He didn't seem so emo to me. In his conversations with the other party members, he actually seemed fairly positive.

I liked him. I recruited him at first praying the joining might kill him though. But his father played him, I'd say something else but it's un-ladylike. He became friends with my warden. Human noble Queen....

lets not forget, regardless of his personal situations... Howe is simply mass destruction with a bow.
In my first play through, I level him as ass/rang archer, and he hits for 656. If nightmare wasn't easy-mode, his damage would be even MORE valuable.
