel a bit too "disconnected" i guess from the original game. Which surprises me considering how much effort they took with Mass Effect to make the continuity great.

As far as playing the game and having fun? It works. There are some quests I'm not a fan of, like getting custom armor made can be a horrid hassle. If you really liked DA:O you will like awakenings. If you are looking for things to criticize you will find them and probably hate it.

I think a lot might be worried to that if the choices really didn't make a difference in DA:A then will it ever in DA2? I do keep telling my self this is an expansion and not DA2 but the "disconnected" issue that a few have voiced now seems to be a downer for many who thought these decisions would have an impact from DA:O.

I hope it is not so for DA2

Sometimes I wonder, what problems does this world have? A NPC in a video game that wears the same clothes over a time?

I agree, that Awakening has some flaws in the storytelling. But making an elephant out of every flea (or bug) is not helping anything.

Well..I am thinking that we need to realize that things are changing with DA and are going to keep changing as time goes on.

DA2 will be yet another example of that I am thinking...more than likely it won't resemble Origins in any way, shape or form.

With the drastic cuts to the familiar things we knew,  just be aware what the end product might turn out like..come DA2.

Somewhere in the middle of this, all these changes and whatnot have to happen...and thats whats going on right now..even down to "streamlining" the dialogue.

Romance:   I encountered my "love interest" quite early on in this expansion,  and at least he wasn't standing there as a quest npc with an exclamation mark over his head...hehehe

There was a short cut-scene where I was acknowledged..a few things said..then we had to get back to business.

There are tons of quests to do from what I can see,  I'm four hours in..and I have ALOT to do.   But I decided to leave the fort and go explore Amaranthine itself..we'll see what my impressions of that are going to be.

I encountered the talking darkspawn...or one of them,  killed it..wasn't too hard, new abilities are pretty nice I have to say.

This bodes bad. I was so looking forward to the awakenings, but what I have heard so far makes it sound like a trashy add-on purely released to make a quick and easy profit.

I really hope that this is not the case, I will be finding out for myself very soon (fingers crossed)

I don't really think number 6 is a really valid reason. They took the ability to cheat out. Doesn't stop anyone from playing the game in the first place. Granted, I know it helps with some things when you're completely stuck, like for example on a quest which won't trigger normally, but it still doesn't really qualify as a reason as to why the game itself is soured/rushed or whatever.

Point number 8 can be said for Origins, or really, any other fantasy based game. Save the land from great evil. Recycled general plotline since dawn of man.

As for the other points, I really don't have an opinion on them. I'm liking it so far and sure, it has the slight rushed feeling but in my opinion (don't get offended; this is being said with no offense intended), you're being really harsh.

Judging a game based on forums responses isn't always the best way to go. Mass Effect 2 was an incredible game, but if you went off the forums you would think it was the worst thing to ever hit the gaming market.

I'm 6 hours into Awakening and still having a blast, very engaging story and I'm really enjoying the new locations.

Let me be more clear. These are the very things that are in your face facts. I think if you call this an expansion and you can load your Origins character there should be no disconnection what so ever. Things should be answered to some extent. The deeds you did the members you found and love you started. But when all this is cut, it should not be called expansion it should be a stand alone DLC. Yes you do encounter some old faces but the the lore the story the depth is not there. "-Hey we just slayed an army of dark spawn and saved the kingdom -But I see you got no time to chat. -Well nice to see you too." The fact is they went for profit on this one.

Hate it or love it, the game got its charm but a huge part of the game was cut. It was in mid development probably when Published said hey, we gota do this now. This is what you get when product is unfinished.

6.5/10

Really, you just need to get over yourself. Anyone that has this much time on their hands to construct a post this long about a video game has serious life issues.

Someone who does not add anything constructive to a forum has no life, it is also called trolling.

First off..an expansion is never as long or takes as long to play as the original campaign..I don't know what part is "rushed". I am four hours in..and am fascinated by some of the changes I have seen.

Keep in mind, that I was not agreeable to these changes prior to playing..but willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.

I like to try to be fair in what I say...I don't gripe unless I think there's a reason for it. I try to read up on things ..or read what others state, to get a better picture of the whole thing.

Personally I have no problems with this expansion, I like how they have delved more deeply into the feudal system..in this expansion. I like how you are more involved with nobles and politics. I like the Keep..its nice, fun..lots of rooms..lots of npcs around willing to give you quests.

Even though Oghren is not a favorite character, he seems to be more interesting this time around..interesting but..more drunk too. lol

There was one talking darkspawn I have met so far..which I killed..a bit too easy perhaps..going to change the difficulty setting up one, after this run-through.

The items/armour/weapons are all..already better by a few points than the stuff I brought with me. There is so much stuff I haven't taken the time to sit down and figure out whats good for what companion. But thats because I am currently in explore mode, will come back to the Keep after I have had a look around at the other places. :)

Atleast something carries over. hahaha.
But in all seriousness, yeh i'm quite disappointed with this "expansion" too.
