All in all, small issues aside, I am enjoying myself , I'm really feeling nothing for the new characters you've thrown at us (Anders started out neat, but quickly fell off my "Care-O-Meter"....and Nathaniel? About as enjoyable as Jabba the Hut in spandex). Hopefully my opinion of the party members changes as things gets further in.

It's only 10$ short of the average cost of a full game. I would assume that's why they are using that comparison.ToJKa1 wrote...
What is this "full game price" talk anyway? My Steam version cost 30 € whereas the main game cost 50 €, i paid the same for Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark, if memory serves (nowadays it's a sizable 'if', though).
Is it more expensive, or the main game cheaper, elsewhere?

If we want developers to stop treating their games as disposable, one - play experiences, then we need to stop playing games that were not designed to be one - play experiences as such. DA is not intended to be whipped through like Halo. It's why turned based strategy and RPG games in general are the ones everyone still is playing today from 10 + years ago. Original Fallout and CIV anyone?
Does anyone have the ability to stick to anything for more than 5 minutes in the world today?
Given the way DA is designed, both the original and the expansion are some of the best values in gaming today, dollar for dollar.

I do get the feeling of it being rushed and poorly executed. There is a reason why it's getting mediocre scores because the games goes feel mediocrity developed. Just throw some bones at us and get our money. 20 dollars maybe but 40? Give me a break...
I'm just glad it was my friend and not me that was suckered, they almost go me though.

Some of you that are saying it's terrific seem very easy to please. I don't hate the game but from playing it over at a friend's house there are a ton of flaws not worthy of a 40 dollar price tag.

I can really only see the outragous price being the only real sticking point. 40 bucks is far too much for what you get.
In the UK it's between £15 and £25 depending on the version and where you buy it which is normal for an expansion pack. Sunsequently I'm perfectly happy with it.

The point being, it would not surprise me in the slightest if the forums for those games were full of complaining either. It happens with every single game. It happened with Mass Effect 2 and that for me was a good game. They worked out a lot of the issues from the first one. (And I believe people even complain about free dlc with that game...? Though they really shouldn't count.)
So honestly, don't let what you hear on these forums sway you from buying the game if you want it. Draw your own conclusions without relying on forums.
Edit: As for this game being a expansion or not, it's a fact the game's an expansion. I don't really know how you can argue the point. DLC these days lasts how long exactly? A few hours at the most. This lasts for anything between 12 - 30 hours from what I hear. That is substantially more than any DLC and longer than a lot of games, though sure, some genres shouldn't be held to the same standards in terms of length and they rely on multiplayer etc. Plus, does BioWare market the game as an expansion or not? They market it as an expansion, so you shouldn't need anything more than that to know it's an expansion. An expansion adds content basically and alongside new areas/story, it offers up a few more gameplay elements etc., but not enough to make a sequel. The game adds a new level cap, extra abilities etc. so I think it does more than enough to qualify. You have to look at other expansion like Shadows of Undrentide, Hordes of the Underdark, Throne of Baal and all of the rest to know why this is an expansion and not a typical DLC. I'm not going to get into quality though in terms of comparing Awakening to those.
One thing I can understand complaining about though is the price. Still, $40 - $60 (whatever the price is, not in the US here) is the same price as some full games which you may not get as much game time out of. So, I'd still say in terms of gameplay time with the content, it's worth it. Not to mention the new specialisations etc. to play around with. I haven't played it yet though. Getting it tommorrow. I just know it's £15 where I've ordered my game from in the UK though I get it for £12.50 with using my points card.

9. Ogren's loyalty reset to 50 %
I admit, I was surprised to see it reset as well... though I'm not sure how they would even code this with the character import. But I was like, "Oghren? I thought we were cool..."

I really had a good time playing it for what it's worth. However it does feel a bit too "disconnected" i guess from the original game. Which surprises me considering how much effort they took with Mass Effect to make the continuity great.
As far as playing the game and having fun? It works. There are some quests I'm not a fan of, like getting custom armor made can be a horrid hassle. If you really liked DA:O you will like awakenings. If you are looking for things to criticize you will find them and probably hate it.
Sorry, that underlined part is a crock of ****. I loved DA:O and rushed out to buy it in the stores on Monday. I was excited to play it, and continue my adventures. So I go to import my character, and BAM! I'm in my friggin' underwear! Now, I've read all the official explanations about DLC and the Ultimate Sacrifice ending, and whatnot, but this was a terrible first impression to make. I suppose if I knew that was the case, then I wpuldn't have been let down. Actually, last week someone asked in these forums "will I be naked if I was wearing WK armor?" The devs didn't responds at all, but the positive responses were just "Oh I'm sure they'll have some transition scene to deal with it." Well it turns out they didn't and it looked completely ridiculous. That immediately killed my joy and I started to question whether I made the right purchase. I know there's more to the game than the DLC, but most consumers aren't going to read these forums before they go buy it, and they are going to get that really awful first impression I did.

Out of curiosity, for all those peeps who whine about the quality of Awakening, compared to other games EXPANSION packs (caps were intended) how would you rate it ? I mean yea the game might feel rushed and yada yada but still when i think back about other games expansion packs (BG2, Icewind dale, fallout 3, oblivion etc) i dont think it's THAT bad like people make it out to be.
So far: better than Shadows of Urintide and Shivering Isle, not as good as Hordes of the Underdark or Throne of Bhaal. I never finished Icewind Dale.
As far as I know, the first xpac for Fallout 3 – Fallout: New Vegas – doesn’t come out until late fall/winter of this year.
NWN and its expansions were a completely different animal, since that sold more due its toolset than the actual campaign. SoU's campaign was better than the NWN OC.
