I'm trying to install DAO through EA's Download Manager.  The game downloaded fine, but when I click Install, a message pops up saying that "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 cannot be installed on this version of the operating system.  You must install Windows 2000 SP4 or later, and rerun setup."

I have Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3, so I'm not understanding the "later" part.  I also downloaded Framework 2.0 SP2  independently, and that worked fine, although it didn't solve the issue.  My computer is a bootcamped Mac, but the Windows portion is running fine as Windows.

Please help if you can!

Thanks.

Sorry no one has replied to this :( I am having the same problem, however, on a Windows 7 Professional 64 bit OS.

What version of .NET are you trying to install? The latest version is 4.0.  It installed fine for me on Windows 7 32 bit, Home Edition.

Edit: newer versions are backwards-compatible, btw.

My .Net framework package is 3.5, the one that base installs upon installing Win 7 64 bit Pro. They should be backwards compatible, however, I get the error message during installation while it tries to initialize the .Net 2.0 framework during the install wrapper. Something to the effect of "This 2.0 .Net is incompatible with this version."

I was doing a little Googling around, and it sounds like some applications that use the .Net 2.0 framework are highly specific and won't pass compatibility checks if you're using a higher version of the framework. You're doing a digital install, like the original poster was, right? My only suggestion is to run the EA installer in compatibility mode for XP Service Pack 2, and let it run with full administrator privileges. Apparently, for the retail version, if you don't install in compatibility mode, it doesn't work properly on Windows 7, so I'm assuming the digital version is similar.

I figured it out. This is a new pc build, and was running DA in compatibility mode. It was trying to install .net 2.0 under the compatibility settings, however, couldn't because it wasn't compatible with the current OS. I figured it out, but thank you for responding!

This was not a digital download, it was the retail version of both games.
