So, I try to do the nice thing and let this guy live.  You know, the whole "son shouldn't suffer for the sins of the father" and all that.. And MAN I have been regreting it ever since!  Everytime this man opens his emo mouth to complain about how his family is being mistreated, I wish that had let him swing earlier in the game.  Now, I'm just hoping that he tries something stupid so that I can cut his ****ing head off.  LOL.

Surprisingly, I completely turned around. I started out Insulting him and the rest of the Howes and then at one time I was just - "Awww! Nate's actually trying to be nice to me!", so I gave him his family bow, called his father a jackass (to which he agreed), and we went and killed some Darkspawn. Good times...

I agree, I also regret letting him live. My second playthrough is with a Cousland, and I'm already prepping the rope for the hanging. I'm also considering not allowing Velanna in my next playthrough either, she is a grade A psycho B*tch.

Oddly enough, I was fair and honest with him and already have him at moderate cunning. Seriously, he is in a situation any of us would be ****ing about and we would probably **** harder. Cut the kid some slack. He had a false view of his father and is being eased into the truth. As for his sister, eh, I said I was standing right there and got a good laugh from her reaction.



They talked and he learned the truth, so far, he just has to deal with it and let it grow on him. You know, like any human would have to...



Anders is a smartass, Oghren is a hilarious drunk, Howe is a guy coming to grips with a new paradigm vastly different from his own. Or you could just say emo kid and whitewash a complex character, I suppose that works too.



Though by all means, hang a lockpicker. XD

Maybe you only get the bad side of Nate if you are a HN? Because he's actually pretty reasonable towards my dwarf and seems to blame himself for all the stuff his dad did. His sister was rather nice too, she didn't say anything negative to me or the rest of the party, she just told Nate that his father was to blame for their situation and that there's no reason for him to be mad at everyone else for it.

I'm playing a Cousland and thus far Nathaniel is vying with Anders for my favorite. And did you meet a different Delilah than I did??

I'm with Addai67. I'm not too far in but he really seems rather reasonable.



I did love how there was a sly conversation option when you talk to him I think regarding Zevran.

I'm playing a HN and I think that Nathaniel is awesome. Delilah was also surprisingly cool.

Nathaniel relents really quickly in the beginning and I am racking up approval with him left and right from game decisions. I think I've gotten his third skill bonus and I'm only at two with Anders and one with Oghren.

Like the 4 people above me I've had no problem with Nathaniel. He was at first upset but after talking to his sister who didn't say anything negative, even made the remark about her father being to blame, he's really been very nice. I'm actually liking Nathaniel. Makes me wonder if he's the 1 that Rendon Howe was talking about when you first meet him in the beginning of HNF in Origins. There where 2 sons that's mentioned in this game but 1 died.

That's Thomas, and I figure he must be the one who's referred to as dying in battle.  Which is a little odd, since he was supposed to be "quite a bit younger" than your PC.

As a Cousland, I agree with the OP -- I tried to not let Nate suffer for his father's sin, so I told him and my Seneschal at the prison that I wanted to let Nate work for his freedom.



He basically spit in my face and asked me if I wanted to have traveling companions that wanted to kill me. He made it pretty damn clear if I traveled with him he would try to kill me. I figured it was macho talk, so I asked him if he thought it would be worse to help me than to stay in prison, and he told me YES!



So I said, FINE! Hang him if he wants it so bad, to which he replied, "Do your worst." I walked out, feeling as a Cousland there is really no way around killing him. Did any Couslands recruit him?

I'd planned on recruiting him even before starting the game (if nothing else, for the potentiial for friction), but was pleasantly surprised with how he's developed thus far.

I started to be nice to the twit. Even as a Couseland, was going to conscript him into the Wardens, until he said he would rather hang.... so I obliged him.

I came in thinking I'd probably kill him eventually.



He ended up being my favorite character and also had the best epilogue in my first game.

My HNF loves Nathaniel so far! Im not that far in yet, but he already has the highest approval of all  .
