Out of curiosity, for all those peeps who whine about the quality of Awakening, compared to other games EXPANSION packs (caps were intended) how would you rate it ? I mean yea the game might feel rushed and yada yada but still when i think back about other games expansion packs (BG2, Icewind dale, fallout 3, oblivion etc) i dont think it's THAT bad like people make it out to be.

So far: better than Shadows of Urintide and Shivering Isle, not as good as Hordes of the Underdark or Throne of Bhaal. I never finished Icewind Dale.

As far as I know, the first xpac for Fallout 3 – Fallout: New Vegas – doesn’t come out until late fall/winter of this year.

Still waiting for my copy to arrive, but the feedback so far is not good judging from the forums.

This is quite disappointing, BioWare, what possessed you into thinking such a product of this cost/quality would be deemed acceptable?

Read reviews like IGN etc. for a more accurate, non bias representation of the game.  I will sum it up this way.  Every single game forum is nothing but complaints.  Look at World of Warcraft as an example.  Game has 12millon plus... so with the numbers they have been able to hold for this many years one would think the gamers are happy, right?  Nope, read the boards, it's like WOW is the worse game ever.  Every single class forum is a whine fest.

It is what it is.  The rest of the players enjoying Awakening are busy finding new ways to mod the game or busy playing  .....

Personally I came here after a good 4 plus hour run of Awakening, enjoying every minute ot if this far..taking a break.

I admit, I didn't come to the forums the first few weeks DAO was out. When I did, I was looking for help with an Alistair issue. What I found was page after page of women (and a few men) that were head over heels for Alistair. After more searching, I saw the same was true for many of the other characters. When the characters are that engaging, It's natural to want more. For many the relationships that were formed with the others in the party gave DAO a new dimension.

However, as has been stated before, this is an expansion.

I haven't installed it yet. I'm still enjoying another run through DAO. When I get to it, I'll try keep an open mind and hope that we see the same depth in DA2 that so many of us enjoyed in Origins.

I am currently doing my first mid game location. I think the quality is good. The forest setting compares well to Korcari Wilds and Brecillian Forest.

I like the layout and look of the level. Also the pacing of the combat is much better. It is not endless fights. Combat is interspersed with story, conversation and discovery.

So far the level is as good as a mid game location from DA:O.

I too am disappointed.... spent ages re-downloading content for DA-O till I have no problems playing DA-O offline, and when I can't get an X-box Live connection DAO-A tells me I have to redownload every thing again, but half of it doesn't carry over anyhow so what's the point.

They still don't have a simple delete option to delete save games/characters.

Auto-save saves so rarely it's hardly worth it. NWN standard was good IMO... every area transition unless it was within 15 minutes of the previous.

And I was about two hours in when a quest royally bent me over a table - my last save didn't help and the last auto-save was so far back it wasn't funny ... I figured screw it and have exited, deleted the saves and restarted it.

I was actually surprised but had a moment of thinking I'd return the game... but will see if Bioware pull their fingers out when they do an update - but will most likely be changing my gamertag motto.

2. They cut out deeper party development. No more conversations by the camp fire. Reason is budget and time. Why pay voice actors and can we can cut this part out to meet the release date. Deeper character development take more time.

What the hell?  I get plenty of converstion between the characters at Vigil's keep which is the new camp fire.  So I don't know what the hell you are talking about with number 2.

Oh and stop whining cause you can't cheat.  Screw the console command.  who gives a **** about it seriously?

I like this expansion so far. I like the pace and combat design . Origins felt cramped and many of the talents and spells felt not usable. Here everything feels useful. Combat is better organized. The idea for the new characters is strange and choice less I would say. I have no rogue. I killed Howe because that is the point and the other one is a midget which I ignore :( . I literally have a party of three right now. Thank the maker for advanced reanimation.

GTFO.  Final Fantasy games now have inovation?  Pffft bioware can back up the claim.  Final fantasy 7 was the best one and everything after that was about as ****ing lame as it gets.  Tell me?  they still doing that entire warp into combat crap in those games? lol  It has been over a decade of the same JRPG crap over and over.  They need to evolve their games.  While they are at that they can also stop making their women look like men and men look like women.

Yeah, because it's impossible for gamers to have any valid criticisms of a game they spend a lot of time with after spending a lot of money to buy.

I'm enjoying Awakening so far. Thats not to say I don't have my complaints.

I know its really strange but I got excited from watching the trailers because of the teeth. I play on the PS3 and the teeth in DAO where horrid. Was hoping that they'd be fixed to at least not look rotted. xD Oh well. Would be nice if it were fixed, but its not like Im expecting it.

Other than that my complaints are similar to a lot of folks on here. Feels rushed in places. Disappointed with how the Joining is handled in the first 30 minutes of the game.

Everything else is nice. Seems like there's a lot to do. Love the new abilities. I enjoy the way the conversations with companions are now, but I do wish that I'd be able to just shoot the breeze with them. We are comrades after all. Maybe we could see a mix of both those good things somewhere down the line?

Why are people without a single Bioware game registered to their account even posting stuff like "this sucks, I'm never buying another Bioware game"? :P

Still waiting on my copy to arrive since EU release date sucks.

Meh from reading about it (NOT playing) it just seems like it was made primarily with the idea in mind that your original character died and your playing a new one. Would go a long ways towards explaining why everything feels less connected when you play your old char. Overall I might pick it up when price goes down......dont consider it worth it atm if i lose my old band. As others have said its hard to spend tons of time connecting with characters then just have them end up becoming 2 line randoms.

Biowares biggest str is probably just making good companions so im surprised that they would not see a problem in ripping all of those companions away.

Its the main reason im in no rush to get ME2, even though it seems to do a much better job with continuity.

Ok for all the people who are reading this and saying how all the bad comments make you not want to buy this most people seem to actually like it. Some people say there are things that make it not enjoyable like BamBam11 but iI mean a lot of people seem to enjoy it.

My numbers do not match up because I didn't try to make them match up.

Bambam11 get over yourself please. (not off the original post a lot of your other post seemed this way to me) You act like your an amazing person who is never wrong and everyone else is dirt. They arn't just dirt and your not always right so let them say what they want just like people. I'm just going to say what I have learned while being on this forum for a long time and learned a good bit.

1. The whole rushed this is just crazy because it has been worked on for a long time as it had been posts and many old posts how they actually have been working on this expansion since March/ April of last year when they were originally going to put out the original games.

2. Yes your romances don't come back because it would have cost a large amount of money for the actors/ stories and since this is only an expansion it doesn't have nearlier as large of a budget or time limit as DA O had.

3. DLC was not put over because new stronger armor was there for you earlier in the game. (yes you payed for it and can still use it in Origins so it is still there)

4. Talking to your party members also won't be as developed because again budgets are set and they can't put as much money into that party of the expansion as they could and a full game. (even though i have heard people say it is still pretty developed.

5. The writers are going to be able to put every single story outcome into a very large well described ended for each person its just not possible again because of the budget given to them because again it's an expansion. There were so many outcomes that they can only barely bring you up.

Now don't get me wrong I want to have my story to be complete explained and my old romance back, or even a new romance, but I understand that this game is an expansion so they budget will be cut and if I want this in a game I will have to wait till DA 2.

I too won't be getting this, unless the price drops to below $25. As with anything else I buy, it is a question of price and value. Things like a small production budget are transparent to me. Why should I care if they had a large or small budget? All that matters to me is whether the product is value for money.

What is value is different for everyone, and for me, the lack of continuity is a huge minus. I won't enjoy being plucked out and torn from my companions, air-lifted, and dropped somewhre cut off from people important to the PC with the command "Go forth, and kill darkspawns!"

5 DLC skills/abilities/spells. "Inserc ability name here" ? I mean Really? You could at lest take it out and dont look foolinsh. How can you even get this past internal testing that is something in your face bug.

The Power of Blood thing is just strange. I just figured they wouldn't transfer, everything else from WK didn't.

Then they said it would. Well, it did ... but didn't. They're there but not really "there".

6. Console commands taken out. Why? Maybe cheating is bad and shorten the game to 3 hours. Not sure here really. Maybe they forgot.

It's not clear the console is gone. Press the tilde key, it still halts the game. Obviously it's waiting for commands.

Now BTW all the console commands may have changed. That happens with many games that receive expacs. Thus maybe instead of typing "zz_addxp 50" to add 50 XP, you need to type "awaken_addxp 50". This remains for someone to document.

I'm not sure it's broken. I am sure all the old Origins codes don't work. I've tried most. Of course, in most games, you can actually see what you're typing into the console; here it's "invisible" which makes you more unsure.

Most strange: I have mods that give you additional console commands and mods do appear to be working but those mod-console commands are not.

I guess that was the intent but it got cut and replaced by nameless henchman who gets killed off in first 15 min.

What fooled everybody is she had an approval bar. That made her different from previous "redshirts". Maybe that was intentional. (No names as we're in spoiler-free zone but yes we all know.)

Played through Origins seven times....I will try this expansion once more with a "new" character and be done with it. Not trying to upset the fanboys and girls, but I would feel a lot better about this expansion if I had caught it on sale :-)

I think the expansion was pretty decent, the only thing that really annoyed me was that making runes is a pain in the arse since each rune takes 1 inventory which gets redicioulous when you consider you need to buy 32 runes to make a paragon rune and it gets even worse when you realize you have to zone in and out of the keep because your crafter is not your main character and you can't access the skills of non-main characters inside the keep (where the rune seller is). Couldn't they just have put the rune seller outside with the blacksmith >.<

The other complaint would be that even though it was really fun, the expansion clocked in at 11 hours for me where the main campaign clocked in at 50, since the expansion was roughly half the price of the main game that means I got roughly twice the gametime per dollar for the maingame,(50/2/11 = 2.27) which is wierd because in the maingame I paid for engine+story and for the expansion it was just story, you'd expect a higher value : p

That makes me agree with the people that say it was rushed, to some extent it feels like they're testing us to see how much money they can extract with as little content as possible.

There were some good points posted.. my only concern about it was the price tag. $40 seems too pricey for an expansion that is about 1/4th of the original game. I'll definitely get it when it drops to $30 or below, but until then there are much better games to spend money on.

What is this "full game price" talk anyway? My Steam version cost 30 € whereas the main game cost 50 €, i paid the same for Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark, if memory serves (nowadays it's a sizable 'if', though ^_^).

Is it more expensive, or the main game cheaper, elsewhere?

nornally i would post (or attempt to post) a logical arguement/tangent, but since I am frankly enjoying the expanion, and feel lazy I will instead post this

No this is right on, this is as far as YOUR logic goes. Maybe in the future we will use pictures to communicate. You know to CUT time and logic.

The point is if you start fresh this a great game, but if you expect something deep and related to the first game you are wrong.

Keep telling your self its a great game and maybe it should be played in some special way and looked at as expension or big dlc. But the fact is you jsut telling your self it is what it is not. And it is not an Expansion.

It is an good attempt at hit and run and they pulled it off. Did I enjoy it, YES did I hate the fact they cut stuff out YES. Would I pay 40 $ if I knew it is what it is. NO

I simply listed the things that made this game bad. To be honest the only things that make it good are well new origin story that is all. If you playing fresh you can look past and ignore everything you did in the original game. What happend here is.

This is just one of the origins that was supose to be used for  the expansion if you character died. If your character died in the original game this is the origin you get in the expansion.

a little hostile eh ? chill with the intellegence insult okey ?   let me give a long explaination then

first off I posted that for a few reasions:

1. these thread are constantly being written with the same exact reasion why someone doesn't like it at times it seems that all people do is complain, which isn't ture

2. this was very likely not cut content,  and even if it was it would have taken a long time to integrate into the main game, it probably would have still been a seperate dis and people would  still be complaining only this time about how long they had  to wait.

2a. why is it the everytime new content is released people scream "OMG they cut this content so they could milk it and make off of it" or "EA is EVIL and taking content out !!", this is  largely, but not always untrue and in DAO's case this accusation is quite likely to be false since DAO was done last spring but was held until the console port were complet, giving  Bioware plenty of time to finish DLC content and work on an expansion.

3.  how you play and how  I play is probably quite diffrent I personally don't use tanks, I like playing as shapeshifters etc, you may  disagree, and frankly to each his/her own.

4. if you don't like the game fair enough, i am enjoying  is it a bit overpriced yeah, but lucky for me I sold a few games at gamstop, had aboutenough to buy the game ,thanks to a 20 percent discount  on buying newgames for trade-ins  on the same day, to NOT have to spend a single doller ( I am normally a cheap bastard).

that's all if you wis to discuss more the message  okey :)

once it drops around $20, i'll give a it go, but based off all the things i read and saw on youtube, def is a different than dao, more acknowledgement of orgins choices is a deciding factor for me, a 10 sec cameo from my "husband" and not one person calling me queen isn't my idea of an acknowledgement, almost seems like the dev team is doing a profitable test run of ideas that some wanted to do in orgins, but perhaps majority of the team didn't agree?? so they wanted to see how it would work out for awakenings, hence the dev teams request for feedback in some of thier post, i'll pass on being a guinea pig for now, $40 for a test drive isn't my idea of bang for my buck, considering all the great games coming out in the fall,i'll just wait....spend $40 on fable 3 or fallout or natal....
